Tomasson always struck me as an intelligent player. Not blisteringly quick, nor strong. Good technically but not one to stand out. What did stand out was his strikers instincts and reading of the game.

It's no wonder Nicko loves a bit of Rovers gossip. We're so bloody slow making decisions it gives him around 6 weeks' worth of writing in comparison to about 2 weeks worth at any normal club!

Are we sure that the odds on Ferguson / Unsworth shortening are not down to the rumours about Walsh coming in and Farke officially being ruled out? Something doesn't add up. All signs pointed to a DoF not being linked to the manager search, both in club statements and a headhunting agency being used for the DoF. Walsh doesn't automatically suggest Ferguson to me. What it does suggest is that Waggot and Suhail are struggling and have missed out on their top targets. All communications suggested the DoF would come in after a managerial appointment, and now the DoF is starting next week. That seemed down to design and not the availability of candidates. I think they're desperate for some help, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a few new names plucked out the hat as a result now that there could be new input into the managerial search. I'm hoping this 'bank holiday' shut down has been to allow the DoF to get set up, Monday he'll be unveiled and first thing on the agenda is discussing where we're up to in the interview process. We have no idea. Walsh may not be a fan of Ferguson or Unsworth. He's got a good track record in the game, so I'm willing to give Walsh a show of faith rather than assuming it's "jobs for the boys." If Ferguson does come in, my hope would be that our new DoF who's worked his way up in the game is able to give a glowing endorsement, having worked with him first hand. That would make me more comfortable with Ferguson as a manager. The big thing this club has been missing over the years is footballing knowledge at Ewood that isn't strategically placed to strengthen Mowbrays position at the club. That and a quick sign off to Venkys, enabling fast decisions. A good DoF would bring half of that, and Ferguson or not, I hope Walsh is key to the managerial appointment.

I think a managed like Farke would give us a real chance of promotion. Especially if working in tandem with a decent DoF.

Because his teams play simple basic hoof-ball. There's a reason Manning is linked with better jobs after a shorter period. Because it's easier to see his methodologies translating to a higher level. I don't subscribe to there being only one way to play football but the way Ainsworth sets his teams up means that in the eyes of many there is a ceiling to his capabilities.

On field not really. But you can't deny there is a culture there and a plan that is sorely missing here. They have been in recovery for a long time since Tony Fernandes has his pants pulled down when he first bought the club. They were the definition of overpaid mercenaries chasing one last pay day.

Someone needs to get that article in front of the Venkys. Not that it would achieve much. But that demonstrates everything that we are not. Incidentally Qpr are a great point of comparison for us right now. Both of us looked set for at least the playoffs. Both have a good few youth players in the first team. Similar budgets and both in need of a manager this summer to build on managers who had begun to stagnate. It'll be interesting to see the fortunes of us both after this pivotal summer.

I really don't understand multiple interviews. A mangers entire cv is so easy for any average Joe to research. Then anybody who works inside football shouldn't find it remotely difficult to ask a few people who have worked with them in the past for references. Then the manager comes in. Its about feel, vision, priorities. I'm certain I'd be able to conduct interviews with managers and make the best pick in a single interview. With zero prep. Let alone the amount of prep which Waggot et al should be doing. The big question for me if I were a manager interviewing for the Rovers job would be; what on earth are they going to ask me second time round, that they couldn't have asked me initially. It's amateur hour. I'm out.

The quotes from Farke and reports from Germany do suggest he has a better offer on the table. I don't think Rich Sharpe really has a clue though. Especially if Farke has come into the frame via a different avenue as Glen suggested. It would be classic Venkys though to have identified their man and not put their full weight behind bringing him in. They do need to realise that a manager is one place you can't scrimp. Vision and budgets are important. But if you're looking to save 500k then the manager isn't the place to do it. It's been mentioned too. Surely DoF should come in first. We will have to hope that whoever does come in as a DoF is completely independent from the manager. Otherwise we'll have another Mowbray - Waggot situation.

Mowbray took us on a journey but forgot his map. And when he realised we were lost decided that we were never going to disneyland in the first place. A family with our budget should be happy with a trip to Hull.

My feeling is some people like to stick the boot into Liverpool fans. The "always the victim" tagline. From all I've seen the evidence is pointing directly at the French authorities, with the fans being subject to awful treatment. Had there been a less tolerant reaction it could have resulted in a far more serious incident occurring.

I'm not sure McBride was ever the calibre some suggested. Alot of it was based on the amount he scored at that level, however it was majorly padded out with penalties. Nuttall had goals at senior level which is what resulted in a cash sale which I belive we were extremely lucky to get. Players at that level often go for minimal fees and a sell on % McBrides future was his for the taking. If he didn't cut it at Queens Park I don't think he would have done at League 1 level. At most we'd have received a sell on fee. If we had we'd have still been unlikely to see anything from him in the future. Edit - Best of luck to him. It can't be easy being released. And hopefully he'll have the talent to forge a career in the game. I'm just not sure it is at championship level.

