  1. Despite a spirited second half fight back, 10 man Rovers failed to pick up any points against Newcastle at Ewood this afternoon. A lack lustre first half display by Rovers resulted in them going in 2 – 0 and a man down after Henchoz was sent off in the 40th minute for a professional foul. Newcastle took the lead on the half hour mark through Martin and increased their advantage 5 minutes later through Taylor. In the 40 minute things went from bad to worst for Rovers, when Henchoz was controversially sent off for a professional foul. Rovers came out for the second half full of battling spirit and were rewarded with a goal within a minute of the restart when Pedersen curled in a shot from 30 yards. However despite their spirited fight back the equalizing goal never arrived and with the final whistle looming Rovers threw everyone up front, including Friedel for a corner. Unfortunately the ball broke for Newcastle and with the Rovers goal unattended, Martins slotted in his second of the afternoon and Newcastles third. Final Score Rovers 1 Newcastle 3.

  3. Match comments from preston blue says it all. I've been in London for a few days and only got home late last night after a journey from hell. I do not go to all away league games but I appear to hit the dregs with the games this season with games which have included Pompey and West Ham. The Charlton game took the biscuit; we were dreadful, the players were a disgrace to the b&w shirt and the performance was an insult to those few hardy souls who travelled to The Valley; we blame tv, cost and match timing etc for falling attendances but lets be blunt with the sh@t the Rovers have churnned out in recent weeks who can blame the fans for deserting for more entertaining fare such as pushing a trolley around Tesco. Where do we start? Well I am not to to analyse the performance of each player; there was no passion and no fight and we had no strength in depth. Charlton were god awful...unfortunately we are even worse, we had a side out which would struggle in the Championship. May I have a refund please; do not send me a credit note as this will offend. Charlton: Carson, Young, El Karkouri, Hreidarsson, Traore (Diawara 26), Sam (Marcus Bent 71), Hughes, Faye, Kishishev (Holland 88), Reid, Darren Bent. Subs Not Used: Myhre, Rommedahl. Booked: Hughes. Goals: El Karkouri 9 Rovers: Friedel, Neill, Ooijer, Henchoz, Gray, Emerton (Peter 62), Savage, Bentley (Tugay 46), Pedersen (Gallagher 46), Nonda, McCarthy. Subs Not Used: Brown, Mokoena. 4. Rovers claimed their first premiership win; since their 2-1 home defeat of Wigan on the 1st October, with a 2-0 win against Fulham this afternoon, thanks to first half goals by Nonda and McCarthy. Rovers took the lead in the 5th minute when Shabani Nonda with his back to goal, turned and flicked on a Stephane Henchoz long ball past the stranded Lastuvka, in the Fulham goal. Rovers went further ahead in the 24th minute when Benni McCarthy controlled a long ball from Lucas Neill, to chip a looping shot towards goal, that was deflected off Ian Pearce into the Fulham net. Pedersen could have increased Rovers lead just after the half hour mark, however he saw his curling left foot shot from the centre of the goal mouth go past the left hand post. Half Time Rovers 2 Fulham 0. Within 10 minutes of the restart Rovers again came close, when Emerton and Neill combined down the right, however Emerton pass to his Australian comrade was hit straight into Lastuvka’s arms by Lucas Neill. With 3 minutes remaining Fulham came close when Friedel had to react for the first time during the afternoon to palm away a hard driven free kick from Claus Jensen. With time ticking down, Benni McCarthy was replaced by Matt Derbyshire as the tanoy announced McCarthy as the Peter Jackson Man of the Match. Full Time Rovers 2 Fulham 0 Rovers: Friedel, Neill, Henchoz, Ooijer, Gray, Emerton, Savage, Bentley (Mokoena 85), Pedersen, Nonda (Peter 81), McCarthy (Derbyshire 89). 5. Rovers ensured qualification to the knock out stage of the UEFA Cup for the first time, with a 0-0 draw against Feyenoord this evening in Rotterdam. Meanwhile the other 2 teams in their group, Nancy and Basel ended their game with 2 goals each. match comment from den Without going into the stats, the overwhelming feeling I got at the game, was that rovers won their point fairly easily. Maybe it's different watching it on telly - maybe you are more on edge than when you're actually there. I'm usually the pessimistic one, but Feyenoord never looked good enough to win this. They could have got lucky if one of the goalmouth scrambles had dropped kindly for them, but they simply were very poor throughout. As for rovers, well we only did what we had to do. This team certainly needs big money spending on it ASAP, because central mids of quality don't come cheap. As for the wingers, well neither of them has any pace and neither of them can get to the bye-line. That's a bigger problem than it might seem IMO. However, a job done quite easily. Feyenoord: Timmer, Tiendalli, Andre Bahia, Greene, Drenthe, Buys, Hofs (De Guzman 77), Lucius, Kolkka (Boussaboun 65), Charisteas, Huysegems. Subs Not Used: Mulder, Derijck, Van Hooijdonk, Pardo, Leonard. Booked: Lucius, Drenthe. Rovers: Friedel, Emerton, Ooijer, Khizanishvili, Gray, Pedersen, Savage, Tugay (Mokoena 81), Bentley, McCarthy (Peter 90), Nonda (Jeffers 69). Subs Not Used: Brown, Todd, Gallagher, McEveley. Booked: Savage. Att: 35,000. Ref: Knut Kircher BBC Match Report
  6. Could be connected with Mark Hughes Concerned with Take Overs Quote from Hughes. 'We are in a group of clubs that have a certain level that we can go up to, and there is a certain quality of player we aspire to bring to the club but can't do because of finances. 'The situation here is that any money generated is ploughed back into the club and is not taken out by shareholders, so that's one benefit. 'But the gap between the clubs who have huge financial backing is getting bigger so it will be more difficult for clubs such as Blackburn. 'But you just have to work hard with what you have got, and that improves you as a manager and a coach.'

