Will Mowbray be gone at the end of the season?
RevidgeBlue replied to skous18's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Spot on Stuart. A more helpful question would be (Even if the decision had previously been taken to allow Mowbray to leave in a relatively dignified manner in the summer) If we lose tomorrow is there anyone out there who could put a smile on the players faces and give us a short term "new manager bounce until the end of the season? Any suggestions? Sparky? Martin O Neill? -

We're in major trouble if Rotherham win tonight and we lose tomorrow night. -
It would also have to be under a new manager and coaching staff who were here for the long term and who had us flying and who were of the same mind before it was worth considering. Anyone know how much 60 acres of land at Whitebirk would cost? I just can't see how a replacement facility in an inferior location makes any sense at all. Of course, we'll see if alternative plans are pursued at some point or whether the be all and end all was to sell some land for housing and the latest piece in the LT was merely a bit of propaganda designed to make the scheme sound like a good idea all along but one which was unfortunately thwarted by NIMBY local residents. The solution is simple, if you're worried about the £1.9 m net running costs of the Academy, employ a manager who doesn't pay the likes of Mulgrew and Ayala more NOT to play for us!

"Whether it was defined as a big chance" you can't use that as a criteria it's completely subjective! To give it some sort of credibility it'd have to have some form of definition I.e. not more than ten yards out between the goal posts etc. Edit: Oops Brian beat me to it.

So in the latest Sharpe propaganda piece in the Telegraph it's freely admitted the one site wouldn't suffice for Cat 1 status yet Waggott was quite happy to press on with it until he was caught out. Why isn't Sharpe concentrating on that instead of claiming an alternative is necessary? Also is the bit about EFL profit and sustainability rules factually correct? I thought spending on infrastructure was exempt.

Jim, why are you wrecking this vitally important thread by being pedantic about the technical definition of a journalist? If Waggott survives long enough I wouldn't put it past him to come back with a completely different but equally pointless and potentially damaging scheme so let's stick to the real issues please.

It's a disgraceful state of affairs though. The situation has been allowed to deteriorate to the point where are only options are to try and get some sort of fee for them this summer or let them walk for nothing next. And the manager is "relaxed" about it. Perhaps he hits his pension targets in 12 months.

First comment on the LT site is from someone called "Mowbray's Magic" bemoaning the fact that "Where are the cost savings we need going to come from?" Could someone go on and point out we could start by employing a manager who doesn't spend more than the annual £1.9 m net cost of running the Academy on paying the likes of Mulgrew and Ayala not to play for us? And by not paying £300k p.a. to a CEO who has decimated the fan base by putting prices up during a pandemic and wasted copious amounts of Club money on a scheme which, if the aim was as stated to maintain Cat 1 status, was doomed from the outset. I can't seem to post a reply on there, it keeps saying it's sending me an email mail link to confirm which never arrives. It's not a recent thing. Should get a few hours out of it before it gets taken down.

🤣 Think he'd take a deal until the end of the season?

Funnily enough I remember John Pickering quite fondly. Did he start immediately after Jim Iley was sacked? When you combine his stats with those of Iley it's no surprise at all we were relegated that season. Alas, no billionaire owners or £7m or £5m players or the equivalent thereof in those austere days.

But in footballing terms what would be the advantage? You'd just be at best replacing like for like in a different location. If we had nothing to start with then you could understand the anxiety to acquire a new site. However the sites we already have are as good if not better than we could get anywhere. Am I alone in thinking the location of the training facilities at Brockhall is a major selling point for the Club in attracting players? If we want to improve the facilities we should look at viable ways to upgrade them where they are imo.
