  1. Interesting quote from Smith last season HERE (about 1/3 to 1/2 way down). Don't mind him wanting to leave, just don't like the 2-faced aspect of it. Funny that Dafoe (if I remember correctly) does the same thing last year and gets villified about how he isn't a team player, is a no good mercenary, etc. etc. Yet Smith is "Mr. Loyalty." Love the front page picture on F365 of him crying. Leeds has also turned down 5.5 mil, saying he's worth 10, yet he has a worse strike rate than Heskey (SEE HERE).
  2. I have that book, it is so good, very amusing had me in stitches some of the comedy antics they used to get up to!!! 12 months and 1 day since I posted that, still think its a nice easy read. If your into true crime books Essex Boys and Wannabe in my gang are both pretty good. The best true crime book I read recently was Wicked Beyond Belief by Michael Bilton. It tells the story of the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. Whilst it does go into detail on the attacks it mainly focuses on the failure of the police investigation. The number of times he slipped through the net is incredible. I tend not to usually really enjoy the "classics" (sad, being that I got my degree in English Lit), but I'd highly recommend Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" if you like true crime novels.
  3. Terrible service from the left a couple seasons ago.... And I agree our results wouldn't be improved by him leaving, but I don't think they'd be hurt, either, if a suitable replacement was found for about the same we got for Cole (Radzinski?). And for those blaming Souness for this: First, he was rumored to be going well before the blowup with Souness and second, I think it shows a lot about the professionalism of both of them that Souness was still willing to start him, and that he performed at his best of the season, after it happened.
  4. Good Choice.... Am I the only one who found this book a pretentious load of garbage ? Thank you. I thought I was the only one.
  5. If you have a hotmail address you should remain anonymous. Apparently there is a way for someone to get in and change your hattrick account. As for the addresses, I think they probably sell the info in exchange for letting you play for free. As for my question, How do you tell what position your guys play?
  6. Damn, beat me to it. Might look into placing a small bet on a 4-0 scoreline after the first 2 meetings and the reserves match that all ended up 4-0.
  7. For me Smith isn't being loyal. He's jumping ship. Sure he's gutted they've gone down, but a TRUE fan would stay and help him team back up- sod the international career. If you were a Rovers fan playing for the team and got relegated would you stay or go? I'd stay, and I'd be surprised if most fans wouldn't agree with me. There is no loyalty in football anymore- only the supporters. Horrible reasoning - he's 23, so he has a few years till he comes into his prime. There's no way he should spend the next two years struggling in a cloggers league because he's a fan. A professional career is much too short for that kind of loyalty. On the plus side he might get into double figures in the first division . Jermaine Defoe was crucified for asking for a transfer the day after West Ham went down, Smiths done it before they went down- yet he's branded a loyal hero of some sort. Beat me to it...
  8. OK, favor to ask of those going to Spurs and bringing inflatables: Whenever we go to events with beach balls and other inflatables going around (especially Jimmy Buffett concerts), my friend Rick used to write "Rick is Great in Bed" on them. Others of us jumped onto this phenomenon (not seeing if he's great in bed), writing it on them as well. It's become a tradition now, and Buffett even read one of them and commented on it during a concert. What I would like is if people could write that on a couple inflatables and take some pictures. A picture of a group of women (or even better, a group of guys) in their Rovers gear holding a giant beach ball with "Rick is Great in Bed" on it would be priceless. Inflatable sex toys with it on would be great as well, as we bought him an inflatable sheep for his 40th birthday last year. Thanks!
  9. I mostly go for hard-boiled detective books, tend to have favorites by city (for all of these authors, start at the beginning of the series): Boston - Dennis Lehane New York - Laurence Block D.C. - George Pelecanos LA - Walter Mosley Upper Michigan (not a city, I know) - Steve Hamilton As for other novels, I really like the 2 by Harris (haven't read Pompey yet, waiting for paperback) and Richard Price is really good once you get into the books - Clockers is one of my favorites.
  10. Well, I almost found out when on a walk this weekend with my pup, who would win in a ruck between a goose and a golden retriever/poodle mix. The only thing that made me hold him back (and he was at full "don't hold me back" mode - the leash pulling him up on his hind legs while he kept trying to run at them), was the knowledge of who would win in a ruck between the wife and I if he lost.
  11. Ever consider that he used Black players not for any sort of message or big racial statement, but as his best shot to win? Heck, I'd use my worst enemy if it could help me.
  12. Not sure if this has been mentioned in another thread yet, but looks like Arsenal will get to clinch against Spurs. I think that's even better than winning the Champs League as far as some of the fans are concerned.
  13. I missed the d for a while and thought you were talking about Stan...
  14. enjoy it while you can, because you aren't good enough to get the automatic spot in 05/06 - lost it to Turkey.
  15. Hoping they do Geese v. Swans eventually: http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/anima...malfaceoff.html Just a shame that on the actual show they use computer simulations, not the real animals. Would love to see them do that and @#/? off PETA.
  16. Actually, I just went back and read it, and WHILE I DO NOT AGREE with what he said, it was actually a pretty funny post.
  17. I know it's been mentioned before, but another way to do it is to do a partial season ticket plan of say, 10 matches. Include all the big name teams and then a couple of the lesser teams and round out with some other matches (say, the big 3, Liverpool, the 3 promotion teams, Bolton, City and Birmingham). Another way would be to do a flex ticket package where you would buy a strip of 10 or 20 tickets that you could use in any combo for any match. Say bring the family of 4 to a few matches and go to the rest yourself.
  18. He was, but he's an idiot....
  19. He was brought in as Brad's understudy to take over the number 2 spot next season.
  20. Anyone see this Rock and Roll "Hall of Fame" induction they just had? What a load. Traffic? Yeah, they had some good songs, but are they really one of the greatest of all times? Jackson Browne? Not near the influence other singer/songwriters of his time were. George Harrison (for his solo work)? The songs they chose to play of his at the ceremony weren't his solo songs, which shows how powerful that library is. About the only one deserving was Prince. The man is definitely a legend and a huge influence on a lot of modern music.
  21. What happened with the Middle Eastern group that was rejected because of the makeup of the board? Any chance of them getting back in, either now, or kinda force their way in after administration? Supposedly they did make a more reasonable offer then any other made, I'd think an administrator wouldn't care about the makeup of the board, just try to get the best deal he/she could.
  22. 1) Brad has still been playing very well and has made only the odd mistake as he did last year, however he is being given a lot more chances to make mistakes this year as the defeence has been poor. He hasn't been bad, but his reflexes aren't what they were last year. Last year he was making saves no one would ask him to. The differences is that this season he's not making near as many. Still one of the tops, but last season was a "career year" for Brad. As for the Souness must go issue, give the man some time to play with a full strength squad that has had time together to gel. Next season we'll be back to where we were last year, if not better, with the squad that Souness has constructed.
  23. Question regarding differences in laws. Over here, if someone is looking to buy a company in Leeds' financial state, they usually wait until bankruptcy is filed (administration). At that point they usually get a better deal with the creditors and the administrator, due to the protections that the bankruptcy court provides the debtor. Could that be what is going on with Leeds (ie - is the consortium holding out with the creditors and Birch and co. are going to go into administration to help force a deal), or does it work differently? Oh, and kudos for keeping us up on all of this and helping explain it in a way we can understand Phillip.
  24. I seem to remember when Gresko was played in left midfield against Villa last season (his first match for Rovers, I believe) Souness was criticized for playing him out of position....
