Rovers vs Reading at Virtual Ewood
Miker replied to Lancs Rover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
It’ll be interesting to see their approach. Their top of the table so surely want to keep picking up wins and won’t just sit back, but they’ll obviously be wary we are the top scoring team in the division right now. I think this game will play to our strengths and we have nothing to fear. I’m predicting a win. I’d stick with the same 11 providing there’s no players with fitness/injury issues. Ayala in for Lenihan would be the only change I’d like TM to make. -

Kaminski has been an absolutely fantastic signing. Early days, but I think he'll become our best keeper since Friedel. We will miss him if he's out, but I think Pears should be a capable deputy. Awesome to have this squad depth and I think it will hold us in good stead to make the playoffs. -

Brereton has a 9.99 rating on Whoscored for today's game. Incredible performance - just unfortunate not to get a goal himself! -

Imagine if Brereton and Holtby could just find their scoring boots... -

I spoke too soon! Gally just went on a nice driving run into their box. Must be at least 1 more goal in there somewhere.. -

Buckley and Bell have done pretty well since coming on. Gally not so much. -

Having Douglas, Trybull, Elliott, Holtby and JRC in the squad makes such a big difference. Their passing range is far better than the players they've replaced in the team, so we're able to be more creative and exploit the gaps better. -

Brereton you beauty! Wins a penalty and a red card to boot. -

For me, Lenihan needs to be dropped as soon as Ayala comes back. He has had several poor games in a row and doesn't deserve to be starting with Ayala available and Williams' form. -

That would be my team as well. Anything but a win unacceptable, especially after the disappointing dropped points in the last 3 games. -
It was interesting that the only time he got really serious while talking was in discussing Mowbray. I think there was a mutual respect there and he clearly felt hard done by not getting enough starts but end of the day Mowbray got more out of him than most managers and despite his claims of being out of the squad he played a part in most games. Pours cold water on the claims that Mowbray is soft on the players and is too nice with them.

You want to play Wharton after his performance against Watford? He looked well out of his depth and made an already shaky looking defence look even worse. Williams has been one of our best players this season. 3 clean sheets with him in the team, 0% win rate with him out. -

Own goal, missed penalty, injury to Ayala - just not our day today. The positive - we dominated in every department against one of the best teams in the division. The negative - domination counts for nothing if we don't get the 3 points. Feel really frustrated tonight, but I'm chalking it up to an unstable team at the minute. Elliott, Trybull, and Douglas all need to come into the first 11 on Saturday. -

What a save from Kaminski there after Wharton put us in trouble. -

End of the day there was no creativity in the squad to create decent chances for Armstrong. It was very frustrating to see Gallagher brought on on the right wing again when clearly we were struggling to break Forest down passing it around them. Gallagher to his credit won several aerial challenges when he first came on, but his chances were few and far between out on the wing. Given Armstrong was probably our most creative player on the pitch (other than maybe Buckley), it would have made way more sense to shift Armstrong out wide to help create chances, and have Gallagher through the middle and focus on getting crosses into him to at least try something different. Bringing Brennan on as well was a mistake imo. Forest are doing poorly but probably have one of the best sides in the league, so to bring him on for his debut with the scores at 0-0 just seemed daft. We should have just stuck to it with the 11 we had on the field, but either tried a different tactic or formation if we really wanted to try and nick a win. Being harsh on Mowbray here because we had way too many players out, but some of his decisions cost us today and he has to take some of the blame.

Absolutely disgusted by that. 0-0 and it's a decent result at a time when several of our best players are missing. 0-1 and it feels like major regression.
-
That tackle from Brereton was absolutely pathetic.
-
Beautiful pass from Nyambe there - unlucky that Gallagher's pullback couldn't find anyone. Feels like there's a goal coming... just hope it's for us!

Gallagher has looked good since coming on, give the guy a break.
