World Cup 2018

Belgium have bags of talent but I think they are brittle mentally. I'd like to see what happens if they go behind in a game. The pressure won't really be on in this game but further on in the comp I expect them to implode. When they came up against Wales in the Euros when they went behind they fell apart. -

They've got what we desperately need - a playmaker in James and destroyer in Barrios. If we had those two in place of say Henderson and Loftus-Cheek we have more of a chance. They'll give anybody a game going off tonight's showing. -

Let's wait and see how we go on against a proper team before we get carried away. Transylvania and Treasure Island aren't a proper test. -

We were coasting then, just waiting for the final whistle. -

Pickford- not much to do apart from pick the ball out of the net. Not had a real save to make yet. Walker - bags of pace but only a brain fade away from a bad error. Stones- had a good tournament so far. Two terrific headers. McGuire - OK but I'm not totally convinced yet. Trippier- possibly our best player so far, set piece delivery is the best by any player. Lingard - brilliant goal but I'm not up there with Danny Murphy's glowing estimate of him. Henderson - steady on the ball but not as good as I would like at the defensive side of the game. Loftus-Cheek - quiet today. Young - not contributed much in two games. Kane - touched the ball about 10 times but has 5 goals to his name. Unstoppable penalties. Sterling - missed an absolute sitter of an header. Time for Rashford to get a chance. The three subs hardly had a significant effect on the game. -

I'd take a Big Sam team to gets us a result against Belgium more than I would a Southgate team. We're OK going forward but we look like conceding at the back even against the minnows like Panama. -

Panama pressed the self destruct button. We need to not get involved in the nasty tactics that may come along this half. -

We can't play walking football. -

Some teams make a habit of scoring late goals. That's not down to luck. It's down to having the right attitude, mental toughness, self belief and having confidence in your ability. -
I don't know, are they ? Talk is cheap, let's see some action. The Rothwell signing isn't going to break the bank.

I have a simple formula - the more rolls they do the less injured they are. -

You make your own luck in football. -
If the Chicken Chokers don't invest at this moment in time they never will.

He's not what we need.
-
Doesn't Alan Partridge work for them ?
-
Rhodes will be just what they need for next season's relegation battle.
-
A player like Rhodes wouldn't fit into our style of play. The dogs in the street know he's ineffectual playing up front as a lone striker like Graham does.
-
If you are judging modern day players on their sense of style and class you wouldn't be signing many. I used to wear jeans that had ripped a bit under my overalls. I've thrown them in the bin when they've got as bad as people wear to go out in today.
-
I can't say much about the other players on that list but the Daniels lad at Wigan was on loan at Rochdale and he was struggling in a team that came within an ace of being relegated. My Dale supporting friends weren't all that impressed.

He should have been booked for the dive. -
I could have told you that Armstrong won't be coming here permanently unless something changed. How smart do you have to be to realise that ?

Quite a few commentators pointing out how much more physical this competition is than the Premier League. That never used to be the case. Have we become too soft ? I prefer a bit of cut and thrust in the game personally. -
Players who never quite made it

I remember him playing for Australia against England in the old inside right style of position when he was still out in Holland. He ran England ragged. First time I ever saw him play, I thought he looked class that night. Regarding Bruce, Ledley King with two bad knees was a lot better. -
A team of grafters will only take you so far. You need the skill factor as well.
-
That's not a team that has me jumping out of my seat I'm afraid Mark. Centre midfield is too plodding and predictable. We need at least one of those three that can regularly get up and beyond the strikers. I can't see that in those three. Also I'm not sure Nyambe and Bell are creative enough to contribute enough from out wide for that system to work well. I agree with Mowbray we need to build slowly, a couple of good players every year. That's what Dyche has done down the road. He signs a couple of good players each year that go more or less straight into the first team. They'll do it again this close season. Piece by piece you end up with a good team. You could say Mowbray did that last year with Smallwood and Dack. The thing is these players we sign have to be good enough to hit the ground running and go into the first team right away. Signing back up players isn't the answer for us now we're playing at a higher level.
