I will always stand by the fact towns/cities are heavily linked with how well the local football club is doing. If the club is doing well the town/city seems to do well, once the club starts on a downhill path so does the town.

I remember they moved the camera gantry because the Riverside didn't look great on TV... I'd argue the empty jack walker stand looks just as shit.

The town itself doesn't help with the matchday experience, growing up there were so many pubs etc to visit and the town was absolutely booming. Saturdays shopping in town would be a write off - because rovers were at home! Now? 90% couldn't care less the town has moved on from the club and they have distanced themselves.
