  1. I think one thing's for sure, we haven't seen a finish to the season like this for many a year. I can't remember the last time I have checked the league table on a daily basis and with such interest. Although it's nerve-racking, the fact that Spurs, Arsenal, Wankies, West Ham etc have all probably got the same sort of interest and fully believe that their team can clinch that last Champions League spot. As for the uncertainty that is surrounding the apropriate qualifications with regards final league position, I think the powers that be should simply award the top-four a Champions League spot and then the next three/two a UEFA Cup spot (or however they want to have it). Whether or not a club has won a cup (or indeed merely getting to the final of a domestic cup), this should not have any bearings on who qualifies for Europe. I think it is a farce that the likes of Millwall, who got to the final of the cup a few years ago, can go into Europe in place of the likes of a Premiership team that has performed well over the course of the season. If UEFA decide that they DO want the winners of the competition to qualify for next years tournament, then I think they should try to incorporate them into the competition without disturbing the league-qualified teams.
  2. But finishing a place higher in the league means an extra £500k in prize money!
  3. Yeah fair point Rev, but I dont think the problem at Rovers is money. I was merely thinking of a way that we could reduce the prices that season-ticket holders would have to pay, that way possibly attracting more season-ticket-holders as a result. I think the club should: o Get rid of the deadwood players like Amoruso, Matteo and Gresko. I think their contracts expire soon anyway, and lets face it even if we do trim the squad, how often have we needed to play these players? It makes far more sense to have the young promising players (Taylor, Derbyshire, Garner etc) as emergency back-up, rather than overpaid mercenaries whos abilities are questionable anyway. This could also attract young players to the club. o With the money saved, we split it between bringing in new players and reducing season-tickets/matchday prices. On the playing front we can adopt a 'quality not quantity' policy (ala Wanky Wanderers), and on the ticketing front we can drastically reduce prices and possibly attract more long-term fans. Don't reply with the 'the quid a kid doesn't work', because I for one didn't realise this offer was applicable to the Villa game, and I know others didn't realise either. o Make a 'universal' or as near to a universal price for all areas of the ground. Too many times have people walked away because all that is left is the JW stand - and people just don't want to pay £32 to watch Rovers vs Everton! o Give the away fans the Riverside - let them be rained on when they are leaving and have to put up with the @#/? facilities. o Put the cameras on the Riverside facing the JW Stand. Let's portray ourselves as a Premiership 'big-club' not a shoddy little Coca-cola league stadium. o Get rid of the drummers and promote 'naturally progressive singing' like how it used to be. o Relocate the family stand. Its current position just does not add up for me.
  4. What!?! Amoruso is one of the biggest wastes of space we have had in recent years! The guy signed for £1.4m almost three years ago, and has played......wait for it.....16 games for the Rovers. A massive contribution? Why what did he actually do? So he scored against Wolves, and he scored against City - other than that I can't think of any impact he made, because his defending certainly was VERY suspect. So ok, he has had a few injuries but more often than not he has not been picked even for the bench because he is just not good enough. Many a time he has been seen boozing it up in Clitheroe - if he has been so unlucky with injuries surely he would be busting a gut to be fit again, and maybe shed a few pounds? Christ knows what we're paying him, but just think how many season-tickets we could reduce if we got rid of Amoruso alone?...... If he's on £20k p/w that means he's on £1.04m p/a. If we sell 13,000 season tickets at approx £350 each that means £4.55m p/a. By getting rid of Amoruso we could knock £80 off the price of a season-ticket. Now imagine how cheap we could make season-tickets if we get rid of the likes of Matteo and Gresko, without really weakening the squad all that much???
  5. As someone on here said on here a while ago, maybe the Liverpool fans should just get over it? What better way than to remember the victims of the Hillsborough disaster than to play a Premiership game in their memory?
  6. Yeah but if the clubs start pricing the fixtures to meet the needs of an average executive fan, surely they are just going to alienate the real fans and eventually price them out the game. In the end, the only people attending football matches will be executive supporters, who will stop coming because there is no atmosphere - because the only people who create that atmosphere is the real fans!!!!
