150 million down the tubes in ten years and not ONE good steady reliable experienced keeper recruited in that time by god knows how many managers. Says a lot that.

Players soon might have no choice in regards to drastic wage chops. The days of the agent might come to an end as well, silver lining.

Will he in turn be putting the ex SEM boys on furlough as well.... or on stand by. -
In my time in order of the best... Brad Flowers Mimms Gennoe Filan Robinson And to think we used to have decent clubs ex no 1's as our back up keepers, Filan, Kelly, that guy who was West Broms no 1 for years etc. Gennoe as a boyhood hero will always be a fav of mine even though he wasn't as good as some of the others. But looking back to have a keeper like him on the books in those spartan days was nothing short of amazing. How they managed to get him in i don't know but it was probably one of if the best signings of that era.

They're providing jobs for people is how they see it, misguided generosity when the focus should be entirely on funding Blackburn Rovers football club back to where they found it. I've often felt this is the case they obviously feel responsible to keep the club going but never seem to learn chucking huge amounts at it every year isn't enough. In their eyes i think they feel they are being charitable and everyone should be grateful, the arse kissers in the middle certainly are when they are filling their pockets serving up bland mediocrity dressed as stability. Said it before but managers, directors and players and that guy in the middle plus agent friends have one of the best gigs in football at this club as long as they plod on, do as they are told and don't rock the boat. The next round of sales which may be somewhat forced by this weird situation will re-align FFP, make the finance people/bank happier, save the owners a few quid. Fill some pockets in between again and of course cover up the huge hole of the over spend on under whelmers. Meanwhile we have to be happy again with having a side and manager good enough to steer us through all that and stay up. -
Paul Lake, Paul Warhurst and David Hirst all guys from the 90's who would've gone on to bigger things if it wasn't for serious injury that virtually finished them overnight. Lots of perks to being a pro but there's a flip side especially for guys who would've ended up on tens of thousands per week. Cruel game at times.

Opinions on Mike Newell

What a team that was still marvel at the organisation and sheer graft of them week in week out all this time later. Rock solid foundations, square pegs in square holes and a platform for the flair and quality to play to its strengths. -

I was thinking that, he was a Hughes signing if i recall correctly. Can't remember who else might have been in the Southport Mafia ? Quite a few lived out that way. -

Top player with a great engine and attitude, very basic skill wise and lacked the physical and finishing of elite target men. However an intelligent, hard working quality player who served Rovers really well. -
It sounds like they want to start selling players, now why would that be ?
-
If Venkys are still willing to plug the hole from their vast cash pile then why not let them they do it anyway so a few more quid won't hurt. Maybe have to sell one to help comply with FFP but then cut costs by finally draining the swamp. Noises Waggots making is self sufficiency but why try and force that model right now just because there might be plenty saleable players ? In doing so breaking up the building of a potential promotion squad in the future which would solve the self sufficiency drive overnight, for a few years at least. Leave the fire sale stuff until they have to turn the tap off again for whatever reason. As you've pointed out it'll probably end up a buyers market so hold firm no point having to sell loads to garner what you might get for one or two under normal circumstances. We can be in decent shape if they hold their nerve due to the younger players so for crying out loud don't sell them get rid of the 10k per week water carriers. Trouble is those are the ones this manager seems most fond of !

Just the usual guff in his Sunday column along the lines of Vs share price tumbling will have a knock on effect for Rovers. When he starts chiming in on this subject something usually follows.

This on the back of Nixons comments at the weekend are just priming for the inevitable. It was going to happen anyway at some point but this will have forced the issue. The borrowings will be stretched to the limit on the back the assets available to sell now. This situation can't be helped but if Vs are prepared to fund it through this crisis and these lot are saying it's ok we'll try and do it ourselves those in the middle will be rubbing their hands again. Seeing as the biggest asset is worth nothing at the moment my approach would be cut all the deadwood completely then try and keep the best young players etc. The opposite is likely to happen so fasten your seat belts these lot running it will do anything to make themselves look good in the owners eyes. Signing shite and carrying other rubbish to be nice and make up numbers will prove costly yet again i'd wager.

I suppose they could call Liverpool 'lineal' champions or something if they null and void it now. They won it but didn't win it kind of thing so in a lot of eyes they'd be the peoples champs. In reality though they'd still be the nearly men ?

I'm talking about league 1 and 2 clubs and football in general lower down the pyramid.

Iv'e every sympathy with his problems but throwing yourself in front of a moving truck is the work of a twat. Do not drag other people into your situation like that let alone risk killing them and others. That's for terrorists. -
Football has needed to hit the big reset button for a long time but they just keep pumping air into the balloon on the back of media income whilst most of the cash goes straight back out again. The price could be about to be paid, won't affect the likes of dastardly and mutley who made their money whilst the sun shone on them. Parasites like those two and many more will be laughing at it ignorant to the fact they've made the biggest contribution to the state of it all. Football bubble and the real world might be about to move towards each other again for the first time in 30 years.

First off smack down on the agents, next surely they've got to look at the other snouts in the trough. Do lge 1 & 2 clubs need CEO's etc on 1/200k ? Finally yes a wage cap and that should start at academy level so that when lower league clubs want to take those from academies further up who haven't quite yet made it they can afford it. Back to the days of sourcing players from grass roots and actually employing scouts again, fook agents off altogether and build from the bottom up !

Sports book - The Dark Trade - About the murky behind the scenes stuff etc following around some famous boxers. Football book - The Club that Jack Built - Not quite warts and all but an interesting account of Rovers rise under Jack. I like any autobiography of football and sports most colourful characters, dying breed. Most from the last 5 years on will only need do a blog that'll cover everything because they trumpet every modern boring stereotypical thing they do daily via social media !
