https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cpwg72jx9j5o BBC suggesting it's Broughton wanting to leave Broughton staying Broughton going it makes no difference the club is fucked with these clowns as owners

That will surely be one of the add ons to take the deal closer to 22 million

We could have got a little more for him but until tested at premier league level there is a ceiling and nobody is being stupid suggesting that. Apart from Bellingham who had a way bigger reputation than Wharton what other teenager has been sold for more money? The fact Is most of us on here knew he was an incredible talent but he hadnt even been called up to an England under 21 squad whilst with us ...it took a move to the premier league for him to even get that

Next season’s line up

He isn't head of recruitment Sean Kimberley is. Broughton's job isn't to solely identify players ...he hasn't sat checking stats and scouting players all week. He is director of football operations and it isn't just the first team. At least contracts have got signed while he is here -
Yeah but when you are spending so little and hoping to sign championship level players for as little as 300 k then it could be the most respected dof in the world in charge but it is going to be very difficult to get the quality desired for such little money. When we supposedly had a better budget we were bringing in and being linked with better. The striker Adams who Broughton supposedly had a liking for is now being rated at £20 million following his summer move. Hyam had a shit season , and I'm not keen on hisw character but last season he was excellent and if Szmodic is sold it will dwarf the 2 million spent in the summer. I'm not suggesting Broughton is excellent at his job but it could be anyone in his position and they will still find the job extremely difficult when budgets keep getting changed etc. When Broughton has spent over a million quid the signings have been ok

Reported by Waggott to a few people in the privacy of his own office . Broughton said on a podcast available to be listened by whoever chooses that it was Ben Rosen who identified Szmodic as a player to bring in, stating he wasn't on any previous lists. In the same podcast he also explicitly said that it was him who asked for JDT to be added to the shortlist whilst Waggott was telling supporters that JDT had already been identified prior to Broughton joining the club . Steve "we bought a new bus" Waggott is a proven liar

What I don't understand is we lose £20 million per year every year? When our top earner was Rhodes on 35k a week and had other high earners the owners had to put in £20 million to keep us afloat. Now we have the third lowest wage budget in the league and spend hardly anything in the transfer market but we still have to find £20 million,?

The bookies

He will meet the extras(most likely already met one by making his under 21 debut)so it's a deal worth 22.5 million rather than 18 and it's said we have a sell on so we will get a percentage of any future fee. I was gutted to see him sold and should have held on until summer but as a championship player I don't think we would have got much more for him as a championship club,he hadn't even been involved with the England under 21 squad because he played for us so just my opinion I think it's fanciful to think we would have got much more for him than we did Obviously I'm fuming that the owners have put us in the position where our most talented player is being sold to Crystal palace and Szmodic being linked with Luton

Id agree it was a small price but while playing for a championship club we wouldn't have seen anything like 40-50 million for him,and although I'm sure Wharton would have seen the season out with us he would have wanted to move up a league by summer, with more teams possibly bidding we could have got maybe 25 mill like Bournemouth got for Scott.

Agreed but are there many players that could have been signed for £500 k(in installments) in January and the likely low wage that O'Riordan will be on that could have had an immediate impact? We had been trying to get that O'Riordan deal done early doors in January and reported we tried last summer so was a long term target of the club and could potentially still be a good signing longer term. We didn't have a pot to piss in as evidenced by who came in in January, so agree the money could have been spent on someone that was ready to play now but I'd have no confidence they would have been any good like the rest of our January signings and the majority of our summer signings with the exception of Tronstad and to a lesser extent Hill

O'Riordan was signed with the future in mine though to be fair, bought for his potential. You don't see many under 21 centre halves coming from league 2 and straight into the action for a Championship side. Only in time will we see if that money was well spent or not .I do take the argument that the fee could have been used on a player more ready to aid us this season but what does 500k in installments get you these days

Next season and beyond? He is only contracted till 2025.I think he will be gone in the summer