  7. I disagree. I was impressed with Pongolle - he's improving with every game and showed some lovely touches and passes. I agree that Dickov did do well when he came on, but then again any player that harrasses the opposition and has a bit of pace about them will do well when coming on against tired legs. I thought Bellamy showed that he is almost at full sharpness - that twenty yard run and one-two late on in the game showed his desire and confidence. If we are to push on next season and (hopefully) do well in Europe, then we desperately need to sign a 'penalty box' striker. Although I rate Bellamy, Dickov and Pongolle highly, none of them would be classed as poachers - I think we need someone in the same physical mould as Kuqi - but a bit of skill please.
  8. Chelsea sing about Steve Cotterill's wife? Well I'll be damned.
  9. Apologies if this has already been done, but does anybody think there are any players in the Sunderland, Portsmouth, Birmingham and West Brom squads that are worth potentially getting on the cheap? Arca, Dunn, Heskey and Paul Robinson spring to mind for me - just wondering the thoughts of others?
  10. I'm up for any Pro Evo tournament but only on the PS2.
  11. Surely that can't be real? I thought I was a good player, but videos like this just prove me wrong!
  12. I think it would be unfair to say that the drummers have ruined the atmosphere at Ewood Park - there are many factors involved - but they certainly haven't improved it. Just some of the problems at Ewood: - The Family Stand. Right so we try and make a section of our ground exclusive to the more 'vocal' suporters, only for the most 'vulnarable' fans and possibly less vocal fans to be situated directly above. This doesn't make sense to me. It also means that more vocal supporters can get into the BBE. Many a time have I wanted to sit in the BBE, only to find it sold out. Why put your worst set of supporters in the end that everybody else wants to sit in? - Offer the cheapest tickets in the Darwen End, Riverside towards the Darwen End, and JW Stand towards the Darwen End. If we insist on letting the chavs in, they can snap these tickets up and annoy the away support rather than the home support. At away games I always think it makes a better atmosphere if you have rowdy or vocal home supporters positioned near you. For example the Reebok Stadium and The Hawthorns. - Get rid of the drummer, but also get rid of the crappy cheesy music they insist on playing at five million decibels too high. I'm only 20 and it hurts my ears, never mind the more 'sensitive' supporters amongst us. Let the atmosphere build itself up, because by offering silence you are encouraging people to make noise. Why would people attempt to sing when there is a guy in an office at Ewood battling it out with the fans just by increasing the volume of the PA system? - It seems like Ewood (and football in general) is gearing itself towards a cheesy and over-commercialised matchday experience not too dissimilar to an American Baseball game. I don't go to Ewood because I want to hear music and have half-time entertainment - I go because I want to watch football, have a few pints, have a pie and shout lots. ------- I've said it before and I'll say it again - at Ewood they also need to put the TV camera on the Riverside facing the JW Stand, because this is basically the difference between advertising a team with a modern Premiership stadium, or one that belongs in the Fizzy Pop League.
  13. I think I read that Paul Scholes may lose a high percentage of sight in his eye as a result of his injury earlier this season. And then of course we remember Bjornebye's fractured eye socket injury in the latter stages of his Rovers career. It's a bit cruel when a football injury will blight a players life AFTER football, aswell as cutting short their career. Mind you, there is that story about that Scottish player (I think he plays for Dundee?) that has been blind in one eye since the age of about six. He's still done alright for himself.
  14. You seem to have misunderstood me. I wasn't suggesting that we get rid of Pedersen, but we may receive an offer that is just too good to refuse.
  15. I think he has said it in an interview. Apparently Hakan Suker used to take breaks from training to get his praying in. I reckon he did more praying than training though.
