Surely given our ticket receipts and matchday revenues are less than many clubs then the impact of losing that income is less?

Mowbray likes to tell us about giant clubs Stoke and Middlesbrough and the mighty Bristol City getting full houses every week. Amazing how their management have come up with ways of overcoming such lost income yet at Rovers the loss of our support has been so disastrous.

I'm not sure who will have lower wage bills than Rovers come the end of June with the departures and squad size we have.

I suppose most clubs are desperate/determined to avoid transfer embargoes because they actually want to invest/improve and succeed. I'm not sure that's the case here.

The relativity of our income to other clubs isn’t the issue.
The issue is the high proportion of our total income that our match day revenue represents….largely due to the piss poor merchandising/marketing throughout the Waggott era.

So how has this affected us more than the other 23 clubs in the division, all but a handful aren't under an embargo and have begun recruitment in earnest ahead of the new season?

Covid a convenient excuse here for all sorts of failures until the question gets asked how/why it has affected Rovers more than anyone else.

That’s easy, some clubs are more dependent upon matchday revenue than others. Some clubs earned more from TV than others. Some have better sponsorship deals. Some have better iFollow sales figures. Some pay lower wages. Covid has hit the industry, but not all clubs have the same business model.

Some also have fully-functioning executive boards…

Surely if we are under a transfer embargo then both Waggott and Cheston should immediately resign their positions.

I cannot see how their continued employment particularly on such substantial wages can be justified if they have led the club into another transfer embargo so soon after the last one. It shows that nothing has changed.

It is only 5 years since we emerged from the last one. Since then we've been down to League One and supposedly cleared the decks and rebuilt in a sensible way.

Many other clubs who have smaller attendances and commercial revenues than us manage to operate in sensible, sustainable and competitive ways and yet we seem to be on an endless cycle of boom and bust where we have a couple of years of reasonable spending/no sales followed by a couple of years of slash and burn probably resulting in relegation again.

Mental way to operate but the people paid fortunes to keep a steady ship need removing if this happens. There's no excuse for it and it could cost the club league status.

Of course if the owners gave a toss about the club they'd either find ways around an embargo or sack those responsible for putting us into it. But they don't and so here we are.

I’m no defender of Waggott but Covid has rather impacted upon income…

I’ll take a modicum of credit for that Herbie. The journalist emailed me a couple of days ago (my email is on the club website) and I pointed him in the direction of brfcs for some comments from fans about his debut.

    Well thank you…well done 😁

I saw a reply from @Tom on Twitter & followed up that with Nicolas but pleased that BRFCS is now (in)famous in South America 👍🏻

here is something of what the Chilean press says about Ben:

The positive debut of Ben Brereton that excites the Red

The Chilean nationalized English striker Ben Brereton made his debut for La Roja and left a good image against Argentina.
The Blackburn Rovers striker played the last 13 minutes of the match against Argentina, time that was enough for him to show some of his qualities. He showed speed, fought balls, ran, held in the area, showed skill and even cleared balls at critical moments. He entered very plugged in, and he got on perfectly with his companions. Martín Lasarte wins a more than valid alternative for the attack.

The British had no problems helping in the back, with sacrifice, clearing an occasional center, with delivery. He had only been on the field for five minutes and it seemed that he had played his whole life in the National Team, because he complemented himself very well with his teammates, in all sectors and in all facets of the game.
And although Martín Lasarte's team was focused on defending, the striker did not neglect his central task, which was to attack. And he did well, despite the fact that Chile practically did not have the ball and was completely besieged by Lionel Messi and company.
Even so, it managed to be an outlet and create danger in the trans-Andean area. In fact, when the national team was able to come out of a counterattack a couple of times, Ben Brereton was very prominent, exhibiting great speed and skill. In that last play and like an experienced 9, the attacker held a ball very well in the opposite area, which then Charles Aránguiz finished off and missed

In just 13 minutes, Brereton delivered. And although it is early to draw definitive conclusions about his performance and what his real contribution may be, the image he left in Rio de Janeiro is more than positive. And also hopeful, because in Chile there are not many center-forward of his characteristics. More than one may criticize Lasarte - and rightly so - for not having made him play against Bolivia, when the match required a net attacker.

Thanks for this & welcome to Blackburn Rovers 😀

I must admit the cash injections seem to be lower than i would have expected this year.

Looking at it they have injected £1m more than last season despite not having nearly as much match day income etc plus investing more in player wages etc this term.

I would have expected at least another £5-7m in share allocations this year to cover that shortfall. So really i wonder where the cash has come from to pay everything?

Loans from Venkys as opposed to share capital

AFC Fylde away is the first preseason game on 10th July. They play in white, so would expect the new away shirt to be in action by then at the very latest.

As said above, with the Umbro deal running until 30th June, I wouldn't expect any Macron releases until 1st July at the earliest.

Bit of fun for everyone in the meantime

iFollow was centrally run and even live mixed away from Ewood Park. Pre-game adverts would cut off chat between the commentators at random. Amongst a host of other issues I thought iFollow was tosh.

Me too…let’s hope the club employs someone who knows what they’re doing…😉

  9. I was watching this last night on catch-up (lovely little series BTW, highly recommended, nice interview with Syd Cowans) and the Liverpool semi final in Munich was discussed, especially the impact Howard Gayle had when he came on for Dalglish.

Brereton can easily be that type of player - direct, pacy, able to win a free kick in a dangerous area…

So does that mean Brereton becomes the second Chilean to play for Rovers?

I wonder if he speaks Spanish. Better be brushing up on it if not!

I imagine he will have at least a smattering to be able to communicate with the maternal side of the family…hope so anyhow 😳

In days gone by, more cynical England managers have played these players in meaningless friendlies to keep the players from doing this, just in case they perform in future.

Chris Sutton was taken the piss out of when it came to England, and was only given one appearance, and Ben isn’t fit to wrap gorilla tape around the aging aglets of Chris Sutton’s shoelaces.

These days friendlies don’t count e.g. Wilf Zaha
