Didn't Gresko only join on loan and play with Duff for 4 months? (Jan-May 2003) But your general point is valid. For me the example would be Warnock. Warnock was not a great fullback, terrible positionally and erratic and reckless in tackling, but Pederson did SO much defensively it allowed Warnock to impress more than he deserved IMO. Mowbrays system basically hangs his full backs out to dry. Expecting them to do everything - so unless you have Cafu and Ashley Cole as fullbacks, you're screwed.

I'd be happy with him. Ironically us signing someone like Sarr as a second choice (Free Transfer) is basically the Championship equivalent of a Premier League team (WBA) signing Kipre as a backup for £900,000. Kipre to WBA is a no brainer for WBA. Less than a million and "cheap" wages for a 3rd, 4th or 5th CB. One you can keep and start for you next season if you get relegated.

I know I made the joke earlier... But why don't we make a loan bid for Ryan Sessegnon at Spurs. Heard the other day Celtic fancied a loan and if you were Mourinho you'd surely rather loan out to top 10* of the Championship, where he is playing and tested every week unlike the SPL cakewalk (bar 4 games a season).

If true.... that's another example of why you shouldn't wait 35 days into a transfer window to bid for the players you want. Sometimes you don't have to be best looking girl at the bar, sometime you just happen to be the only girl at the bar... the closer you get to the end of a transfer window, the busier that bar gets. ... Stoke must have the biggest squad in the Championship, they just stockpile players (usually ones we speak of on here!) Speaking of Lindsay "not being rated etc"... im sure fans of Bournemouth and Brentford could have said similarly with Josh King (barely played - even when fit) and David Raya (slated by too many + dropped for Leutwiler). Imagine what other fans would say if they signed Nyambe who regularly plays 2nd fiddle to Bennett who may be the worst RB in the league. Yet we know the truth. Lindsay (loan - option) and Cunningham (loan - free transfer) would theoretically upgrade our back four considerably.

It can't be that much of an exception if one club can do it multiple times though, can it? Mbuemo cost like £6m so he is the exception, however Benrahma and Watkins (combined) cost less than we paid for Leon Best, 8 feckin years ago. If only we had Brentfords owners, management and scouting, (not to mention GK coach from the last few years). We're not chasing a white whale here, we're just living in the dark ages with absent (bill paying) owners and Tony the Timid.

All this talk about evaluating the squad before making moves ... we only have 1 legitimate CB, we have Bell at left back and we've no goalkeepers to even evaluate ? 16 days have passed since our season ended, 36 days until our season begins again. We are basically 1/3 of the way through this close season. 30% in, and shock, Mowbray has bugger all to show for it. Not only is he a Dinosaur, he's a fucking slow one.

Rumours that Brentford will sign Ivan Toney if/when they sell Ollie Watkins for £20m+ (3 years after a £2m purchase from Exeter). Ivan Toney has been hyped on here for probably 5 windows... to see him go to Brentford (and likely light it up) will send some people in this place into meltdown. Least we have our budget though.

This guy was at one time rated in the "world class" territory was he not? Would be a hell of a name, but surely not likely, even at 33. If he's still got it, the likes of Brentford, Norwich, Leeds and Fulham would be ahead of us I'd think (with their advanced scouting systems ?). Also not sure he has ever played against Coventry. It is about time we had another Argentinian... Between Formica, Di Santo and Ossie, we haven't really done too great there.

Fully agree with what you're saying. My point is (at least) we have Amari'i Bell... We literally do not have a GK or a CB to partner Lenihan... If we end up signing a quality GK, CB and CM that will actually improve our first XI, Bell may actually seem serviceable. If we don't sign a competent GK or CB, we may aswell all his snooze until 2021-2022.

Would you accept that we are only in this crazy situation due to Mowbray, and his blind determination to play Elliott Bennett at all costs (usually Nyambe's). Any other manager - I literally mean any - would have seen this and had Nyambe signed up till at least 2022, LAST summer. He is a physical beast, who needs coached, not made casualty #1 every time we have our strongest XI available meaning Bennett has to play (somewhere). Like with Raya, Mowbray is going to cost us another (potentially) brilliant young player for relative pennies... unless he gets him signed ASAP. I'd actually be okay with Bell as our LB IF it allowed us have a quality GK and CB alongside Lenihan, and maybe a Whiteman in midfield. There is a player in there somewhere... like Nyambe. Would we have made the playoffs with this as our defensive 7 for most of the season - Raya, Bell, Tosin, Lenihan, Nyambe, Travis, Whiteman? Walton and Bennett in the back 5 ruined our season.
