  1. i wouldnt say 5 boroughs is representitive of the genre. Im having a lot of trouble getting into it. Pauls Boutique is my favourite beasties album by a mile Quality Control is absolutely amazing, i agree with that!! Lucky that I said it was only a sample then. All of J5's stuff is brilliant though. I was fortunate enough to see them in my Students Union 2 years ago. It was one of the best concerts I've been to, top class hip-hop. I also Nu-Mark last summer in the Belfast Empire. J5 (along with the black guy from Dilated Peoples-I also saw them in the same venue in June) were also there to lend their DJ a hand. Outstanding stuff altogether. Please listen to the following acts (sorry if i sound patronising, but ive never met a brit thats heard of all four!): IAM Saian Supa Crew Supreme Ntm Waxolutionists. Anyone thats into melodic hip hop should dig these acts. Unfortunately ive never found their stuff in the UK (apart from HMV oxford st!) SSC work with Roots Manuva on a regs and IAM with Rahzel. These acts sell out football stadiums on the continent, but british attitudes mean they play to pub crowds here - SSC even did a schools tour of England to promote the french language - this is roughly the equivalent of Oasis doing a french school tour!! I've never heard of any of those. I do have a friend who's a massive fan of hip-hop; he's bound to have heard of at least one. If they're European, then I'm not surprised they do very little business here. Continental urban acts are generally viewed with suspicion. Probably because the vast majority of the stuff is rubbish.
  2. What nonsense. The Old Firm game is easily the most intense derby on the planet. As the only two teams capable of winning the title, the victor often stands in good stead in the league rankings. Set aside the quality of football (which is rarely of a very high standard in any derby game) and factor in the history, tension, atmosphere and large fanbases (all the things that contribute to such an occasion). It is utterly wrong to dismiss it outright like that. Yes the SPL is crap, but the Old Firm is one of its few positive aspects. Sure the atmosphere is pretty intense I'll give you that. But then so are many other derby games (Barca Madrid say.) So the winners of the rangers celtic match most likely win the SPL - wow - what a prize. The SPL is so insignificant, you've said yourself the SPL is a joke, that the stakes are hardly much more than bragging rights. And what with at least four derby games per season the derby's highly repetative and too commonplace. Similarly I'd argue the quality and class on display is far higher in a premiership derby for example. Tottenham Arsenal for example is littered with high class players. As for tradition - is the tradition any greater than that of the other derby? Is it a greater tradition than the Rovers-Burnley derby? Ok they're two comparatively small (in terms of catchment area and on the international scale) clubs but to me that just adds to the tradition and atmosphere of the occassion. To me Celtic Rangers games are too commonplace, fighting it out for very little, prizes which internationally are looked down upon. You misunderstand. Of course the SPL title means nothing to us, but to the hordes of fans it means everything. That is what is at stake for these two big clubs. The whole point of any derby game is that it is representative of the fans, the history and traditions are utterly intrinsic. The quality of the football and the class of players is secondary to the results and bragging rights. Nowhere is this more hotly contested than in Glasgow.

  4. In reference to the kind of music which portrays mythical elements like forlorn vales etc; listened to by blokes with long hair, in comic book shops, who wear heavy metal t-shirts who play...Magic the Gathering. I know that's slightly complex, but there you go. Ok I've never heard of Magic the Gathering. Probably because I don't spend my time in comic shops. But I do have long hair and wear Heavy Metal t-shirts, so two cliches of three is not bad I guess. On a related note - just back from Nightwish. What a tremendous gig. Keep your Jay-Z/Linkin Park, thanks all the same. Two cliches is better than no cliches don't you think? As for Jay-Z/Linkin Park, they're alright I suppose, but they sell way too many albums for my taste.
  5. She sang Gollum's Song in the second LOTR film (which is actually more melodic than you might expect).

  7. Whoever is advising Ferguson to make these ludicrous statements is doing a very poor job. While Celtic versus Rangers is as big as they come, that really is it. The guy's playing in the ultimate mickey mouse league, yet he clearly thinks he's at the cutting edge. What a fool. Like the rest of my family, I'll be hoping that Celtic giving them a good beating this weekend.

  9. Not necessarily. You might just sell less because you're sh*te. Of course that doesn't apply to anyone in the Magic The Gathering metal genre.
  10. Ah I see your logic: the less record sales you have, the harder you work. It makes sense.
  11. No, instead your money is lining the pockets of the aforementioned bands. I'd say they probably need it...
  12. There is quite an extensive DVD included.
  13. I don't know what the score will be, but all I know is that we CANNOT lose this...
  14. I don't know if it's already been mentioned but I would strongly recommend Daily Mail favourite His Dark Materials (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass). This trilogy, written by Philip Pullman, is prgressively audacious in both scope and ideas. The religious/secular conflict is actually quite a discomforting read, Pullman's ideas would have been considered heresy 30 years ago. Fantastic stories though.
  15. Weren't they on the cover of Smash Hits last month?
  16. For those who like hip-hop, I recommend the Beastie Boys' To the 5 Boroughs and Jurassic 5's full studio debut Quality Control. Both are fantastic samples of the genre.
  17. He's worse than Peacock. Get rid.
  18. Muse are about as alternative as the 'normal' public are willing/able to go.
  19. I've been listening to some of my dad's Beach Boy CDs. Lots of quality, lots of weird, contrived nonsense. Smile is supposed to be the real deal though. Did anyone see the Beach Boys programme on the BBC a couple of weeks ago? It's quite sad how the whole thing fell apart. Wilson's genius was off-set by his shyness and his eventual descent into insanity. The bloke is a complete nutter now, he may still be living in his shed from the look of him.
  20. Good result. 3 points well received. Let us hope Palace get a hiding from Collapse FC on Monday night.
  21. Steady on, Norwich have come back from worse than that this season.
  22. That was quite a while I go now. You may as well claim Celtic's earlier successes as 'dominance'. They're just as relevant. By the way, didn't they win nine in a row, or was that just Old Firm games...? Pathetic.
  23. Erm, the Bernabeu is in Madrid. In Spain... You do have point regarding the Sky money, yet your theory is sheer hypothesis. The fact (another one of those) of the matter is that Ferguson ditched the Premiership for a return to Scotland and its four strenuous fixtures per season.
