  1. I shouldn't ever say never, but 99.99% of the time it does not happen Players respect their own reputation too. Throwing games is a sin. I have seen dressing room bust ups because other plays have called out someone for not putting in 100% - literal fist fighting. "Not playing for the manager" is imo a lazy statement
  2. You hear about managers/coaches losing the dressing room every time poor runs happens The only time I remember a manager "losing" the dressing room has been a Sunday pub team. And he was an idiot. I don't doubt there have been cases in professional football of a breakdown in communication, but it certainly isn't as often as we hear In reality the players are professionals. They may bitch and moan to each other, but when they go out on to the pitch they don't go out to lose. It doesn't happen
  3. I don't really think there does need to be a plan @glen9mullan The reality is that there is not an appetite to protest. Nor is there really an area that can be attacked. Missing payments, court cases, negligence and abject failures to live up to responsibility is a trend of the Venky ownership and will continue to be so until they finally leave our town The Trust really does not have much sway over what goes on at the club, and I'd wager is not really representative of the match going fan. I know far more about the Trust and what goes on at Venkys than my family in Blackburn. They go every game. I go a handful of times a season and mainly to away games I honestly think that this 'house of cards' will only come tumbling down as a result of their own stupidity. It will not be because of pressure from us. They are immune to it. India is thousands of miles away, and their culture is not one which promotes fawning to those below them. We are a piece in a big jigsaw to them
  4. Yes Matty, I agree with this too I do wonder what the league and even our own financial authorities make of this situation. Effectively, a British registered company is relying on a foreign government to release funds and allow them to comply with UK laws, ie not trade insolvent Surely this would have some sort of regulation in place. I don't know. It seems a backward way about things with me; but then again, we are talking about a multinational conglomerate here, and nothing is every transparent in those companies Quite how long a football club can be held to these types of restrictions is unknown to me. I think this may be a first case of this nature
  5. I agree wholeheartedly The consequences of administration are profound, of course. Other clubs have bounced back from this though. I don't think we are a Bury type case. We are an established top level club - and by top level, I mean the top two leagues in the country - and still hold some amazing infrastructure. I still think we are an attractive club to own and do not believe we would struggle to find offers The reality is that we may face a decade or so fighting back through the leagues, assuming we wind up in League 1 or 2. I've always said I would rather watch us in League 2 and owned by people who care than watch us in the Championship owned by Venkys It is a matter of pride for me. Growing up away from Blackburn means I've always had it in the neck about Rovers. It used to be easy for me because we were better than everybody else, either on or off the pitch. Nowadays, it is difficult to have pride when you know the truth. Most other fans don't know what goes on at Rovers, and all they see is a club in decline with no fans, who sell all their players and never show ambition. Rather than talk about it over and over you end up just nodding. The Venkys have made what used to be a great source of pride, into a source of embarrassment
  6. I am sorry to all but once again I’m filing this as just another case of Venkys incompetence and not a smoking gun They paid the tax bill. This threat from HMRC was never a winding up order. They had issues releasing the funds, but that was resolved and the business has since spent money on non-critical issues, ie transfers and the such Unfortunately when you are run by careless people on shoe string budgets these things happen
  7. I’m still holding out faith for JDT. I think he’s a good coach with a bad hand. But what is starting to grate is that he is so unwilling to change approach. It’s obvious we are desperate for a change. His stubbornness may cost him his job the cynic in me thinks he doesn’t care if he goes. I think he is a consummate professional and sees through Waggot and the Venkys. I think there will be some barbed comments if he does go aimed at “our CEO” and his coach…..
