    The Price Is Right

Tomorrow’s game against Bolton, is a big test for the future of football, especially in Blackburn. A failure by supporters to respond to the clubs ticket reduction initiative for the game against Bolton, could have a major impact on future pricing of football. The football world will be watching to see how successful Rovers initiative has affected attendances. A high turn out could result in reduced pricing throughout the league, however a poor response could result in inflated costs, as clubs attempt to balance their finances. How can supporters in the future ever legitimately complain again and blame ticket pricing as the reason for not attending, if they do not take up the clubs offer of reduced ticket prices for a local derby. It is now down to supporters to prove that if The Price is Right attendances will increase. Rovers v Bolton Sunday. ticket prices Adults £15 Seniors £5 Juniors £5

  7. Despite conceeding a first half deflected goal, against the run of play, Rovers bounced back to win their away UEFA Cup match against Wisla. 2-1, with second half goals from Savage in the 56th min and Bentley in the 89th min.
  8. PREVIEW BY WISLA KRAKOW SUPPORTER.- ALBIONUS Blackburn Rovers clashes Wisła Kraków in UEFA Cup Group Stage. Time: 19th October, 16.45 CET Place: Kraków, 22 Reymonta Street, at Wisla’s Stadium („Stadion Wisły”) Supporters of both clubs pay much attention to this match, both hoping their team to reach a good score at thursday evening. For polish fans there is much clear with whom they will compete, as Premiership is one of the best known leagues in the world. But fans from UK cannot see the opponent on TV or read about east-european football in newspapers. The question arises – who really Wisla is and what should Rovers expect from the game in Kraków. Let’s get a few facts from history first. Wisła has been established in 1906, the same as its local rival Cracovia. Both are considered to be the oldest polish clubs. Before the II WW and in communist times won polish league title 5 times. The club took part in international competions too– biggest succes was quaterfinal of champion’s cup in 1978/79 season. 10. Was with someone at the reserves last night and he didnt know about any of the cheep ticket matches. Cheeky sod now wants lift for himself, his mate and his lad.
  11. A spectacular strike by Rostyn Griffiths just before half time was enough to secure all 3 points for the Rovers reserves tonight against Everton reserves. Whilst Derbyshire and De Vito had been a constant threat to the Everton defence all night, it was Griffiths who broke the dead lock just before half time. Collecting the ball about 20 yards out, on the right hand side, Griffiths in one movement turned and volley a thunderous shot into the top left hand corner of the Everton net. With the defence marshalled by the experienced Henchoz and Matteo, Enckelman in the Rovers goal was rarely threatened all night, whilst the solid Taylor broke down the left to link up with Olsson at every available opportunity. Apart from the central defenders this was a young and inexperienced Rovers side, yet they were seldom troubled by Everton, serving up a polished and professional display of attacking football, that deserved more than one single goal. Rovers res 1 Everton res 0 Attendance 320.
  12. Craig Bellamy's 63min goal, cancelled out Benni McCarthy's 17th min goal to give Liverpool a share of the points this afternoon. Rovers went in at half time leading 1-0 thanks to a 17th min goal by Benni McCarthy who right-footed in from 12 yards, a right wing cross from David Bentley into the bottom left hand corner of the Liverpool net. However former Rover striker Bellamy, who had been left unmarked headed home Liverpool's equalizer in the 63 min. Although Rovers could have snatched all 3 points in the dieing stages when Bentleys shot was pushed on to the post by Reina and out for a corner. player analasys by cocker Ok, here is what I thought about yesterday. Brad: Awesome - so glad he was passed fit Ooijer - Best game for us so far - did his job well Zura - I like him allot - did well again Neill - seemed to drift off from time to time - will put it down to travel Bert - He continues to surprise me - WELL DONE BERT Bentley - mostly good however, I wish he would take his man on sometimes. Savage - Did his normal solid job - lucky not to be sent off (I dont care what anyone says) Tugay - Looked wrecked. Needs Reid to come back and give the old horse a break Pedersen - Unfair to totally slate him. He seemed to do quite a bit of team work yesterday rather than take all of the glory McCarthy - I like him more and more each game - bargain buy for us really - well done on him becoming a Daddy this week too Nonda - His work rate is awesome and he was taking a couple of Liverpool players away with him each time he moved leaving Benni with a bit more room. He is a very intelligent player. I am glad that Hughes has the headache of playing him or Roberts with Benni (I am leaving Jeffers out of this) Subs Axe - cant complain - did what had been asked of him Gallagher - I was raging with him on occasion (you didn't see him just stood around with his hands on his hips on Football First) I just kept looking at him in disbelief thinking that he had fresh legs and he was trying to push his way in the team - I was wrong - he didn't look arsed. Roberts - I like him - he held the ball up superbly. Other things:- Bellemy - Not all Rovers fans booed him - just a few. Thanks to Bellers really for not taking the mick out of us for the minority that gave him stick (He scored a goal for Liverpool - so what, its his job - did anyone really think he wouldn't score against us to say thankyou or something - I thank him for giving us Benni anyway) Mark Hughes's post match comments "You expect to come under pressure at Anfield but we coped and we restricted them to a few chances. Late on we might have even stolen the win. "I was delighted with the performance. I thought some of our play was really progressive - you have to be brave in and out of possession. "We created Liverpool problems, getting out wide and putting in crosses." Liverpool: Reina, Finnan, Hyypia, Carragher, Aurelio, Pennant (Luis Garcia 53), Alonso, Gerrard, Riise, Crouch, Bellamy. Subs Not Used: Dudek, Gonzalez, Paletta, Zenden. Booked: Hyypia. Goals: Bellamy 64. Rovers: Friedel, Emerton, Ooijer, Khizanishvili, Neill, Bentley, Savage, Tugay (Mokoena 72), Pedersen (Gallagher 72), McCarthy (Roberts 80), Nonda. Subs Not Used: Brown, McEveley. 