  1. Not just the Carvalhal deal, if there is a deal, I think they will mess up the appointment of any manager that can attract interest from elsewhere. It is one thing speaking to these people, gauging interest in the role, and even making a recommendation to the owners. It is quite another getting the owners to approve and sanction an appointment in a timely manner. Those, like Carvalhal, who have other irons in the fire, need not waste their time for us to get our act together, they'll just move on to other opportunities. Those who hang around and are happy to play a waiting game whilst Venkys muck around tend to be those who won't get anything better than Rovers and know it - Mowbray, Coyle
  2. Let's be honest. If there is genuine interest from another club or the manager concerned can command offers from elsewhere then we will miss out. The reason Carvalhal has managed all over the place is because he is sought after. The reason all our other Venky managers and most of the other names linked are in the reckoning is because they wouldn't get near a Championship job elsewhere We will balls this up I'm confident of that. I'm also increasingly of the belief that things are being dripped to the local media in an attempt to boost embarrassing season ticket sales. The latest being 'big name' interest in the job.
  3. Combine expensive tickets with poor marketing and uncertainty and you get poor sales. This has been years in the making under Waggott and the only way its changing is if prices are cut or if we do some exciting business on the manager/player front.
  4. Hope we steer well clear of Ferguson. Not sure exactly what he would bring to this party but an unnecessary gamble for no reason at all. Of course people will push him, particularly from the Everton end. They don't have the balls to appoint him to their own managerial job so want him to come somewhere local, learn the trade for a couple of years, if he does well they can take him off us and if he's rubbish no harm to Everton. No thanks.
  5. Yeah. For all the talk about big names and Carvalhal, and as much as I'd like it to come to fruition, I just can't see someone like that ticking the Venky boxes. Carvalhal is in a position of strength in that he doesn't need the Rovers job and he could easily get similar or better elsewhere if he waited. They don't like that. They've always desired a younger end coach seemingly with one eye on player development, and I think that Manning will be at the forefront of their thoughts there. In addition to this, because he is a relative unknown entity rather than one of the boring old names, much of the fanbase will buy into such an appointment. It will be cheaper and easier than getting one of the big names, and track record suggests that's what they like here.
  6. I heard a decent rumour that Manning had been interviewed for the job. That was at least 2 weeks ago, I put a bet on him at 33/1 and since then his name has barely been mentioned. It would be an intriguing one but after dangling the likes of Farke and Carvalhal, and talk about 'big names' being interested and the shortlist being expanded I would probably be underwhelmed if it was him. I suspect they are trying to find a candidate who won't require bringing in 3-4 staff with them which is the reason for the added names on the list as they start to scrape the barrel for other options. Manning would probably be one who might want an assistant but other than that would work with what we have left given he is so young and new to the job of head coach.
  7. I wonder whether Waggott has given Bayes a call to drop in the "new, high profile names" bit into his information. Season ticket deadline approaching remember.
  8. None of us had heard Coyle until he was stood waving a scarf down at Brockhall. None of us had heard Mowbray until he was appointed. This lot have a nasty surprise up their sleeve and can ruin even the simplest of decisions. Lets remember Warnock. It is clear Carvalhal wants the job. It is clear he is more qualified than most who have been linked or would be interested. He will quite rightly want to bring his team with him. Any decent manager will.
  9. It seems he wants to manage in England again, which is understandable as England is the place to be. He isn't getting a PL job so Championship it is. Of those Rovers, QPR and Dingles are available. It sounds as though the Dingles are going for Kompany, and it sounds as though QPR are looking more at a younger British manager. So it might be that we are the biggest and best option he has. We might not be his only option - that's an inevitable risk / issue when you aim for good managers. Not something that should put us off. Something we aren't familiar with here because all our previous appointments have been blokes desperate for a job and unable to get offers elsewhere.
  10. Nothing wrong with 2 seasons at it and review. About standard in the Championship.
  11. I've seen this story before. Several times. We spend the next week or two all quite excited and optimistic about Carvalhal and possibly a few other decent managers being interviewed for the job who are mulling things over. Then we end up with someone inept taking the job. Then they have got the best of both worlds - convincing a large swathe of the support that we mean business and have been talking to good managers with ambition, but can also bring in their cheap and cheerful preference who is going to do the job on their terms. As I've said many, many times during transfer windows you don't get points, prizes or credit for being linked with good quality, talking to good quality, or trying for good quality. You need to get good quality. Its not negativity, its realism based on track record. How many times has Waggott and Mowbray tried to reap credit from the fans by reference to what we tried and failed to do? Prove me wrong and I'll hand over my cash immediately.
  12. Maybe, although Hughes arguably did a very good/solid job at Stoke for 3-4 years before the wheels came off, and was by no means a failure at Fulham or City. Maybe more along the lines of Lambert at Norwich, Dowie at Palace, Pearson at Leicester or Phil Brown at Hull
  13. Sometimes average managers just hit the jackpot with a particular club or set of players and then never replicate that success elsewhere. It remains to be seen whether Wagner is one of those. Goes into a club like Huddersfield struggling and used to English managers and methods and then they completely buy into his way of doing things and it snowballs from there. Not one I'd be totally against as he's got a decent CV but there are concerns there.