  16. Didn't see the goal so I can't really comment about that, but I do think some people are getting a little carried away here. Let's remember that Derbyshire is playing in a Mickey Mouse league at the moment compared to the supreme quality that is needed in the Premier League. Having said that, I haven't seen him play all that much and I suppose it's refreshing to hear people talk so enthusiastically about one of our prospects. We all know Kuqi is absolutely dogger when it comes to football. Why isn't Hughesy trying out some of our youngsters - perhaps on the bench as a replacement for Pongolle and Bellamy. We all know what an effect a fresh batch of youngsters can have on a team, and not only that if we gain a reputation for giving youngsters a fair chance, we will have a much better chance of snapping up the brightest talent around. Sergio Peter has been given his chance and I think we can all agree he looks VERY promising, and in a way has effectively an untimely transfer of Morten Gamst Pedersen in the summer. Not that I wish to get rid of The Ped, it's just exciting to know that we have players in the backgound just waiting to step into the boots of our supposed 'big name' players. Why can't we have one for the strikers?
  17. That doesn't make sense to me. We're aren't going to sell-out against Liverpool so why go to a game just to make your chances of obtaining a ticket higher? The attendance last night was very poor, but I think at this time of year when games are coming thick and fast and people aren't exactly loaded, Sunderland at home on a Wednesday night doesn't exactly inspire the supporters. I, for example, was planning to go to the original Sunderland home game as I had nothing better to do. Last night however, I didn't have the money, I had already made plans, and it was the day after Valentine's when I'd perhaps spent money that I wouldn't normally have spent. People must stop talking about low crowds as purely a lack of enthusiasm, passion or support - and start considering the circumstances! If an Everton fan doesn't want to go to a game, you can bet that there will be another fan waiting to buy their ticket. At the Rovers, if someone doesn't want to go, it's simply another empty seat. We just don't have the required fanbase to match the league position of the club. Incidentally, Wanky Wanderers only got 19k on against Marseille in the Uefa Cup.
  18. Actually in theory it's a three-horse race as a draw is a possible result.
  19. I think our academy is ranked up there alongside the best in the world. I've heard it compared to the likes of Ajax Amsterdam's - and that is a real complement.
  20. Even names that have been starred-out so not to reveal their 'true' identity?
  21. Ricky - why don't admin do some research into the ins and outs of making 'allegations' on a football fans' messageboard. Surely as football is rife with opinions, bent statistics and 'allegations', this is all that can be expected on a messageboard for football? And doesn't a post with someone saying that this is a 'rumour' that they have heard mean the allegation is some what nullified into a run of the mill piece of gossip? It's not as though anyone is stating names of players and then saying that this is a fact.
  22. That doesn't tell the whole story though. A few of those goals have been circumstancial individual errors rather than plain poor defensive play in general. Not to mention the fact that two of these matches were against arguably the second best team in the league with a strikeforce of VanHorseface, Rooney, Saha and Ronaldo - four players which cost double what our entire squad probably cost. The statistics do look alarming though.
  23. Right, sorry to hear that Paul. I don't appear to have the same issues when going to an away game as yourself - I just thought in general that a packed Hawthorns seemed a lot more buzzing than a packed Ewood (if I can remember that far back). As for the noise level, your comments surprise me. Now I haven't been to many games this season due to work, but the the tannoy at Ewood always seem excruciatingly loud. Now perhaps this depends on where you sit, but I tend to vary my seating arrangements for home games and have found this to be the case in most positions. I think the 'corners' at stadiums such as The Hawthorns, St Andrew's, St James' etc have a positive effect on the atmosphere, but as far as Premiership grounds go ours has got to be one of the worst. Middlesborough and Fulham seem to have poor support, but it baffles me when clubs such as Bolton, WBA and Portsmouth seem to have more vocal and maybe even more passionate support than us.
  24. Nah I just think he had a bad day meself. For me, he had all the right ideas, and his vision was as fantastic as ever. He just looked jaded (as did the rest of the team) and that results in sloppy passes and being caught in possession. Anyway, I just think that we are far higher than any of would have predicted at the start of the season, never mind if we knew Bellamy was going to be injured for 3/4 of the season! We had a bad day - let's just move on because I'm sure Hughes will be scrutinising every single aspect of the performance at the Hawthorns.