  8. I am talking about in the modern era In the last 10-15 years football has changed massively. Defending and holding on to 1 goal leads isn't a model for success at the present time But, when the chips are down, it has to be considered to get points on the board
  9. If my memory is correct, the first 6 months of JDT being here were full of scrappy 1-0 wins I was starting to think the stories of him wanting to play possession, flowing football were a myth. We sat deep and we soaked up pressure. I can see why you want to move from that style - it doesn't win you anything, really. Not many great sides have won big things by playing like that all season. Maybe Leicester in their PL surprise is the only team I can name that has had success in this way. Yet, for Rovers, it ground out results and got us into a place where promotion was achievable. JDT would do well to remember them months. It doesn't have to be pretty all the time and getting wins under a squads' belt is far more important than being attractive
  10. Letting Travis go is not the disaster some are making out. Tronstad is better It’s being able to use that money effectively that’s the worry. Will it all go back to the playing department? History says no
  11. By agent I didn't mean football agent in the way we know, I meant just as someone acting on behalf of a government, like the Indian tax authorities As they are overseas the UK government or HMRC has no authority over them. Many clubs could be shut down by changes in other nations' tax rules, or at least suffer administration. It seems precarious
  12. You have to wonder what the FA, EFL and maybe even the PL make of situations like this We are in a strange situation here where a foreign government intervention has meant a football club is effectively trading insolvent, unless that same foreign government allows a transfer of funds... This opens the league up to all sorts of abuses by foreign agents
  13. Yeah and it just doesn't make sense either Raya developed into a PL goalkeeper. Brentford knew what he was. It was Tony that didn't. Tommy K came in from Gent, was established enough, but again after spending a few years under Rovers' coaching went on to the Premier League I actually think Pears has improved too. His earlier performances for Rovers were terrible to say the least. Up until his injury he showed a big improvement I feel like Mercer's problem with Benson is unfounded. Not one other Rovers fan I know has told me they saw Raya act disrespectfully towards Benson. Does Mercer see what nobody else does? 😕
  14. Blues sacking Eustace was always going to end badly. Not a single "bluenose" I have spoken to was happy with that decision The goodwill their new owners have at the moment will not last long if they keep making bad decisions like this. The Birmingham City fans enjoy a confrontation. Is it twice they have invaded the pitch whilst Rovers have been at St Andrews? They do it regularly and all aim for the directors' box
  15. But the Premier League is the best league in the world at the moment. It was Serie A in the 90s / early 00s Finances, viewership and quality all outstrip the other major European leagues Just because performances in the Champions League aren't up to scratch does not detract from the overall quality of the league. Newcastle pushed some European giants all the way, and whilst they finished bottom, it is no shame in a group of PSG, Dortmund and AC Milan
  16. It was a real Championship game weren't it? Full of baggy touches and misplaced passes. There were a few tired legs out there and the Christmas period is just getting going.. Leo was great. He answered his critics. His saves brought us the 3 pts and was my man of the match. Tronstad is a serious midfielder. His composure on the ball mixed with the aggression in the tackle - perfect combination. One particular tackle comes to mind, where he ended up winning the foul after and relieved the pressure on us Moran had has bad a game as he has had for us. He's a tidy player so I will just chalk it down as "one of them" To do well in this league you have to win ugly. It's something we need to learn to do more. So that will be good experience for us. Bristol City are no great shakes though. They were really poor throughout and I felt a better team might have taken that game to us more.
  17. We need to learn some game management. Know when to get rid of that damn ball
  18. The medium term future of the club appears to be getting sorted. I believe that’s both keepers and our back line now all contracted to at least 2025, some on deals up to 2027 Tronstad is here until ‘26, Szmodics ‘27, Wharton has an option until ‘25 but it would be nice to get him tied down too, Travis ‘26 It’s looking a lot better than in the contract department since Broughton came. Now he just needs to try and find a striker……
  19. Burnley have turned their backs on what made them competitive and that betrayal is why they will sink without a trace this year Dyche had them playing with pragmatism. Sacrificing flowing, passing football for a style that won points and ensured the Prem cash kept rolling in In come the Americans and pragmatism is thrown out of the window. They want entertainment and a "brand". They haven't signed players good enough to do that and imo have tried to do it too quickly. Brighton play some real good football now, but when they first came up it was survival first, performance second They have the backing of some American business men but even this whole JJ Watt thing is just odd. Okay, he's a fairly big sportsman in America, but he's no Lebron James. His net worth is less than $100m so really JJ Watt is poor relative to the Premier League money I thought Burnley were in trouble when they last got relegated and was proved wrong, or so I thought at the time. But they have splashed the cash this year and got nowhere and off the pitch isn't this Yankee revolution it was sold as. The parachute money is their safety net but if football was as cut throat as competitive sport should be, they could be in real trouble. The system will prop them up for a while but unless they go back to what made them good, then they need to be looking more at Norwich for their future instead of Brighton
  20. Haha, yeah you are probably right Tyrone I remember a few players chipping in with some purple patches that season. One being Dom Samuel. Games come thick and fast these days, so what feels like 5 weeks was probably 2... I always liked Antonsson. He held wide well and was a willing runner. Not up to the task at League 1 really and so his move out of English football was a good one
  21. It is bloody difficult to get a striker with the finances we have I reckon Leonard is the man to replace Gallagher, and our money - wage - will go on an "attacker" instead of a striker like Gally. Someone who can play wide or centrally, a Szmodic type of player
  22. Marcus Antonsson was fantastic for us........for about 5 weeks But what a great 5 weeks it was
  23. The time we gave Mowbray was always bizarre, both considering our history of hiring / firing and the average time managers have in football these days It is a cut throat business really. Time will tell with us whether it was a one off, or whether we do have owners who are patient (or disinterested) Sunderland fans and their board crave success. He was never going to last. In all of Mowbray's jobs he has had terrible runs of defeats. For me, it speaks to his inability to rouse a dressing room When you compare him to the likes of JDT, it is chalk and cheese. The positivity and general spirit of JDT shines in every moment you see him. Whilst you can imagine he "lets the boys know", such as after Sheff Weds, I bet the next day in training was like a new start. Mowbray on the other hand...not exactly inspiring
