A look back at the career of a true Rovers legend & an interview with his daughter, Natalie Parkes-Thompson about growing up in a footballing household.

We pay tribute to Tony Parkes, player, coach, caretaker manager and an all-round Rovers legend in the truest sense of the word. We recall the highs and some of the lows of Tony’s career & hear from Natalie Parkes-Thompson, Tony's daughter as to how they have each coped with lockdown.
Contributions from Bill Arthur, music from Josh Henry (Only One J Henry); interview conducted by Ian Herbert.

    Thanks for everyone's comments.

The key is to share the hell out of it so that as many people as possible are made aware of the issues then they can make their own mind up.

Our technical guru informs us that there are options to add signatures in due course depending on the amount of traffic to the sites so we can do this if people require I think.

I think the number of signatures is less important than the quality of the content & the content is really well written & presented.

I would have thought that any money made from selling land owned by the club would be classed as a sale for the club, i.e. a profit.

It is...any disposal over book value is profit.

However, when calculating profit for FFP purposes, certain expenditure in infrastructure is allowable.

Therefore, if this land is sold, for FFP it generates a positive inflow, then if that cash is spent on redeveloping the academy site, that is allowable so net on net, it improves our FFP calculation.

    I'd like some ingenuity too:

"In light of the 'baby boom' due to lockdowns, we're offering every newborn at Royal Blackburn Hospital a free Rovers Home shirt. Their first season ticket, when you choose to bring them, will be free of charge (assuming you're an adult/senior, and they are still a junior)."

Are you an Atalanta fan ? 😉

This is the point Herbie6590, given the criteria, is it likely we can meet them with a complex reduced by half?

Has the club satisfied itself on this point or will it plough on anyway to get its hands on the dosh?

I'll be honest and say I don't trust those in charge to honour Jack's legacy. After all, if they had any sympathies that way they would not be selling the land in the first place would they? Jack gave it to the club, I'm sure he wouldn't have expected his successors to sell half of it.

I agree - my posting of the Sunderland stuff was to demonstrate that even if you know what will be checked, approval isn’t a given, it has to be earned by a robust evidence trail.
Look at what they had to do after being rejected...it’s an exhaustive process.

But surely people know what any audit will cover and whether the new reduced Brockhall can contain all the necessary features. Not asking for an official response from the FA or whoever decides these things. Simply, will the "new" Brockhall have all the features necessary for Cat A status before we knock it down.

Sunderland’s initial application was rejected & they revised their approach when they re-applied. I guess it’s like preparing for a health inspection in a restaurant....you know what could be checked, but if you don’t prove it, you don’t get the accreditation.

Thanks, I haven't got around to reading those minutes yet. As you suggest I wouldn't be happy with an inference because the element of trust just isn't there.

So we need, imo, categorical answers to 2 questions, the one I've asked "will Cat 1 Status be retained if the sell-off of land goes ahead?" and the question you've raised "if Cat 1 status is not guaranteed will the sell-off still go ahead?"

There is a third question, "why did no-one at the Fans Forum seek these specific guarantees?"

Nobody can give guarantees re Category 1 status - it’s an independent audit process. Think of it like a pseudo-Ofsted inspection. All anyone can do is look at the requirements & make the case that you are meeting them. If the auditors agree then you gain/keep your accreditation.

    This is Sunderland’s story...
