  1. Lol, well at this side of the A59 we've learned to keep our hopes in check whenever we appear to be in better positions for anything. The last 11 years have given us spades of humble pie, so the less ebullient of us tend not to exercise bragging rights until after the event. And then again, although I guess I did introduce the idea just above, for us there is only one set of bragging rights that is of any consequence, and it doesn't involve looking westward at anything happening up the Nob-End of things 🙂 - Sorry!
  2. Condolences to you, Graham's family and friends. Football fans are literally a dying breed. I hope your wish comes true, Den. I really do.
  3. It's fair comment, but I don't think he's in contention to start for Rovers on Friday, either. Have to treat this as another banana skin - lose on Friday and there can be no excuses, or apologists incapable of accepting the cynical cycle of avoiding actual contention and retention of a top 6 place. A win doesn't necessarily confirm anything either, but it would be nice to take back some bragging rights from the NobEnders, after they had our pants down for the past couple of seasons... COYB!
  4. Some years ago I used to referee short format seven a side games in the Blackburn area, and regularly came across Paul Gallagher turning out for Blackburn Blind Society (really!!). He never reacted badly whenever the inevitable big time billy had a go at him, managing to avoid most of the mad lunges intended to do him some harm. Neither would he acknowledge who he was, which got to be a bit of a game over the three or so seasons I saw him do it. Good job I never had to caution him, I guess, although I always made it clear that I knew who he was and that he should be aware of the risks involved. Nice lad, from whatI could tell. The other one was Glenn Keeley, who played in the veterans league over in Preston for some years (well after leaving Rovers) and who was clearly a head above in class than his team mates in the games I refereed.
  5. Brilliant memories. What a night. What a team. What a great goal keeper!
  6. Elliot had a shocker yesterday. Absolutely bombed. We played our main goal threat as a winger. and gave him no one to aim at, expecting instead that he somehow miraculously played two roles in one. Clueless doesn't cover it. Hopeless is more accurate .
  7. Nyambe off... NOOOOO!! Rothwell off..... Meh... Davenport off... Meh. Dacky On 🙂 Holtby Meh.. Harwood Bellis... who knows..
  8. We look way off the pace here. Second to the ball, poor passing, lots of huff puff and hoof..
  9. Aye, feck 'pick n mix' - let's go for SMASH AND GRAB, like we were doing earlier in the season.
  10. Not arguing with you, simply refuting your initial statement that Breretor would struggle to get into any of the top 15 Championship teams, which is clearly bunkum. Don't hide down a rabbit hole with JLowe and Henley!
  11. Nope. He is regularly selected to play by the manager, is established.
  12. Erm, I guess we are getting old, as it IS 41 years ago! Andy Crawford! I soooo wanted him to be brilliant, but instead he smoked his own exhaust and fizzled out on Formby beach, as I remember.
  13. I remember the excitement of getting down early to Ewood to see the players warming up, and DM doing some unbelievable tricks with the ball (well they seemed astonishing to me at the time) and coming over to the Riverside for a chat with the fans. He seemed such a genuine character, and his smiling face in a Rovers shirt was one of my best memories of supporting the club back in the day. There are few ex-players that I'd be truly still in awe of if I was to meet them, but Duncan McKenzie would definitely be someone whose hand I would love to shake and say thanks for the memories!
  14. Didn't Duncan McKensie come to Rovers with an equally blemish free disciplinary record, which got spoiled in one of his final appearances for us, nearly making him spontaneously combust with embarrasment? A great player, and a true gentleman footballer IMO - a lost breed, entirely!
  15. That one got me ejected from the Turd, the day Keith Fear scored and Rovers won a nervy end to end match many years ago...Big police inspector collared me and shouted "what did you say?" and I was stupid enough to repeat it, which gave him licence to have me thrown out.. Them were the days!
  16. I mean, how much is someone like TM paid for his weekly gurning antics? Does BFS wage actually cover his consumption of wrigley's finest? Can Pep afford a new beanie from time to time? Does Woy Hodgson need to clamber over Mrs Hodg in the mornings, or could (should) he comfortably retire at this point? Surely someone has an idea of what the economics of football managership stack up like? C'mon now, don't be shy 😉
  17. With the way things are going with this pandemic, mutating strains of Covid etc, it may be a very long tim (if at all ever) before we can see a return of (safe) standing on football terraces.. a loooonnnnng time indeed.
