I disagree it was many clubs . Many clubs in the premier league couldn't put £6 million on this year's books ? Everton, Newcastle...who else? Everton wouldn't have been paying more than palace anyway and it's widely reported that Newcastle's recruitment team felt he didn't have the stamina they wanted Many clubs could have paid that fee with no ffp concerns

Facts are nobody else put a bid in matching the offer from Palace.So no .No other team was willing to pay what Palace did in January It took a transfer for him to even get the recognition to be called up for England under 21s

But any club in the premier league,with the exception of one or two could have made an offer for him in January and they didn't . I don't agree with it as from day one his talent was obvious but there has to have been doubts over him by recruitment teams in the premier league, or we would have received much more interest in January when it became obvious how little h it would take to buy him

Being Cat1 will also make us more attractive to players . The academy is doing fine out.Premier league clubs also lose top talents like finnernan to other premier league clubs for next to nothing. We took Tyjon from Rochdale. I agree there should be more protection but still I wouldn't be taking us out of CAT 1 we are producing enough players to make the cost more than worthwhile

How much would Rankin-Costello, Scott Wharton , Hayden Carter,Lewis Travis ,John Buckley etc cost us to buy?A lot more than £1.5m is my guess If we didn't have an academy we wouldn't have received a record transfer fee as A.Wharton would have been in someone else's academy. It's disheartening that Finnernan will leave and what happened with Phillips but regardless the academy is the one good thing the club still has going for it ,yet you and other posters think we would be better off doing away with it? Yeah and Goalscorers are the hardest to replace. Wharton and Kaminski are top players and Wharton will go on to have a better career than Szmodic but when sold they weren't bigger losses than Szmodic (if he is sold)

Well kaminski and Wharton won't be doing anything for us in the future will they? Szmodic is our Only goal scorer

When he can be arsed. Being real he had probably 12 months here where he played well, contributing goals and assists,the rest of the time we got flashes of fancy dribbles that inevitably led to nothing. Similar pattern at both Bournemouth and Southampton I presume considering he been a bench player fhe majority of the time

If we sold Szmodic last January instead of Wharton we would have been relegated. Wharton in my opinion is far more talented but he was no way near as important a player as Szmodic was last season Szmodic will be a huge loss

Id stay well clear of Rothwell Have you forgotten his non performances after being refused a move to Bournemouth the January before his summer departure? Up until then he had been excellent that season as soon as he didn't get his transfer his performances were shit He is a 1 in 3 or 4 player anyway a decent performance followed by poor performances and like you say will be on more money than any of our players

I read a few reports after his call up that some clubs had doubts over him physically, and felt he didn't have the stamina they were looking for. Newcastle where one of those teams according to reports. We should have held on until the summer but we obviously couldn't due to our owners, and us needing to find money to pay the bills . Ok.I just went off what the media and JDT said , I'm pretty sure Broughton also said the same that we rejected their first bid but then they met our asking price and we gave permission for him to speak to palace .Either way it doesn't really matter, the best talent the club has produced in years was sold before he could see out a season as a first choice player to pay the bills

This is ridiculous.Why aint the club saying anything? Why hasnt a statement been put out regarding Broughton's future when the BBC , telegraph and tabloids have commented that he is gone? I'm venting at the club here not you. I just can't understand why the club haven't released a statement regarding Broughton's position,when for a week its being said he had left the club by the media.
