I doubt he regrets the move to United at all - probably made enough money to support the next 5 generations of his family and won a boatload of trophies. Its a year though at the end of the day and he did play regularly last season for a genuine playoff chasing team. Not exactly inspired by the signing either but we did offer Conway a deal and he obviously decided against - so I guess it comes down to who you would prefer from the two and its quite obvious that Downing has by far eclipsed Conway in the career stakes.

Sounds great but the problem is - he is older than both of those (admittedly just on Conway) and its not really that much different to Murphy. I knows we give stick to older signings here but we don't have the best of history with aging unless we go as far back as Tugay and he was early thirties when he signed. You could also argue we already have an ex England international on our books that went for millions to big clubs. Dunno whats going on with the latter either - looked greatin patches looked cant be arsed in others.

Preston's obsession with us continues to amaze. Even their Bauer thread is more about us than the player. They beat us to a L1 free signing - well bloody hell. Didn't we blast them out of the water last year when they chased Armstrong? One poster even said that at least they have leveled the score with Bauer...uhum what? All players are very cliche about what they say when joining a club though tbh. They just say what they think they want people to hear. I doubt he came here for the football we play, or for any other reason than its another million in the bank at the end of his career and a manager he probably knows and gets on with. I just hope: A: His legs have not completley gone B: He doesn't do a dam Murphy and take the piss out of the club that is paying him a decent wedge - the last one he will get.

Bemused mate, dont wanna derail a thread with personal stuff but was just sudden death - was normal the day before, cleaned his plate as always, shat healthily as always, mood was the same as always. My wife got up a couple hours before to go to toilet and said he was fine as well, normal, tail wagging, following her around. More I look into it, seems its a stroke, heart attack, anuerysom or something like that which is sudden. I could potentially find out for sure but will cost an arm and a leg for an autopsy which would both not guarantee finding cause of death or bring him back.

Fair to say McGinn would have moved to Villa (playoff finalists the year before) over us that just came up from L1 even if we did stump up the extra. My issue is that it was clear McGinn was a top target quite early on for us, and our whole slowness throughout a summer what with trips to India with hands out meant that we were unable to get it done quickly before Villa came sniffing around.
