  1. He had a 'gentlemans agreement' with Uncle Jack that he would stay on Nothing on paper though
  2. I think you mean '96. Was in the WalkerSteel for that game, remember the goal vividly... absolute cracker I think we've been absoultely spoiled for strikers in the last 15 years or so- Shearer, Sutton, Gallacher, Garner, Speedie, Jansen My votes go to: Shearer- the best striker I have seen in the flesh. He was so good that on the rare occasion when he missed you were absolutely flabberghasted Gallacher- because he provided so many memorable moments: goals on his debut (also Graeme Le Saux's debut if I remember rightly) in a 4-1 win against Liverpool at Ewood- such a good game that I didn't mind getting completely soaked at the bottom of the old Nuttall St stand; flicking the ball past Schmeichel in the opening minutes at Old Trafford; smacking one over Seaman from about 30 yards at Highbury, etc etc Two more reasons why I vote Gallacher: He's Scottish! He always gave his all and played with a smile on his face
  3. Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is a Rovers win. (If that's asking too much a night with a Swedish air-hostess will suffice) I've been a good boy all year so you owe me this one! 3-2 to Rovers
  4. 1 Ball-winning defensive midfielder (allowing Bazza and Thommo to get forward, be more creative and maybe get more goals from midfield). 2 We could do with a new player in each area of defence: backup for Lucas; a new left-back (unlikely given how long we've been trying to get the right man for the job); and a new central defender just to make sure Amo is far enough down the pecking order for him not to get another chance. Erm, I'll pick left-back, but only if we can finally find one of the required quality
  5. Burnley v Liverpool!!! C'mon Steven Gerrard and pals!
  6. We learned a few things today (if we didn't already know them): 1 Every player giving 100% for 90 minutes (as I thought they did today) is not enough- if the opposition matches your commitment but plays better quality football they will win 2 We don't have the quality in terms of creation- despite our possession we created few chances- Spurs looked much more likely to score from the 1st minute 3 We need to but a defender in the transfer window 4 Spurs aren't quite as bad as we thought probably stating the obvious but hey..
  7. From the Beeb: haven't seen anybody with this ^ prediction yet. I'll say Rovers 4 - 2 Spurs, from 2-1 down
  8. Great all-round performance. We were discussing after the game who was our man-of-the-match, and agreed that there were no stand-out contenders. Just goes to show what a fantastic TEAM effort it was. By the way, it seemed like half of Blackburn was in the pub in Edinburgh we watched it in. Strange
  9. Not sure about anybody else, but I think we should move on from this. The race issue is something that will provoke endless debate, and it was right it should be discussed on this MB within the context of the Yorke incident. However, the longer this discussion goes on, the more antagonistic it seems to be getting. Let's get back to talking about the ROVERS!
  10. still feeling mindlessly optimistic, despite my 3-0 prediction for the Brum game failing to materialise: 2-0 Rovers, Dickov and Thompson the scorers A minute silence before the game to mourn the loss of any sense of proportion by the media. Rovers commended in the tabloids for getting rid of their racist element practically overnight, yes that's right all two of them, though one of the papers breaks ranks by stating that one Rovers fan 'looked at Andy Cole in an odd way'
  11. Anybody got a link to a pic?? It wasn't in today's Scottish Sun and I haven't seen it on the telly Found a link: here note the name of the first reporter!
  12. Anybody got a link to a pic?? It wasn't in today's Scottish Sun and I haven't seen it on the telly
  13. That'll be the fooled-into-buying-a-player-because-of-past-glories-but-hes-now-a-lazy-workshy-useless-sod cup will it?
  14. very true. However, Emo and Reid have been playing infinitely better in an attacking sense since Hughes came along. It's so refreshing to see our wide players (esp. Emo) running at defenders and getting to the bye-line. Souness doesn't seem to like wingers and seemed to stifle their confidence. Just look at Newcastle's performance against ManUre the other week- they were constantly trying to play it through the middle and never looked like succeeding other than Shearer's goal
  15. ofcourse I have done things I regret when a wee bit under the influence, but if you're suggesting that disqualifies me from criticising racists then I disagree.
  16. have to disagree with her on that one. Respect to her for not stirring it up though banned for life? Have you never done anything that you regret later after having a few pints and in the heat of the moment? Or does your screenname simply refer to mineral water? Jesus says in the bible 'let ye who is without sin cast the first stone'. Still feel like throwing a few millionpints? my screenname does refer to my penchant for the odd 'refreshment' here and there, but no matter what state of inebriation I have been in I have never racially abused anybody- it's completely unacceptable, and not only should these idiots be banned for life, there's an argument to say that racial abuse should be met with a police charge and court appearance. Anybody who spouts this abuse can't hide behind the excuse that 'they've sunk a few pints'- it's likely that the drink has just loosened the tongue and they're stating what they really feel. By the way <edit oops> TND, the logical consequence of your post would be that nobody ever criticises anybody, which would make this MessageBoard rather dull!
  17. of course, if the story is put in proportion less people will watch the show. Common sense is irrelevant as far as most trash-media people are concerned
  18. have to disagree with her on that one. Respect to her for not stirring it up though
  19. Simply not true. Sensationalist journalism that pays no attention to the facts
  20. Flair player? Yorke????? You must be joking. Yorke was a lazy good-for-nothing SOAB for Rovers, and deserves all of the non-racial abuse he got and more. If it was two people giving him racial abuse, then that is 2 too many and they should be banned for life, but it's getting totally blown out of proportion. The actions of 2 idiots should not tarnish the good reputation of the Rovers fans
  21. 3-0 to Rovers, Dickov & Stead(2) you should try this stuff I'm smoking!
  22. nope, been thinking for the last couple of minutes, but can't remember him. Goalie was he?
