JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Wing Wizard Windy Miller replied to adz4d2's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Depends on how Venkys bought into his plan. If he told them we won't go up this year but with good backing could push for promotion next year, then £20 mil (which may include summer) is a fair shout. Also in line with what we would expect for Dack... -

But they are 5 positions we need to strengthen regardless. Would love to see 4-4-2 with Travis and Reed in the middle, A couple of direct wingers and Graham and Gallagher up front. -

Chapman came of bench so cup tied. Probably nothing happening with that one this month. -

Rodwell injured again. Not a player we should be offering any further terms to. -

Then why did he try to get him in at the death of the transfer window? I see he is on the bench again today for Boro. -

Got to be fair Rev, Graham has looked plenty fit enough to me -demonstrated by him chasing down the WBA backline in the last 5 mins on Tues. Something a fresh on the pitch 19 year old couldn't manage. -

Exactly that. We have nobody in the side that can genuinely beat a full back. -

And will probably be as effective sitting in the stands with us ? -

Absolutely no point planning on Dack being here next year. Selling him and reinvesting (some) seems the plan. -

I thought exactly that reading the report. No more panic buys! -

Aye Charlie is the same height but not what you call a dominant cb. -

Not sure The Charlton lad is the big, nasty centre half we are missing. Sounded more of a Charliesque ball player. -

Don't worry, we have 2 quality leftbacks on the books. -
Ben Brereton Diaz

And still didn't have enough about him to chase their back line down! -
Lewis Travis

Toss up for me between Evans and Smallwood. Don't think either are particularly good. Smallwood is generally either very effective or bloody awful. Evans isn't nearly as noticeable. Not sure if that means he does less or not. For me, a midfield 2 of Reed and Travis would be a bloody nightmare to play against. Constantly in your face and with some ability going forward. -

We are 4 first team players away from challenging IMO. -

I agree with the quality side - though I think we need proven championship quality before we think about viable premier league players - hopefully some of the younger lads we've signed develop into those. -

We certainly need a big CB! Travis may save us a few quid in the middle. Out wide is our Achilles heel. We need specialised wingers that are prepared to track back (younger versions of Conway) as we currently play strikers (that are terrible at offering any cover to the full backs - no surprise we concede a lot from crosses) or central midfielders that don't offer anything going forward (like Bennett). The next 5 signings, be it now or summer have to be. CB LB RW LW CF All need to be good enough to go straight into the first 11 (although a player like Chapman would be a great addition to the bench). To be fair, they are the same signings most of us were asking for in summer! ? -

Up front? Whether he starts on the bench or not, we desperately need an experienced player who can come in and score a few (like Armstrong did last year). One that's wily enough to run a clock down would be good as well... Why? Because when you take either Dack, Graham or even Mulgrew out the team, we don't have any goal scorers. Given that we also can't keep clean sheets, we really need to add some more fire power! I'm not banking in Brereton scoring any this season. He looks like another Kevin Davies. May be ok in a few years when he's bulked up and focused his game.
