  1. Something has gone amiss with our transfer plans. All the talk of permanent signings has dissipated and we are back in the loan market. Mowbray loses huge credibility If we start the season with what we have now.
  2. Unfortunately Maddison requires a decentish fee so won't be us. Leeds makes much more sense.
  3. Not against Gallagher coming. Thought he had potential. Reminded me a bit of Di Santo. Mobile front man. However, as others alluded - pricey by our current standards. Now if we were to start the season with Gallagher up top - with Dack, Armstrong and Maddison behind him and Chapman on the bench (and not 3 at the back) that would be interesting. #Won'tHappenCan'tAffordIt
  4. This is a poor starting 11 and worryingly not far from our 1st 11. Conway and Bennett as wing backs. Give me strength. Highlights how poor the squad is IMO and how we need at least 5 more 1st teamers in. No pace at all in that side.
  5. Anyone else worried we are blowing our money on new contracts for existing players? Didn't see Smallwood or Williams as a priorty. Still no news on Dack.
  6. Downing is very average. Hopefully won't be in the team much.
  7. England's biggest problem is that we lack intelligent footballers. You need a mix of technical athletes (which we have plenty) and intelligence -football intelligence. They are trained to do this and that but can't do anything outside the box or react to formation changes quickly. A Modric in the middle and a Beardsley up front would do wonders for this side.
  8. To be fair Cahill was on the bench. Could have subbed Trippier when struggling and put walker at right back. Know how and experience may have Sured things up.
  9. Agree about Southgate. His subs have been poor all tournament. He has done a lot of things well but tactically not great. If you are constantly subbing the same players, then why are you starting them? Loftus cheek should have been on a after 50 mins for Ali and Young should never have started. Reminds me alot of Bowyer. Pickford, Maguire and Trippier had a great tournament. Though Stones, mistake tonight aside, was also very good. Everyone else bang average. Kane will likely win the golden boot but his all round play is poor. Got lucky in those 2 opening games. Reminds me of Jordan Rhodes!I Overall did better than I expected, but I feel they threw it away -rather than being battered by a better team. Frustrated!
  10. If we go through tonight, then no need to fear France. Sit deep and play on the break. Just like they did against Belgium. Negate their pace. They may try to do the same. Boring spectacle but would fancy us to nick it on a set piece. They are no wonder team. IF! Come on England!!!
  11. If we played France at wembley, you would expect to win or draw. In France, draw or lose. Either team capable of beating the other. Same with Belgium and Croatia. Anybodies tournament this. Belgium and France have the strongest squads but first eleven are pretty evenly matched.
  12. Didn't Mowbray say that the owners were enthusiastic and he had to reign them in as he wanted to build sensibly. In which case, he shouldn't be frustrated as the money was apparently there if he wanted it! Allegedly.
  13. Unfortunately to get a good player with our budget, it is probably a risk we have to take. Players with pace like Chapman will probably only be available 2/3 of the time but tend to impact games more than your Conways etc. Look at Josh King. He had injury issues here but seems to have shaken them off since joining Bournemouth so not always indicative of their future career prospects. Personally, from what I saw of Chapman, he is the nearest to Duff that I've seen -and that lad was a joy to watch.
  14. I thought Bennett was one of our best midfield performers. We need to add some height and pace still.
  15. Athletic? Nah. If you have the talent you don't need the muscles. Modric is phenomenal - yet physically is built like your nan. That said, Tomlinson is nowhere near that level?
  16. Mowbray has said we are waiting for prices to 'lower'. The Waggot interview mentioned out of contract players. Put the 2 together and we clearly don't have a competitive Championship budget. Yes we will sign players but Mowbray will have to unearth some gems if we are to do anything but battle relegation.
  17. Better team spirit, definitely. Better calibre of player than those relegated? ...not convinced yet. We have a spine of Raya, Mulgrew, Dack and Graham. Two of those are in the twighlight of their careers. We will make additional signings; whether they will be good enough is the debate. To bring in at least 5 players of sufficient quality will cost. The noises suggest we don't have sufficient funds to compete. Mediocre signings will see us struggle. For me, loan signings that you can't make permanent area waste of time. If we had signed Chapman, Armstrong and Payne last year. Two or three signings this year would ensure a good season. As it is, our squad is weaker than the league one squad of last year. It needs 3 players of equal quality to those above plus another two or three to improve on that league one squad.
  18. Not missing the point. That 'starting place', without serious investment in 5 or 6 champ quality players, is relegation fodder.
