  1. I think Gyokeres would be obtainable if we had the finances available. That only happens by us selling an asset. If Diaz were to leave in January Gyokeres would be top of my list as a replacement.
  2. This theory of us missing the physicality of Travis in the middle isn't accurate in my opinion. We have a style of play where we try to play the ball out from the back and that isn't going to change. The games we get overrun in isn't because of the lack of a tough tackling midfielder it's because we are constantly losing the ball in the middle of the park once the backline try to play it forwards. We need players in the middle of the park who are comfortable with the ball at their feet.
  3. I think he'd be a cracking signing. And realistic. In terms of January I think two positions could really push us forwards. Obviously a striker. Ideally someone who can bully defenders like Kenan Davies did for Forest. We seem to struggle when our midfield is pressed. As the alternative to a central pass is playing into the feet of one of our forwards with their back to goal. If that player can't make the ball stick (Vale, Hirst) then we have no plan B. Second position would be another central midfielder who is comfortable on the ball, but can mix it up a bit. As much as I like Travis he is a bit of a weak link for us. And we do miss Wharton and we can't relay on him to carry the team at such a young age. It's a wishlist that won't be easy to fill, but there are players out there. Especially if we looked at the loan market.
  4. Think JDT got it wrong tonight. Travis shoe horned into the side at right back, putting Brittain onto the left made us completely unbalanced. It worked once before because we had Hedges as a threat from the right. But tonight it just left our two best players in the same area of the pitch and everything going down that side. Easy to defend against.
  5. I said give Hirst a chance at half time. Mainly because there were few other options, Vale was terrible and he had to be given a chance at some point. He was just as bad as Vale and I really don't see a future for him here. Lack of depth is going to cost us this year. So frustrating that Diaz is out of contract in the summer as he leaves such a huge hole. We need to give Dack a chance as another option if Gallagher isn't available. When the alternatives are Vale and Hirst, there are no alternatives.
  6. Need Brittain on the right. Our two best players are too close to each other. And Dack on for Szmodics
  7. As poor as he's been to date I'd bring Hirst on. Vale has been like playing with 10 men. He showed in his cameo against Hull that he has some ability. But he really needs to hit the gym to play at this level. He can't play with his back to goal, the ball doesn't stick and it's like playing with 10 men. That or stick Dacky up top with Diaz. I'd also get Pickering on, Brittain to RB and Trav in midfield. Not sure which of the 3 in midfield to take off.
  8. Huge game tonight. If we can get the 3 points then I'd fancy us back at Ewood against Huddersfield. Regardless of Burnley result we'd go into the World Cup break in an outstanding position. If we win tonight then the Burnley game will be a top of the league decider. Exciting times.
  9. Panic does crazy things to football clubs and their owners. Put simply 15 million is still not a huge amount for a lot of Premier League clubs. 15 million for a better shot at survival and a proven championship striker if you do go down is a no brainer. In addition, he's continued to prove himself. Its not outside the realms of possibility.
  10. There's a Bradley Dack - stick or twist thread. How about you try and keep the Dack chat in there Chaddy. I've been as guilty as anyone at responding to you, but you're swamping up half this message board with Dack chat on about 3 or 4 different threads. Where your opinion goes against the grain people keep biting. So yes it takes two to tango, but if you specifically made an effort to contain it to that thread it would do the messageboard a lot of good.
  11. It's ridiculous. As is the reactive nature of the club and authorities. From the start of the season Coventry should have either forfeited the games or been made to play at a neutral ground or away from home. If this was highlighted earlier I'm sure all opposition teams would have been able to host the games.
  12. He played 7 minutes against Wigan. That's clutching at straws even by your standards Chaddy. Of the other 3 games you've quoted the team generally played quite well at Stoke but lost. He certainly wasn't a burden to the team. As you say he was good against Blackpool and played 45 minutes against Reading, when as a team we were generally terrible. If we're taking your sample as evidence. He's played 2.5 games, not 4 and was excellent in 1 of those, average in another and played 45 minutes and was as poor as the rest of his teammates against Reading. It's a pitiful sample size for starters as he's not been given a fair chance. And in your pitiful sample he's shown that he has worth.
  13. It's difficult to focus purely on football with this World Cup. The human rights abuses are impossible to ignore and thats without mentioning how ludicrous it is to have it in the middle of the domestic season. I will watch it and hope it can be a catalyst for change, though if I'm being perfectly honest with myself, that is a slight excuse to ignore my own moral compass, which really is telling me I and all football fans should really be boycotting.
