I should have been more clear, Balaji wanted a young marquee signing that would increase in value. Brereton was identified by the club that meet that criteria. He would not have trousered the cash for a three average players. Don’t forget that he was an English youth international when we signed him and he was playing for a top championship club.

I’d like to bring up the goalkeeper situation. Kaminski has 12 months left on his contract. I can’t see him signing another as he’s in one of the best international squads and he’s in the top 2 keepers in the division. We need to ensure we have a replacement lined up. Pears is not good enough and it’s too early for Eastham who is by far the best backup at the club. We don’t want another Whilton situation again.
