Sorry but there’s no chance of that. Football will be dead if it doesn’t resume by August.

Not sure how many of you on the board know @pk1875 (Paul to his friends) but he’s currently in hospital suffering quite badly due to Coronavirus. If you get a minute to say a prayer or send positive vibes he could really do with them right now.

Players that underachieved or what could have been
Stuart replied to Oldgregg86's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Why do you continue to bait me on this? Are you that bored? Of course I don’t blame him for the accident (FFS) but if he had picked Jansen like he had been intimating then he wouldn’t have been in Rome. I was angry with Eriksson at the time and I’m not about to forgive him now. -
That’s all well and good. I didn’t say I’m entitled to it, I said I want my money back. Why am I - as a tax payer - paying staff to be furloughed when I‘ve already paid them once through my ticket money?

Well I do. Taking Keown instead of Jansen was a scandal. Although I will say that maybe I was wrong about Grip and it was a decision taken by Eriksson. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/did-eriksson-have-a-last-minute-change-of-heart-over-jansen-9198712.html -

One of the biggest “what might have been’s” in my lifetime. I still blame Eriksson. Shafted our club twice that bloke. Tord Gripp might have been in his ear but the buck stopped with him. -
What are people who have lost jobs and businesses going to do if this goes on much longer? My sympathy for PL clubs does not go very far I’m afraid. “Poor old” Burnley will have to get a facility in place from the bank against next year’s earnings. They aren’t getting relegated so they have to take on debt like every other club. They are in a better position than most as one of very few clubs making money in this industry.

With clubs doing stuff like furloughing staff - which means asking tax payers to pay their staff despite being part of an industry worth billions - the spectre of ticket refunds will now be raised. I was prepared to let them have the cash for the greater good but if Rovers furlough their staff then I want a refund on my season ticket for the games missed.

Coventry don’t seem to have looked back since he (and Mowbray) left. We know all to well how easy it is to work with the Raos. Be a ‘nice man’ and keep the peasants away from their pitchforks seems to be the only requirement.

The Belgian example bemuses me. Each team had ONE game to play. Plenty of time to expect a closed doors match. Everyone else however...

A ridiculous way to govern football. Different financial rules applying in different ways over three different categories: PL, Championship and L1/L2. No wonder football is in such a mess.

Funny isn’t it. All these threads about our favourite memories as a Rovers fans and the good times. None of them from the Venkys era...

While I agree with the sentiment, Champions bring in two players better than their best players and lose the weakest ones by default.

According to wiki he played 3 games for us - including one on loan Yet transfermarkt have him down as playing 6 times. The latter sounds more likely - but still, very dodgy indeed. If he wasn’t third party owned I’d be very surprised.

So £152m in debt with £128m owed to Venkys. An increase of 17% in one year. Champion. They really have been fantastic for this club over the last 9 years. By ‘this club’, I of course mean the Old Boys Club. We should all not only be grateful but should help them by getting the dwindling fanbase to pay for this mess. If they want people to rally round after the lockdown they really need to not market it as somehow supporting the Raos.

Looking like the Belgian league will be scrapped, with Club Brugge champions having a 15 point lead. Bodes well for Liverpool-sterisk. Meanwhile Waasland-Beveren are set to be relegated despite being 2 points behind second bottom team KV Oostende with one match left. Oostende’s final game was to be away to Brugge, while Waasland-Beveren were at home in a must win game over second placed Gent. Somehow they can’t find a way to play 8 fixtures before the end of June. Not 8 sets of games, 8 individual matches. Absolutely zero chance of English leagues being completed. Let the recriminations and legal battles commence.

Hopefully the top divisions will commit financial suicide and football will start again from scratch on a level playing field. Of course the reality is that it will be the small clubs who suffer and the gravy train will tumble on.
-
Selective memory there, Mike. Bruno was pretty decent. He might have been a good un for us but for the whole stench around every signing at that time.

Great photos @Gav - cheers ?

Which is exactly why we needed to take advantage while we had the time and not waste it on another steady eddy. Let’s hope you are wrong but at least now everything can be blamed on Coronavirus. Everyone at the club is now absolved.

All part of the convenient forgetting of clubs like Rovers. If they could somehow take 94/95 off us they would. But Venkys have been absolutely fantastic for this club while they have been here. -
I agree. Relegations still need to happen but on the points per game ratio (and including any deductions). Liverpool were going to win the PL. Bolton were going to be relegated. If the season resumed in January and next season was quashed (which would actually be more financially disastrous for clubs) then these two events would happen. Any mathematical substitute shouldn’t change this.
