A club doesn't ban their Head Coach from speaking to the media unless that person is on their way out. It will be announced pretty quickly after the game I would imagine.

The defensive record has been shocking and the results have been incredibly poor this season so he's been lucky not to have been potted earlier. Still, I dread to think who we appoint next. They'll be a puppet.

We will see but I'm not convinced he is going

That is probably true, but they signed within days or weeks of him stepping thro the door.

This discussion was originally about GB's scouting team and contacts' ability to identify a Championship quality player, primarily someone to lead the line.

He hasn't shown he can do this and those he has 'brought on' (sorry...) have been some our least successful signings ever, including Chis Brown...

Is there many championship forwards that can be signed for £300k what we bought Telalovic for?

Even Hirst has done ok for Ipswich, it didn't work out here but he has shown at Ipswich he is capable of playing at this level

Some of recruitment has been shite like the goalkeeper, but when more than a million has been spent then the players have done ok.

Again not saying GB is the Messiah but he is working with his hands tied behind his back

The discussion is whether GB and his scouting team initially identified them. It is accepted that the 1st player that GB identified and pursued in earnest was Hirst.

I'm not a Waggot fan but this isn't directly about him.

Says who?Who said we were down the line with the signings of Szmodic and Hyam before GB arrived.

So we had no manager/head coach or Dof but you believe the club were making bids for players?

Sorry I do not believe that.

Those players might have been on a list from the previous regime but there would have been many more names on those lists

Even you you want to count them as his singings before this window in Broughton's time here we have brought in 14 players. Three of them have been good singings Szmodics, Hyam & Tronstad. Then you have Hill who was decent, the rest have been disappointments. 3-4 good singings out of 14 is a success rate of about 30% for a club whose finances are tight that is not anywhere near a good enough success rate.

It doesn't look good know but when the  circumstances he is working under keep getting changed at the last minute it's understandable.

Take the summer, end of season interview he was under the impression the wage budget remained the same and any transfer fee would have to be self generated. They then cut the wage budget by 15% and gave him £1 million from the sales of Kaminski and Phillips.

In that interview he also outlined the need for experience to be brought to the squad and was telling supporters on the pre season tour that we were down the line with the Danny Batth signing only to be overruled by the owners

I do not think he is doing an incredible job or anything but any dof would find it extremely difficult to do their job competently with that interference and circumstances changing every 5 minute

they were scouted and watched by mowbrays team, broughton inherited the list, there is no way he`d have signed both of them of his own bat

    How do you know?

They were signed while he was in situ.If he was that against signing them he would have signed other players

What's the bets if this McGuire does well it won't be a GB signing either.

All summer on here it was rumoured not just by mercer that Adams was GBS preferred striker target, then the budget changed and we couldn't pursue it.He moved to France for £4 million and has done well enough for his club to now value him at £20 million amid interest from premier league clubs.

According to various reports we were making bids for players as late as Wednesday but once again Broughton had the rug pulled from under him and was left scouring the loans and freebies.

I am in no way saying that Broughton is doing a great job but he has his hands tied behind his back. For the posters who say a more experienced man with contacts would be better ,I do agree but dofs with experience and a large contact book wouldn't work for this lot.

The 'O'Brien farce', which directly resulted in us missing out on a play-off place, was the responsibility of GB.

Some of us dare to suggest that we could have had better value from the permanent signings GB has brought in. Most  of his signings have brought zero benefit to the club, have been nowhere near the 1st team, and have been shipped out soon after.

Some of us dare to suggest that there are players out there who would have done a job, at least deserving of a place on the bench, for the same money that we spent on the recent failures.

Some of us don't believe that he is particularly good at picking a Championship ready player, based on the evidence in front of us.

He was 100% sure Hirst and Ennis would play well within JDT's set-up, his interviews were effusive in terms of his confidence that they would make us better. They and Telalovic have been a drain on our collective confidence and resources.

Until one of our GB signings at least gets near to 1st team action, never mind successfully or not, the jury will be out on whether he is the right person to do positive things with a criminally limited budget. Only someone with great talent would succeed in these circumstances. In the same way that certain managers succeed on shoestring budgets.

He has now invested a lot of time and money in another unproven foreign striker. I desperately hope he bucks the GB trend.

    That's not hate.

It's just a realistic appraisal of someone finding it very difficult to function in a very challenging role.

He doesn't yet warrant the praise heading his way, but I'll be the 1st to laud him if there's a shred of evidence to do so.

You realise he signed Szmodic the top scorer in the championship?

Hyam our captain and both supporters and players player of the year last season ?

Let’s just pretend the excellent free transfer of Sondre Tronstad doesn’t exist (I know there’s apparently caveats with the others like Brittain, Hyam, Szmodics, Hill, to an extent Sigurdsson etc).

Yeah Szmodic doesn't count as one of Broughton's signings cus Steve Waggott said so psml

How do you know he was on 18k a week at CSKA? No way did he offer him 15k amidst the cut backs.