    Newcastle Preview.

Preview by ihatethedingles Saturday 9th December see's two teams meet who should be further up the table then they currently are. This is very early in the season to be saying this but this is a 6-pointer even with the barcodes win last night over Reading reality of it is simple, they need points, we need points. At the start of the season this fixture would have been looked upon as being as fixture between two top-half teams both in the Uefa Cup. Instead it is a bottom half of the table scrap between two sides distracted by the Uefa Cup and ravaged with injury problems. Both sides have a host of names missing from their squads with us missing players like Ryan Nelsen, Steven Reid, Jason Roberts, Zurab Khizanishvili and Francis Jeffers, could probably add Brett Emerton to that list now. Newcastle have players like Shola Ameobi and Michael Owen missing indefinately and with having injury prone players like Damien Duff in their squad, they were tempting fate with an injury crisis. Both sides campaigns this season have been blighted by injuries and with fully fit squads, both teams should make their way back up the table. After Tuesday's pathetic performance down at the Valley, we need a big performance against the barcodes, players like Gamst and IMO Benni who i don't see what all the fuss is about, need to step their game up. Gamst looks like he cannot be bothered anymore, he looks tired and he looks like he has no desire. As for Benni, the guy never gets in the box to get on the end of a cross and is constantly being caught offside. On Saturday, Benni should have no excuse for getting caught offside as Newcastle's defence has to be one of the worst in the league. Big Titus Bramble is a big strong but slow centre half, a player with a slight bit of upper body strength and some pace can make a fool out of him, here's hoping Benni can do that. Although Bramble may not even be fit for the match as he missed Newcastle's superb win over Reading, coming for 1-2 down to win 3-2. The Bardcodes are relying on a blend of youth and experience to get them through their problems with players like Ramage, Taylor, Huntington, Pattison and Rossi(on loan from Manure) all making appearances this season. We do not have any youth team players who are making starts for us, only Sergio Peter has had a start this season even with our injury problems. continued CLICK HERE

    Charlton Preview

Match Preview by Eddie Well now that the Fulham result has cheered everyone up a bit we get to try our hand against another of London's smaller sides with a trip to the Valley on Tuesday night. The worrying thing for all Blackburn fans is that this seems like an almost certain win. Charlton are currently sitting at the bottom of the table with 9 points from 15 games, though their home form isn't all that bad. They won two, drawn two and lost three at home; to put that in perspective, if they beat us on Tuesday then we will have identical home records. The importance of this match cannot be overstated. A win would see us move up to 11th, still with a game in hand on several teams around us. While defeat would mean that we would be only 4 points above 19th (albeit with a game in hand). I don't think our squad has quite made up their mind as to whether they would like to have a chase for European spots or a relegation battle this season, but now would be a good time to make up their minds. continued - Click Here
  11. This is something that has been on my mind for a while, and is something that we have discussed be it briefly at meetings. One thought was to leave some newsletters on the shelves on the concourse.
  12. Good idea Neil, but Rovers are doing a schools deal........£3 a kid LINK

  14. Well reading the financial papers this morning might have an impact on the club shop. "Mike Ashley is considering a sale or floatation of his Sports World Retailing Empire, he has hired investment bank Merrill Lynch to carry out a strategic review"
  15. Very true, its like watching your mate play. You know hes cr@p but you want him to do well.
  16. Sorry rover6. but Ill take Hughes judgement ahead of yours. If Hughes is prepared to give the Axe a new contract, he must see something in the lad. Well I presume Hughes has watched the Axe more than some people who have made their judgement based on tv highlights.
  17. I wonder whether our Bob has had an unofficial approach, Ive often wondered about them brown paper envelopes he's been stuffing into his pocket outside the BBE. blattent tapping up if you ask me, note the reference to the offer of whichever is the easier. Milan or Jack Walker Way.
  18. Blackpool and a return for Tony Parks to Ewood.
  19. I dont know how many tickets that were involved, but I know of a number of the old timers who vowed never to put a foot inside Ewood Park, after a number of players sold off bundles of tickets, denying fans the oportunity of going. It wasnt helped either that one of the players put in a transfer request on the eve of the cup final.
