    This is actually working really quite well so far from my point of view. As a side note the grace period of discussion on the WDWY subjects has now ended. Nobody has questioned where the discussion has gone for 14 days, so that can’t be an excuse!

    But that’s just the point… Giles was injured, but we still had Pickering. Zeefuik was injured, but we had Nyambe. Johnson and Clarkson where both squad players, but again filled in when needed. Davenport again a squad player, he wasn’t needed on the pitch hardly… but he played a role within the squad. Poveda I’ll give you. James Brown has almost zero experience at the standard required. I hope he’s good enough, but we haven’t seen any evidence that he is. Which of Lenihan and JVH do you think Phillips is good enough to currently slot right into? As much as you rate him, the answer can only be neither. Who’s our second left back?! It’s Sunday and my head isn’t working.

    After getting slated for the discussing the weather at Brockhall the other day, I’m astonished you lot are getting away with size of shorts you like wearing.

    Our strongest first 11 from last season has lost: Nyambe, Zeefuik (back up RWB), Lenihan, van Hecke, Giles (back up LWB), Rothwell, Johnson, Clarkson, Khadra, Poveda, Davenport, and will soon lose Brereton. That’s a combined 19,291 minutes of first team football last season we don’t have this season. Yes, some players will step up from U23s. But we need some major first team ready signings.

    I love Ben but he MUST be sold this window. His contract is running out and whilst his form last year was brilliant we just cannot risk it dropping off.

    Whether we could have replaced him in January is pointless and a distraction. We where lucky that Bournemouth offered 3M and should have absolutely taken it… but it shouldn’t have taken that long. If a player won’t sign an extension when they have 18 months left they MUST be sold in the first possible window. This is the basics, this is where the problem started.

    People might not believe this and that’s fine, but trust me, Darragh asked for ‘Ayala money’ and as captain of the club, a mainstay in the team and an international player he felt he deserved it. He didn’t get offered anything like that. That combined with the uncertainty of a new manager who may or may not end up liking him vs. a manager that’s tried to sign him twice before meant it was an easy choice.

    Just been chatting to one of the players, they’re all super impressed with JDT and are being put through their paces big time with fitness and high intensity pressing being prioritised so far in pre season. Expect all the young players that we’ve heard so much about to be given a shout, Phillips, Batty and Wharton all picked out as the best of the bunch. Sounded genuinely excited.

    I thought HMRC banned clubs from giving free STs to staff as its considered a benefit in kind? Certainly Rovers have now had to stop, so I see no reason why PNE or other would be allowed.
