Players who never quite made it

I don't know. He was offered terms at Rovers as a lad before he'd ever played for the first team, but he chose to go elsewhere. -

Franz Carr looked like becoming a world beating winger in his early days, he just never got any better as he got older. -

Robin Friday. I saw him play. He was a bit like Dack only thinner and a bit quicker. -
I've mentioned it before but I used to know a guy who played as a striker in the old First Division. He wasn't the most skilful player you ever saw by a long chalk but he really took care of his body. Real dedication. No fags or alcohol, late nights etc, he trained like his life depended on it and always gave 110%. Just a down to earth attitude that enabled him to have a good career at the top.

He's got the chance to make a name for himself at a serious level this season. If he gets his head down and concentrates on his football he could go a long way. Guys who can run with the ball and make things happen in the last third are priceless at any level of football.

Stan Bowles, Tony Currie, Rodney Marsh, Frank Worthington, Charlie George, Alan Hudson to name just a few. The list is a long one. The first time I saw Dack play for us I thought we've got a poor man's Rodney Marsh here.

Is English your first language ? I'm struggling a bit to make sense of the second sentence.

Probably. I was referring to the wage structure. It was fine for the league we were in, not so good for the league we will be in next season. -

We can't afford to splash that sort of money on a back up goalkeeper. -
I wouldn't.
-
I don't think he's a Premier League player.
-
Yeah, I agree. He lacks composure in front of goal, I'm not sure that can be taught. I think you either have it or you don't. He needs about 5 good chances for every goal he scores, the way we play that isn't going to happen often. He's never going to be a prolific goalscorer unless something changes. Jason Roberts was equally numb In front of goal. He was alright when it required an instinctive reaction but when he had time to think about it his head went.

I'm a big fan of Johnno also. I'm not sure he's management material yet but I think he'd make a cracking first team coach. Somebody will take a punt on him if he carries on being so successful. -

Only saw the second half but we've no cutting edge. I can't remember their goalie having to make a save. -

No, good player but not that good. -
Not for me.

I liked Southgate as a player, good honest pro. Seems like a nice bloke as well. Just not manager material in my opinion although it'd be great if he proves me wrong with England. -

In fact you could almost say the more England caps you got the worse you were as a manager. Didn't Geoff Hurst have a spell managing Chelsea ? -
Mm, Conway or Pilkington, give me a second to choose.
-
I understood we have a couple of good young left backs coming into the reckoning. I'm ambivalent about Williams, he's not Championship standard in any position.

Have you ever heard anybody speak well about Bono ?
-
Unless it has the " Chaddy " stamp of approval it's just a rumour.

Big Brad was the best goalie we've ever had and at his peak one of the top two in the world but he wasn't the greatest at coming out for crosses either. I think that's how goalies are these days, they're taught to stay on their line and leave the crosses to the centre halves. That's ok if your centre halves are commanding the air.

People need to remember Raya was struggling with a groin strain style problem at the end of the season. Let's see what his kicking is like when that's been cured.
