Just came across the full replay of the League Cup Final from 2002 on YouTube. Wasn't aware it was online, and thought others might want to watch it too. What a team we had then, and such happier times! A few things came to mind as I watched: How good was Brad. Those 3 saves from Ferdinand were just a testament to his quality. We took 30,000. The commentators mentioned it being a third of the town, and joked about the last person leaving switching the lights off. A town really behind their club! The numbers weren't actually that surprising though, considering we averaged 25k as late as 2011. How old were the Spurs forward line! Sherwood was the spring chicken at 33, with Poyet(34), Ferdinand(35) and Sheringham at 36. Age must have played a factor as the game progressed, and we weren't overly tested after Cole scored. All were trumped though by (Wales manager) Mark Hughes at 38. How did he last 90 mins! What a player Matt Jansen was. Eriksson has a lot to answer for wasting our golden generation, but taking Keown over Matty in 2002 was arguably his biggest crime! Watching it reminds me of the Wigan debate when they were relegated and won the cup, and whether they would have preferred staying up. In hindsight, I would side with winning the cup for the memories! I'm sure the club will commemorate it, and let's hope it's a double celebration as we clinch promotion this year. Would love to hear others' memories of the day.

Swansea Fulham postponed. Potential to be in the top 2(or even 1st if Cardiff do us a favour) come Sunday 4pm. Good to see Huddersfield are playing tonight, away at Forest. A days less rest and a couple of hours down the M1 can only help us.

Things are really falling into place for us. Still, no room for complacency as 23rd can absolutely beat 3rd in this division. Bottom (although they'd be mid-table without deductions) just beat 4th.

Talking of bullets, Obafemi comes to mind. Scored once all season for Swansea! What effect might he have had on Diaz's returns too?
-
West Brom losing at Derby thanks to a Kipre-Johnstone mix-up, with Kazim (surprised he's still playing-thought he was retired!) scoring. Wasn't solely to blame but we did dodge a bullet with Kipre!

Buckley and Travis have been different gravy! Both home grown too. -
With West Brom drawing yesterday and Bournemouth losing today, a victory today would take us 3rd. We'd be 7 ahead of 5th, and a point off 2nd. We've overcome the nosebleed territory of 7th from previous seasons, so let's hope we can go from strength to strength. Come on Rovers! Please don't let us down

Feel Brero could have done better earlier for a possible 1 on 1, but that Solanke 1 on 1 should have been finished. Well done Ainsley! -
The one note of caution I'd sound is the effect a new player can have on the team at times. Things are working now and they are probably best left as is. I remember when Gillespie was coming through at Newcastle and ripping teams apart, taking Newcastle top. They then signed Asprilla, and although he did well overall, they had to accommodate him in the team and, with Gillespie the main loser, this ultimately cost them the league.

Come on! Best form in the league at the moment! We really don't have too much to fear from Bournemouth. Let's hope Tony doesn't overthink it!

I know we should just be grateful at being in the playoffs but looking forward, is automatic promotion something we should be looking at? Fulham and Bournemouth are playing each other next. Win against PNE and the game against Bournemouth becomes a real 6 pointer. Win that and we'd be 3 points behind. Imagine saying that 3 weeks ago, when we were 14 points behind and had just been thrashed 7-0!

Oh no, what have I done!

As long as the core of Kam, Lenighan/Ayala, Trav, Rothwell, Buckley and Breo stay fit!

What a week. Cardiff's equaliser actually puts us back in the play-offs! -
Up to 6th in a really poor (thus competitive?) Championship this year, even taking into account the 'anyone being able to beat anyone in this division' mantra. Real pity about us not being able to get our house in order. Promotion is there for the taking, but persevering with Mowbray and the failure to sign an Armstrong replacement will really come to haunt us down the line.

Thought Kaminski and Travis were very good today, and the rest of the defence pretty good. Ayala has made a big difference to our solidity. Hopefully he can remain injury-free. Attacking-wise, we were pretty poor. Really felt Buckley was poor in terms of progression, and was thinking he'd be the first off. Surprised he played the full 90. Rothwell didn't seem his usual self and the front 3 worked hard but that's about it (and Diaz should have scored!). Poveda and Clarkson don't seem to be any great shakes. The way many of these loan deals work is there is some sort of financial penalty if they don't play when fit. Such a pity because Butterworth really deserved to play a part today. I really hope the loanees having to play does not stifle our talent.

lol...we can dream! Even the optimist in me can't help but feel that's a bit of a stretch

Its always been the case. I remember he only gave Travis, amongst others, a chance when forced to due to injuries, etc. -

,Ever since the owners/Maggott didn't pop Mowbray before the season started, it was a waste of a year. Its probably for the best that Mowbay hasn't had the opportunity to squander the Armstrong money. A reset with a new manager if(when?) Mowbray achieves lower mid-table mediocrity again is probably the only silver lining we can hope for. If, despite Mowbray, the team do however produce something unexpected, it'll be a bonus and we can enjoy. -

Shocker! Play a striker in the centre and he scores. What a belter too! -

A couple of good prospects bought relatively cheap, supplemented by a couple of loans, and we'd be happy. The current direction is just destroying the future of the club. And to think we spent £12M (wasted?, especially if Diaz leaves on a free) just a couple of seasons ago. If only Tony and his crew had been slightly more prudent then, we could have taken a more measured approach now.
