Yeah we could have. Or he could have done his ACL and never quite been the same player. Or we might not have got 22M. Or we might have gone down and vultures would have circled.

I think it stinks to high heaven - especially with the statement saying the club was suitably funded before any of this happened. But I can’t say that and commit to it until I’ve seen what happens.

If we spend 15M in summer on three quality players that make a positive impact then it’s probably the right decision.

Agreed. Honestly, I do hope my own ugly feeling is proved wrong..

I think that quote is true. If I was in charge I would have sold Adam for 22M+ as well.

Every other club that’s done what we are attempting has sold players at the right time for their maximum value. There is no point us having a 22M midfielder and gaping holes up front and in defence. The question is will we reinvest any of the money. Thats what I’ll judge them on.

The timing though. We could have kept him for longer and eventually made more money. My concern is that we have had to sell him so soon because of the stuff around the Indian court case.

Hence, I am making a "working" assumption that the money won't really be invested in the playing side..

Is this me? I don’t think I’ve ever suggested anyone “is on a paid agreement to toe the Venkys party line” - can you show me where I said that?

If so, for absolute clarity, I don’t think anyone at BBC Lancs, Andy Bayes or Elliott Jackson are being paid to say specific things.

Of course not...but then I read..

" Adam Warton's rise offers opportunity to prove Blackburn Rovers model"

    It really doesn't help...

I’ll be thankful of being excited by a player, so long as “excitement” isn’t a euphemism for heart palpitations when he passes to an opposition player while playing out from the back and punching my own head when we concede from it. Not that I expect that, of course.

Thanks. That made me laugh at least..(even if it does ring true)

I can't bring myself to click on it. I'm genuinely heartbroken. I was never going to forgive venkys anyway, but this is a new low.

They're just bastards they really are

If only that person hadn't thrown that snowball....and we'd still be in the Premier League...oh, wait.....

The club couldn’t wait to get him out and get the money in. Couldn’t wait. They didn’t try in any way whatsoever to hang on to him.

Football is secondary at Ewood nowadays. Probably has been for a while in truth.

It has been secondary, since we replaced one of the most experienced managers in the country for an absolute novice..and then replaced a super board of directors with a litany of chancers, no marks and (ex?) agents!

In the name of God, go!!!!

I think loyalty bonuses are perfectly fair. It's Rovers that want rid of him. He has a 5 year employment contract that the club are wanting to break early

I remember reading that Alan Ball got a percentage of the transfer fee, when he went to Arsenal-because he hadn't asked for the transfer-and that was years ago!

Determining the why would influence the strategy here (easier said than done on how to determine this mind!). For my money, it has to be one the following two:

    1. Pride
    2. They have skeletons to hide

I'd personally lean towards number 2.

If someone had approached Fred and Rose West with big money for their property, do you think they would have sold?

There is a very long list of crap players bought under John Williams and Jack.  Rev neatly overlooks that in his blathering about GB.

Rev makes some good points though.

Telalovic, Hurst, Wahlstedt and Ennis indicate piss poor recruitment.

Also, I am sure I read that Sammie and Hyam were already on Rovers wish list before egg-time.

I'll be the first to say it... shame on any "fan" who boos Sam Gallagher if/when he comes back as an Ipswich Town player on March 29th. (Say what you will, but there will be boos!).

The lad gave (gives!) everything for this club - on and off the pitch - 100% effort since day 1, and that is all that counts.

Fact is, Gallagher isn't far off having a 1 goal every 4 game ratio. 43 goals in 200 league games. Not bad for a guy utilised 75% of the time on RW. (214 appearances with 46 goals total).

Save the boos for the Bradley Orr's, Shane Duffy's and Danny Murphy's.

Not only does Sam Gallagher deserve applause, I'll personally be standing when I do it.

    Rothwell?

Sorry, is this written in forlorn hope oŕ is something actually coming?

The suspense here is killing me (I know I know, it will probably be meaningless drivel)...

"We are committed to the club for endless eternity, where sighs, lamentations and loud wailings will resound through the starless air...." or summat..

Here’s a link to the Rovers section of the podcast. I’ve shared it from 17:20, this is the start of the talk about us.

Kieran Maguire mentions his source has told him about the unpaid £26m tax bill, as mentioned by other posters.

Well, they have always paid the bills....What about the agent free for all, refusal to listen to people who cared, so many terrible decisions, low grade appointments, interfering with on field matters, dumbing down and the slow lingering death...and loss of support??!!

Fck off, Kieron, do some proper research!

Yeah we've been through this before!

My recollection was Ken Furphy took Field and Terry Garbutt (?)  to then 1st Div Sheff Utd when he left and there was then a very unsatisfactory period with Dick Dinnis as caretaker.

Lee then came  towards the end of that season and completely  rebuilt the side over the close season. Whether the Field money (£75k was it?)  paid for the new signings I wouldn't like to say. We made a lot of signings and there was quite a gap between the two events.

A few months. I think Furphy took Field around March 1974.

It was an awful few months until the season finished, but Lee did a lot of business between May and July-Beamish, Hawkins, Oates etc- to give is a promotion winning team , ready for the following season.

When was the last time we sold our best/most valuable player, replaced him with 3 or 4 cheaper ones and improved as a result?

Edit: If he goes, it won't improve us on the pitch imo even if a large %age is reinvested.

We need to squeeze Palace until they squeak on this one as it'll have a detrimental effect on the pitch so we need to at least max out the fee.

1974...after selling Tony Field...nearly 50 (OMG) years ago!!!
