He walked away from a much more pressured job because he wanted a bigger challenge, so I'm not sure where the idea that he's here for an easy ride comes from.

There's a difference between writing the season off and begging for relegation. They're slowly bringing their players into the club and slowly bringing along our top Academy prospects - all the while installing the style of play they want to play. I keep mentioning it, but you don't put 3 at the back and employ the low block for 20 mins against relegation threatened Cardiff at home if you're not being pragmatic - we've ground out quite a few games that way this year. We find ourselves in a very surprising position, but they're not going to go hell for leather chasing a playoff spot... hence being linked to two permanent long-term options in supposed positions of strength and pragmatically trying to bring in a goal scorer on loan.

You wouldn't think Butterworth and Vale had come through the Academy (i.e. had some passion for the club) and were playing for their professional futures. The bare minimum you expect from a footballer is 100% effort. If they're not talented enough then you still respect that they've tried. Neither Butterworth or Vale look like they want to be there - and both will find themselves out of football and / or in the lower leagues very shortly.

I definitely watch a different game to most on here. Rathbone put his foot through a half chance (that Morton / Kaminski [take your pick] gifted to him) - he doesn't score that goal again in 100 attempts - and beyond that all he did was go around kicking lumps out of our players. That game, like this Bristol City one and the Boro game were decided by our strikers not being able to finish incredibly presentable chances. That's currently on Mowbray (including saddling us with Gallagher on a new contract!), but after next summer it will be on Broughton and JDT if they can't improve the situation.

He wants a PL job - I assume preferably not one that's deep in a relegation battle.

Brereton-Diaz hasn't scored since the start of November... so basically the same contribution as Gallagher. Neither is sustainable if you want to be a playoff team.

I hope to god Brereton-Diaz isn't here at the end of January.

Even Brereton-Diaz in his current atrocious form would give JRC nightmares - he's a very, very poor athlete for this level. I'm sure Semeyno will get his move shortly, but as someone else on here very succinctly put it - he fits a 'type' of player that PL teams look for. He's been given the green tick by scouts / data analysts despite not actually producing a great deal (he has 16 Championship goals at 23 years old).

I'd like to think most Championship managers could get their club up with £30m in transfers. Burnley's problem will be next year when 90% of those players aren't good enough for the PL.

Well they would, wouldn't they. It wasn't offside and they should have had two stonewall penalties if you ask them - oh and Wells 'bought the foul', but it's still a booking for Ayala apparently. Clowns.

If JDT has any consistency then Kaminski has to sit for the next match - he's thrown the ball into the back of his own net twice in two games. He's cost us 2 points today.

Well part of being an outstanding manager / coach is bringing in your own players. It's a big window for Broughton - let's see what happens. Sir Alex Ferguson would struggle to get a tune out of this team.

Would Gallagher score more goals in L2 than he would in the Championship? His striking technique is atrocious and his instincts are non-existent... which is why I ask the question. He's basically an athletic footballer that puts in a shift and occasionally catches one right.

If you want to highlight a particular passage of play that shows this lack of quality it's in the second half when Hedges was played through on the right hand side... only he didn't have the pace to beat the CB so had to cut back inside (and wasted the chance). When your starting IF doesn't have the pace to run a CB you're in trouble. He's one of our best players, but only a role player in a good side imo.

What couldn't Ayala get away with, exactly? The only person that could possibly have been booked from that altercation is Wells for a dive.

Needs a run of games for mine. Again I think there's a very good player in there, but you're not going to get the best out of him if you keep dropping him out of the side (or the ref drops him out of the side for serious foul play 🙄) - he's genuinely no worse than Morton.

I really wish people would give over with this anger at the word 'project' because they were taken for a ride on Mowbray's 'journey'. JDT was left with a shambles of a squad. Broughton was left with a shambles of a backroom team. At least we have a plan now - if it doesn't come to fruition then you can all pound your chests and tell us all that you told us so... but in the meantime please give these two new members of staff a bit of time to actually change anything. We don't have the financial clout to buy our way out of the league and I'd rather not loan in 6 PL players every year and just tread water. We're in the Playoff places somehow - enjoy it (although it won't last if we don't bring in a striker in the next 10 days).

I thought we were good - created the best two chances of the game again and rarely looked threatened. Another howler from Kaminski is worrying though. Awful refereeing handed them dominance for the final 20 minutes, but they couldn't turn it into anything. As booth said, we didn't miss Vale when he went off - imagine if we brought in a #9 worth his salt this week...