  14. Dacky lives a good life given the contract he's had with Rovers. But that's not the be all and end all. It's clear to me that above anything, Bradley Dack loves playing football. Those random football quizzes our social media team did years ago, he was one of the most knowledgeable. He's said before that all he does in his spare time is watch football. He loves the game and you could see the devastation his injuries caused him. Being paid well doesn't mean everything. He's going to look back on his career one day and he'll want to look back at it favourably. He won't want the pinnacle to be a league 1 promotion, then years in the wilderness. He's had very little opportunity. Just over 4 games worth. And in some of those games we've been in that mode where the attackers are isolated as our defence are dilly dallying with it. Like someone else has said you constantly say not to dismiss players, yet you've written him off completely. Loyalty does go both ways and what Dack has done for this club shouldn't be forgotten. Yes he shouldn't be kept just for sentimentality, but we've all seen how much he can offer. He's a wonderful footballer, who deserves a chance and a bit of time rather than being written off as you are doing. I sincerely hope we keep him in January and he forces his way into JDTs plans. If its not worked out by the end of the season a split would be best for all parties.
  15. It's been a thought of mine. The wage bill must be tiny in comparison to what it was when we had Holtby, Downing and about 1000 other midfielders. Though I don't the BBD will see it drop too much. He's not signed a new contract since he first came in and I don't think it was a huge one at that point. I'd far rather see us push the boat out and spend some of those wages on keeping him. He's worth pushing the boat out for. In reality though, I do think that is wishful thinking. That boat has probably sailed.
  16. Certain managers suit certain teams. We've had managers in the past who were great operating on shoe string budget, but then made mad choices as soon as they had a few pennies to spend. I don't think Pep would do too well with lesser players. But at the same time i think he does a phenomenal job with the ones he has. The domination City have had, the levels they've set is something to behold. With the money they have it is expected, but the level of consistency they've found under Pep isn't easy.
  17. Pretty easy answer to the thread question for me. Stick. We're not going to fetch much of a transfer fee for Dacky right now. Without playing first team football no club is going to take that kind of financial risk on him. He has shown flashes of ability but not been given a chance in the first team. The best solution from the clubs perspective would be keep him on and see if he can break into the first team by the end of the season. If not, then it would be time to part ways. A lot depends on him. If he's willing to get the bit between his teeth and prove JDT wrong, then it's possible. I can see him wanting out asap though.
  18. Almost sounds racist. If not racist, extremely judgemental from the old dinosaur. Who is he to say, we've had lads like you before. I'd just be sitting there thinking, you don't even know me.
  19. Qpr are looking like a very good side who are gathering momentum. I don't think they had clicked yet when we played them on the opening day. I fancy them to be in the top six. Main thing that can derail them is lack of depth. They have two of the best number 10's in the league with Willock and Chair who both work their socks off every game. Willock seems very injury prone though.
  20. I remember the history well but in my head Big Club has become such a synonymous knickname for Birmingham i assumed fans of other clubs called them this as well. Forgot it was due to us buying Savage.
  21. Biggest thing from Rovers is that even when struggling on the ball we look like we are becoming an outstanding unit defensively. Even when we look poor we're getting better at restricting opportunities when the opposition is dominating. We're most vulnerable when we're trying to play it out from the back. I'm hoping that having 3 in midfield gives more options to our back line and we give it away in dangerous situations less. In addition to being able to link the defence and forwards better. Dom Hyam is the man. Best defender we've had since Phil Jones. And after Diaz our biggest asset. We've completely pulled Coventrys pants down with his signing. No coincidence to see them struggling so much without him.
  22. Thought Szmodics was decent tonight. Big difference seeing him in midfield compared to when he is up top as he is terrible with his back to goal.
  23. Can see why the ref didn't give them the penalty shout. The direction of the ball suggested Hedges got a touch on it. The angle from behind the goal shows he didn't though and we got lucky. What a strike by Diaz though. Absolute quality. It's been quite an even half. Feel like Wharton has seen way too much of the ball. All our midfield 3 seem to favour being central or slightly to the right and its leaving him with only one outball in Brittain. Garrett has been decent but I'd like to see Adam Wharton on at half time. He'd drop into that space more naturally and give more balance. Touching on our summer recruitment. The two defensive players in Brittain and Hyam are fantastic.
  24. It was good to see what Gallagher can do when played central. I also think he benefited from being central with a strike partner in Diaz. His lack of technical quality does mean that he can struggle even when played centrally if he's on his own. He needs other players close to him. The formation yesterday needs to be persisted with. Gally and Diaz up top and personally I can even see Dack slotting in there too as part of a 2 with the instructions to stick close to his strike partner. Not that we'll ever see that mind since he's seemingly being frozen out.