Mowbray should not have been spending some of our budget on Pears. Its clear that his dad had an influence on his signing. I want to make that clear first. However... I do think people are overly harsh on him. To me he strikes me as a confidence goalkeeper but there is some potential there. I was at Bournemouth away and he was fantastic. As much to do with us winning the 3 points as any other player on the pitch. Wigan in the cup he was obviously horrendous and single handedly cost us the game. The confidence drained out of him after his first mistake. He's not as all round terrible as people make out. But we spent money on a position which wasn't needed and reportedly a salary that is far elevated over his position in the team. It's no wonder someone like Nyambe isn't happy. The fact he's Mowbrays mates son means he attracts criticism. If he came through our youth team we'd be saying he's got potential but needs to build his confidence.

Like a previous poster said. Reducing it to only Son and Park is extreme. We also have our own potential first team star in Dilan Markanday that you are overlooking. There hasn't been as much representation from Asian countries/communities at the top, top level of football, I will agree with you there but to say its a total waste of time as a talent finding exercise is wrong. I think what you have said is narrow minded and whether you're aware of what you've said I'm not sure, but I do not like the undertones. You saying its a waste of time implies there is no talent out there. Do you not think that the lack of top level talent at the top might be down to a lack of inclusion at a grass roots level? It's this kind of attitude which adds to Football not being an inclusive place. Again I think it's a great initiative. Actions speak louder than words and we are doing excellently in that respect. It places the club at the heart of the community and as a link and a place for people to come together. From a footballing perspective it also means we are very visibly showing we are an inclusive club and the talent which will be there if given the opportunity to shine, will be shining in the blue and white halves.

Mbappe is an elite player in my opinion. What he has done by staying on at Psg though is he's not truly testing himself. Otherwise it will remain merely in peoples opinions as he's not truly putting himself to the test. Why let money talk when you're making that much anyway. He could have gone anywhere and his legacy would be his to create. Instead he'll keep tearing up the French leagues whilst sitting in his comfort zone.

Making sure it is not isolated to one off events. Behind the scenes we so often wonder what individuals are up to, with a complete lack of creativity or effort being shown (more in the marketing areas of the club). It's great to see the club taking the initiative here and try to make meaningful connections. I think somebody mentioned the name of the person at the club who has been heading a lot of this. Its a great example to follow.

It's the difference between advertising a job and head hunting. I find it so, so strange that Rovers talk about applicants and interview/recruitment processes. This isn't a job at a local business. This is the manager of a football club. Any candidates suitable of the position will have their entire career available with a quick bit of research by an average Joe. They shouldn't have to be actively putting their names forwards. To me it's why we've so often relied on managers from one agency. Not because we are bound to them, but because there's so little internal knowledge at the club that it's the only way we source a candidate.

There's a few managers being suggested that'd certainly be an improvement on Mowbray. It's actually quite exciting. Dangerous I know consider the erratic nature of us choosing managers in the past. I'm glad we're rolling the dice. I only hope we don't self destruct.

Mowbray has frustrated at times, both with his tactics/results and then his demeanour and interviews when things are going badly. We were held together too long by owners not willing to make tough decisions and tensions became inevitable. The fans and Mowbray were like a couple staying together due to circumstance and not love. Even the smallest gripe becomes a huge issue. Now we have clarity I for one think thanks is owed. We are in a better place than when he took over. There may be a division in the fanbase but it is a far cry from how fractured it was under Coyle. The promotion was a success, even if expected and for the first time we saw players playing for the shirt again. Dacky, Graham, Mulgrew and Mowbray. It was a good time and I believe they all cared. Its the minimum one should expect but something Rovers fans had been deprived of and it felt great to be able to support the club again. Over time I think he's become jaded and when you know you're not accountable for your results it's difficult to be 100% That and the fact he has been the clubs mouthpiece for so long, his ramblings have been bizarre at times and even slightly insulting. Overall I do think his heart has been in the right place though. It has been a journey. Not always a particularly progressive one but the stability he has brought was needed for the first 3 years of his reign. So a thank you Tony Mowbray from me, best of luck in the future, you've done your best and in my opinion left the club in a better place than you found it.

I think it's as simple as Venkys working to a different timescale to the football world and are probably very confused what all the fuss is about. I'm certain in their eyes Mowbray has a contract until the end of June, so why the rush. That's the deadline they are working to rather than the end of the season and now they've had to look for a spot in their calendars which suits all so they can schedule in a chat with him. Urgency is not a word which registers with our owners. Aside from agents taking advantage of them in the early days it's one of the biggest things holding the club back.

They were absolute stunners

He's playing a good game and looking after himself. Its a win, win situation for Mowbray. He's framed things so if he's not offered a new contract he is leaving on his terms. He'll be able to say he did x, y, z. Culture this, foundations etc and that he wasn't sacked. He can even say the owners wanted him to stay on. They're that far removed from the football World he can say they begged him to stay and nobody would be any the wiser. On the other hand he has very clearly left the door open just enough to not burn bridges if a new contract is incoming. Can't blame him either really. It's his career. He's protecting his future earning potential and Venkys have allowed him to control the narrative with their continued silence. Its even reached a point now whereby he's so in control of that narrative that should they want him to stay, he'll know there is no plan for his departure and he can demand what he wants. If he worked in any other industry I'd be applauding him.

I think Ainsworth is a motivational bloke at lower levels but as soon as he is up against those with something about them he'll be found out. I'm also a little uncomfortable with somebody coming in who's such a huge Rovers fan. I feel he'd just be incredibly grateful to be here and it may silence his voice if things need to be told straight. Yes I want someone who respects our history as a club but I'm not sure he's the one. Primarily I want someone who is just going to win football matches.