13. Despite conceding an early goal, Rovers bounced back against Wigan this afternoon to claim all 3 points. Heskey's early goal was cancelled out by David Bentley goal just before half time. Despite dominating the second half, Rovers conceded a penalty, however substitute keeper Jason Brown, making his premiership debut, made a triple save to keep Rovers level before Roberts and McCarthy linked to allow McCarthy to get Rovers winning goal. match report by Blue blood What a game, though it didn't do my nerves any good. The contrast between the first and second halves was immense in my game. In the first we were shocking, in the second we were excellent. For some reason we weren't at the races in the first half, which I think was down to complacancy after our excellent performance on thursday night. (I would've written a post on that but I reckon that excellent sums up the performance vs Salzberg.) The first five minutes weren't bad - bar a soft goal that we gave away, as we had a couple of dangerous attacking moves. After that we really were awful misplaced passes, giving the wigan players too much room, struggling to compete for the ball. It really was rovers at their worst. Nice as the move for our equaliser was I'm sure every rovers fan in the ground was amazed that we were going in at half time on level terms. To be honest we really didn't deserve to be, but it did give us a great starting point for the second half. If it had have been 0-1 Wigan may have defended that bit deeper and made it more difficult, as it was we had a great chance to push on. I'm not sure what Hughes said at half time but it did the trick, and rovers were excellent and all over them in the second half. I thought everyone did well battling for the ball and only have 3 gripes about an otherwise impressive second half display. 1) we don't take enough of the mountain of chances we made (perhaps the same could be said of in the Salzberg game.) 2) In a similar vein there were several times a bit more directness would've done wonders. We had several runs where the player should have had a go or kept pushing forward but stopped and laid it off. 3) Ooijer and Zurab look very shakey, especially Ooijer. What a stupid penalty to give away. What Hughes sees in him is beyond me - get rid quick he doesn't look up to the physical nature of the premiership. An excellent debute by Brown - who'se penalty double save really kept us in it. If that'd have gone in I doubt we'd have won given our wasteful nature in front of goal. The lad made another good save too, and his distribution seemed good as well - man of the match in my oppinion. Up front especially we look very strong. Nonda, Roberts and McCarthy all look threatening, and Jeffers is showing signs of why he was once so highly rated. Jeffers really seems to lack that confidence that is so important for a striker. The full backs again looked good. As did all the midfield, although we really need to strengthen here with at least one if not two quality players. The options on the bench aren't that great when compaired to our striking options for example. All in all an excellent game showing the highs and lows of supporting rovers. It was also a great game for the neutral and it was a real shame not more people witnessed it. Overall we deserved the three points as we created much more in our dominant half than wigan did. Mark Hughes on Jason Brown: "Jason came in and did exceptionally well. It was a great debut. "It is important when you get the opportunity you try to take it and Jason did exceptionally well in that respect. "I always knew Jason had potential and it was a big decision when he came here because he could have gone as a first-choice keeper at a lower level. "But he has got great confidence in his own ability and he feels he can make it at the very top level - and you would not argue with that on today's performance." Rovers: Friedel (Brown 45), Emerton, Ooijer, Khizanishvili, Neill, Bentley, Savage, Tugay (Mokoena 70), Pedersen, McCarthy, Jeffers (Roberts 70). Subs Not Used: Gallagher, McEveley. Booked: Jeffers, Ooijer, Mokoena. Goals: Bentley 45, McCarthy 81. Wigan: Kirkland, Boyce, Jackson, De Zeeuw, Baines, Landzaat, Scharner, Valencia (Teale 67), Kilbane (McCulloch 74), Heskey, Camara (Todorov 64). Subs Not Used: Pollitt, Johansson. Booked: Scharner, Kilbane, Baines, Landzaat. Goals: Heskey 2. Att: 17,859. Ref: H Webb
  14. Whilst it’s easy to condemn the greed throughout the game, from players through to the authorities that run the game, Rovers should be commended in their initiative of being one of the first clubs in reducing ticket prices. With the continued success under Mark Hughes, Rovers are virtually playing two games a week, and whilst many clubs would have cashed in on this success, the Rovers Board are giving something back to football supporters. Where else in England would the fans get to see European Cup football for £7.50* a game. However it doesn’t stop there, the club have also reduced prices for next Sundays local derby against Bolton and the Carling Cup game against Premiership Champions, Chelsea. If you’re a Rovers fan or a neutral football fan, how can you miss live European or premiership football at a price on par with or even below League 2 match day prices. *SPECIAL OFFER to season ticket holders. Purchase a ticket for both home UEFA Cup games at £15(£7.50 per game) Next Sunday Rovers entertain Bolton in the Premiership, when ticket prices will be. Adults £15 Seniors £5 Juniors £5