Various reports suggest he was on that much at CSKA

Plus it's not a stretch to believe it, he cost them £4 million , they played champions league and the Russians paid decent wages pre war.

When he went to Venezia they got an 800k loan fee

And also "no way" how would you know if we are paying those wages or not?

Do you think Szmodic renewed without a significant increase bearing in mind he was championship top scorer when he signed it?

Sounds like there's some shady accounting going on then.

Or us as fans are underestimating the cost of all the new contracts in the last 18 months.

Sigurrdson for example was on 18k a week at CSKA Moscow ,surely we won't have given him that much but he will be on at least 15k per week

The lads who came up through the academy Carter, JRC etc would have had a big jump from the contracts they signed when breaking through to the first team

Pleasantly surprised to wake up this morning and see the Fleck signing, good player and a good signing. But a 6 month contract? This whole window has basically been a 6 month sticking plaster and nothing resembling the 'player trading model' that has previously been spoken of.

That was the project when JDT and GB walked through the door

Both GB ,JDT and Waggott have said the project changed in the summer.Numerous times JDT has referenced ,"the project totally changing"

The new project is sell anyone worth anything and replace with academy loans and short term deals

  11. 47 minutes ago, Tugayisgod said:

The deal almost collapsed late Wednesday so he may have been down there, but the money certainly won't have been.

Like I say, after calming down slightly, maybe, just maybe I can now seen some sort of plan.

Short term fixes hopefully get us through to the summer and then have a real go.

I'm hoping the LT are asking the same question of G B when he pops up.

If Fleck is fit I'd give the window 5/10, before that 3/10 at best.

McGuire obviously an unknown quantity, thr other loans don't see making a huge contribution, especially the Liverpool lad

I know I'm repeating myself but the let can ask GB all the questions in the world , why do you think he will have any answers?

We were making cash bids to buy players permanent on Wednesday 24 hours later it was only players on deals till the end of the season we could sign.

Broughton will not have a clue what his budget is for next season , and if he does by the time summer comes round the goalposts will be moved again .

It’s vital we get some assurance from GB about summer. Unlike Waggot he’s not a cold lier.

As a temporary fix this squad is okay, really think Fleck will make a difference and for me he’s the signing of the window along with the Crewe lad.

We just need confidence that replacements will be made in summer.

How can Broughton give assurances about anything?

Summertime budget cut after bringing in 2 players

January making cash bids for players 24 hours later we can only sign players till the end of the season.

Looking forward to Greggs interview regarding the transfer window and the plans for the summer.

We were making bids for permanent signings the day before deadline before the plug was pulled and only people until the end of the season could be brought in.

Nobody at the club will know what the plan is going forward after the end of the season so absolutely pointless Broughton discussing plans for the summer window.

I really don’t think there’s much science behind these loan deals.

Rovers: We’re enquiring about X on loan

PL club: Sure thing but it’ll cost you x and you’ll need to contribute x to wages.

Rovers: bugger, we’ve got fuck all money

PL club: we’ve got some useless tosser in the under 23s who you can have for free as no other club wants them

    Rovers: brilliant!

Yeah in for Nat Phillips he goes elsewhere and we then sign another Liverpool player, younger , cheaper/free ,less experienced

For most of us, it's not hate.

We just base our extreme disappointment on the evidence of who he has brought sine he arrived, especially the permanent signings, who he has said were his number one targets.

We have all been waiting to see if last January's catastrophic cock-up, which directly cost us a play-off place,  would prove to be a one-off.

The answer so far is no, we are still waiting for him to support Rovers to punch above their weight, which is the sign of a good football administrator. I've not seen that he has quality contacts, or the ability to 'spot a player', and these are the main elements of his job.

A decent director of football manages to find quality, regardless of budget, and he hasn't brought in a single quality player (Hyam excepted, although he was identified before GB arrived).

Broughton has had to work under increased financial pressure since June, but he has known that he would probably have 4 or 5 million to spend since last week, or before, so a D of F worth his salt would have had 2 quality players lined up in advance of Adam's departure, but no, not a single major signing, to make up for the debacle of Jan '23.

That's why the jury is out, and for many of us, he is part of the problem, not the solution.

JDT's talent has provided protection for him for 18 months, but many of us see-through that.

    Are you any clearer now?

He has no money to spend on a permanent deal why do you think McGuire has gone from a permanent to a loan? Why you think we are signing 37 year olds on 4 month deals?Taking a lad on loan from Liverpool who hasn't done much in his previous loans?

It's more like 5 pence rather than £5 million Broughton has

I still feel our recruitment looks poor even with the little we have but it's the owners who are the issue here nobody else

I wonder if there's ever been another professional football Club who were that desperate not to pay a transfer fee for a player that they reneged on a permanent deal on  ostensibly favourable terms to enter into a loan deal on far worse terms?

That's what happens when the owners turn around and forbid a transfer fee being paid out of the Wharton fee

It's quite obvious until yesterday the people making the bids were under the impression some of the Wharton money would be available
