  1. At the Arsenal home game a couple of years back, when Toogs scored, he did most things but sit back. Given the forward-freedom, he can, imo, fill the role of Youri.
  2. Barry showed signs of an ace player last year, and I think thats signs of his promise, more than what he already is. TBH, though, I think part of the problem is his partner in midfield. Heard on SSN that Parker might be on his way back to Charlton - maybe a loan move is an option, as I cant imagine the Charlton fans will be too keen on him going back (more for his attitude than skill, obviously). A Parker/Barry midfield two would be great, and a bugger to play against, as both can do more than a simple attack or defend type role. Memories a little hazy, but didnt Todd do okay in midfield last year? maybe an option when fit again... whenever that is.
  3. Oh dear... seems Sparky has had a powercut. Toogs can do the job better than Youri, and although he hasnt been doing it recently, I would a thought a fair stretch with him not in the team would have given him the drive to get his slot back, not put him down a peg or two.
  4. The support and feelings that I personally had as a fan towards Jack, is in no way reflected in the Trust. If it means Rovers can compete at a higher level than possible, then thats all fine by me. I heard Fred Walker wanted to buy Blackburn outright
  5. So what, we should vote for players we've never seen play? Why of course. What was I thinking?
  6. Well, if they want to sell, I cant see them being all that generous with the cash anymore. Dont get me wrong, I'd prefer things to stay within the Walker Trust, but if Johnny FOreigner (or, even more unlikely, a local) wants to plough millions into the club, I'm all for it. Success comes above loyalty to the Trust. Be different if it was Jack, but as it isnt...
  7. 2-2 Rovers win on penalties. Same sorta game as Wrexham (?) a couple of seasons ago... try out the unusual on a lowly side, and nearly throw it away.
  8. Le Saux all the way... fave player when I was younger, and I'm undoubtedly biased because he was the only player who would sign my 94/95 shirt, despite having Shearer printed on the back.
  9. Hughsey take note This all reminds me of why I keep my posts as annoymous as possible (700+ posts and I still feel like a n00b). Your unrelenting... in this case your right, but unrelenting all the same.
  10. Assistant managers, as far as I'm aware, dont necaserily need to be a coach. While I'm by no means certain, if memory serves Cotteril at Sunderland and Grip and England dont do coaching. And if they did, fair enough... but doesnt Hughes take coaching for Wales, so he could do that if Newell was number 2.
  11. The only reason I suggested Newell as assistant was because he's had (albeit lower) league experience. Couple that with Hughes as manager, and I think it'd be a good combo. I do, however, concur that Shearer in any sort of managerial role, is quite possibly the stupidist thing since Florida's cock-up in the last election.
  12. I personally dont want to see him at Ewood, because I dont think he could handle the dressing room. GS saw the beginning of the effects of that, and I dont think PS could bring anything else to the team that would do the same. Good tactician, but I think he needs another year or so in the lower divisions before making the step up. Plus, applying for Preston as well as Rovers shows he's not really in it for the passion, and says (to me) a lot about his ambition.
  13. If Sturrock gets the job, I think I'll have a heart attack. Think I'd prefer Glenda than that goggled eyed pratt.
  14. Would love O'Leary to be manager, but can't see him leaving Aston Villa, who are one of thew clubs that: 1. Have money 2. Financially sound 3. On the up -Rovers can only claim point two on that list... perhaps the reported wage GS was on could tempt hi mtho... but wasnt Villa's tonk of a chairman reportedly asking for 2mill compensation when Newcastle supposedly came knocking?
  15. Hughes as manager, Newell as assistant.
  16. he cant even beat Azabijan And Sven's useless??? Yeah... I mean, beating the Germans AND the Italians was just luck... Hughes hasnt got the prowess to beat Azerbaijan. Damn these bookies for their ilogical thinking...
  17. yeah, under Strachan. Lets face it, when he inherited Soton, while being good, it wasnt GS style (hhmm, this could get confusing, with the ginger scot having the same initials). When he improved the side, and moulded it to his liking, he got a decent prem finish, and an fa cup final, and europe. Level pegging i think with rovers WC winning year (we wernt playing Arsenal in the final, lets face it). Anyone with a recent record in the prem like that has got to be considered.
  18. I think Strachan would bring a simular aggresiveness to the dressing room, but in a different way to souey. Weather thats beneficial or not, who knows, but I think he could be a star at getting players like Emo and Jansen firinf on all cylinders (although, i still doubt Jansen will ever be to what he was). Still prefer Hughes/Newell combo idea.
  19. My first thought after I head he was leaving... although, if Emerton left, I wouldnt be too bothered I really fear a bid for Barry Ferguson though. I Cm with Butt and ferguson in it could be lethal, especially behind Kluivert and Bellamy, both who could thrive off of Ferguson's forward movement. As for next manager, I think there +'s and -'s for a lot of the names (Huhes, Strachan, etc), but god forbit Houllier, El tel or Hoddle take over. Or Robson, for that matter. Personal choice would be Hughes Newell combo. I think what both could bring to the club would be beneficial, and Hughes would be able to keep the Wales job through to failing to qualify for the WC06. Only prob with that is: a. What'd happen to Parkes... loyal servant of the club cant be fired. b. Would Newell even consider being a number 2?
  20. I hope at least a loan signing is coming in. The Souness logic: Let a player go for nout, even though £400,000 bid was in place. No doubt that Italian bloke he was recomended will come in on load... what was his name... Corrado something...
  21. Ooooooooooooooookay then... I didnt thik anyone would predict THAT!