  14. Yeah but we've done all we can
  15. It would be a typical Waggott and Venky ruse for us to spend the next couple of weeks dangling the carrot of Carvalhal in front of fans When's the season ticket cut off again? And then once that is passed we get the usual downgrade to someone useless. Hard not to be cynical after what has gone on here over the years.
  16. Carvalhal might be short term. Then I look at his first season at Sheff Wed - went from bottom half to play off final Nearly kept Swansea in the PL Rio Ave - highest ever league finish in his first season Braga - cup winners and Euro semi finals
  17. If that's all true then we'd better hope Carvalhal takes it. If Farke's not a goer and the other 3 options include a League One manager, coach (Johnson or Ferguson presumably) and an unemployed Championship manager then Carvalhal is a no brainer.
  18. Strong rumours and odds suggesting they are appointing Kompany as manager, who is meant to be leaving Anderlecht. A bit of an unkown appointment if it happens. Of course it will get plenty of publicity due to his playing career, but in his 2 years with Anderlecht he's got a 45% win record and no trophies with the biggest club in Belgium. To be honest if that happens at least it takes away another rival who could be shopping for decent managers.
  19. Of course it is the same endless cycle. I think people are getting way ahead of themselves here anticipating wholesale changes to the way the club is operated. The rumour about Balaji's son taking over has been in the background for years. Little evidence to suggest anything is happening there. Waggott is still here. We've got shut of Mowbray and his buddy Venus but the rest of the coaching staff? Still here. I still expect another disappointing managerial appointment to be made, which will then be accepted by supporters "get behind him FFS" I still expect the new manager will be allowed to bring with him one assistant manager to replace Venus and that will be it. If we ever get round to appointing this Sporting Director I expect it will be someone completely inexperienced in such a role such as a former player or coach taking on more of a ceremonial role rather than actually directing the operation as they should be. Hope and pray I am wrong on all these things but plenty of track record in the cabinet to back up what I am saying.
  20. What qualifications does he have to run a football club and would he get a senior position at any other football club? He'll be right at home here alongside Hunt, Agnew, Shaw, Shebby, Pasha, Waggott and the rest none of whom would have got anywhere near running a club of this size anywhere else.
  21. Very good question indeed, and one which I doubt even the people at the club know the right answer to. We've got the 4 top owners in India, we don't know which if any of those are actively involved. Some reckon Balaji is the football man yet it seems Desai and hubby are the ultimate power. Potentially countless advisors and managers below them in the owners' ears. Rumours about Balaji's son being prepared for the job, who knows what he does. Pasha, invisible and silent yet very much involved. Steve Waggott, supposedly the CEO and involved in the appointment process, yet can't do much by the sounds of things. So that's 7 people we know about, possibly many more sticking their beaks in.
  22. Routine maintenance required at any professional football club dressed up as Venky benevolence shocker. Next news is they'll be getting credit for emptying the bins and ordering white line paint.
  23. I'm still sticking with my predictions of Nigel Adkins, Simon Grayson or similar. I don't doubt that decent managers are out there, will have applied and will be willing to come and work here in the right circumstances. Unfortunately I don't think that will go very far as I don't think the people running Rovers want those decent managers, and even if they did I think they would blow it during the interview, negotiation or final ratification stage. NES would cost an absolute fortune. He will have been on good money at Wolves along with a small army of coaching staff including Cathro and even more at Spurs since when he has been counting his pay-off. With PL finishes of 7th and working at Spurs under his belt he can sit tight and wait for another PL job or if not lucrative employment in Europe, Middle East or beyond. The only way he comes to the Championship is with a huge salary and big budget to get promoted. I'd like to think it is possible, but unless the people running Rovers have had brain transplants over the last few weeks (these the people who continue to employ 2nd rate staff and cut corners on pitch replacement costs) it isn't happening.
  24. Rewarding season ticket holders? That's certainly the last thing on the minds of those making these decisions. Only have to look at the disgraceful treatment of season ticket holders since 2019 to see how much they care. It's nothing more than a cynical yet flawed attempt to try to pressure people into buying quickly, people risk missing out on a popular day at Stanley if they aren't quick. Of course those not renewing yet for significant reasons - financial or waiting to see what happens on the manager front - aren't going to change their minds on that due to this. If they are that bothered they'll just get them from Stanley instead.
  25. Anyone worried about the season ticket holder exclusivity period can just get one in the Stanley end. Barking mad this lot. Game was announced and Stanley had tickets on sale well over a week ago. We then put them on sale but decide to impose restrictions on sales. Probably just another foolish attempt by Waggott to cajole people into buying season tickets thinking they are going to miss out. I won't succumb to such stunts I'll just go in the new bar and sit in the home end. They aren't going to force me into signing up - balls in their court - sort the managerial situation out properly and I'll pay top end prices.
