And besides, presence tho he was, DAvid Dunn spent far too much time on the physios table/pie shop floor than he did on the pitch to be classed as a reason for Blackburns success. Good player, yes, but also moody, over-weight and injury prone - as Steve Bruce seems to be finding out. Getting £5million was absurd money for him - we basically have got Savage and £2million in return for David Dunn. I wonder who came off better out of that deal... And Duff and Dunn didnt 'leave' as such. Duff was sold, partly because of the clause in his contract, partly for the absurd amount we would get, and Dunn was sold for his falling out with Souness...

I think Neill is one of the few people whos more or less guarenteed a slot on the teamsheet this season - Nelsen will need more than one good performance (and it was good) to dislodge him, though. Still, at least there is some competition for the RB slot now...

I dont think Todd should get captaincy over Bazza, and if he does, not untill next year - he's come good, I dont think his ego needs that much attention, as much as I do think hes a great player. Lucas Neill on the other hand, I reckon would be a decent captain. But then I thought we shoulda kept Andresen.

While he isnt at all living up to his hype or prive-tag, I think people are underestimating his influence on the team. His neat and tidy, yes, but thats what we need. He doesnt often lose silly ballsc causing runs at our defence, he doesnt make rash passes, instead picking out the simple ball if nothing is on. Okay, so he doesnt tacklehard or score goals. I am in no doubt that he is one major reason for our defence becoming tighter, and if he wasnt smothered by the opposition as our best player, he would get more goals too. We paid 6.5/7.5 million for him. We shouldnt let him go for at least the same money, and even then, I dont think there is anyone willing to come to us who can do the same job. Savage is good, but just not the same player, he would be far better WITH ferguson, not having to make ground for Tugay or Flitty.

I dont think they'd do it to spite us. They know full well we havent done anything out of the ordinary, its savage they have a problem with, so the 'selling to the other club for less' argument, IMO, doesnt stand. And £1b they may be worth, but if they wernt as seemingly tight as they appear, they could afford to bring in players of a higher stature than Clinton Morrison and David Dunn. Whatever happens, Savage will not see out his contract, and he wont be in the reserves for too long.

Blackburn hold an ace in the form of Savages contract at brum. What is he on now? £25-30,000? He has got 4 years to go on that contract - no matter how stubborn Brum make themselves out to be, they will not pay Savage that much to 'rot in the reserves'. Its just a silly way to needlesly lose a lot of money. I bet Blackburn will go back with an offer around 20-25th with a minimally increased bid, and after more slagging off from Brums high ranking idiots, they will accept it anyway.

If we get offered the daft kind of money that we payed for Bazza, then I think we should seriously (and reluctantly) look hard at it. Baryy always appeared to me (although I'll admit I dont know much about him other than what I've seen) to have a bit of that stereotype Scotish fire in his belly. I think a good scrap for Blackburn and rumours will bring out the best in him, and if he can do that, why would he want to move. Each player wants to play football where he can to the best of his abilities, and I feel if he plays well for Rovers, then Rovers will play well.
