Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
RevidgeBlue replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Everyone not from this part of the world probably thinks the same about us as well. Apart from maybe the 1992-1995 years. -
The one silver lining from our latest implosion is likely to be that they cant just just sweep the Eustace debacle under the carpet on the back of the appointment of a new Head Coach. Im stating the bleeding obvious to an extent here but depite the various postponements of the meeting the same considerations apply as to when Eustace was on the point of leaving plus additional concerns about the appointment of Ismael. 1) Need Waggott and Pasha both there. 2) As 2 promising managers have walked out on them in 12 months, needs to be put to them "Is it not incumbent on you both to resign?" 3) Need to ask them to specify exactly what it was that made them think Ismael was the outstanding candidate for the job after two recent managerial failures. 4) Need to ask them to explain their logic in refusing to extend the contract of a manager who had done well for them beyond the end of next season but being willing to grant a guy who's an unknown quantity for us a three and a half year deal. You normally get very prickly and defensive whenever the role of the forum is questioned but this is getting crucial now. I know that for the Club the Forum is basically a box ticking exercise and that in happier times all the Forum should have to worry about is what flavour pies are on sale in the concourse. However, rightly or wrongly you're the only supporters' group that has a chance to sit down with the Club. You have to make it count. Recently the Forum has gained some additional traction for the first time after cut and paste merchant Jackson started reproducing what was in the minutes. The Forum has to ask the difficult questions, push back hard on any nonsense they come out with in response and make sure the push back is fully recorded in the minutes. Good luck.

Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach

To get back to Ismael, when Nixon claimed him and Wagner were down to the final two, I said the appointment of either would leave me feeling "flat as a pancake". That remains the case but I dont think anyone could have predicted quite how much of a disaster his appointment would have been. In the last 3 games we've conceded the opening goal after three minutes, nineteen minutes and four minutes! We've gone from being in and around the play off positions all season to being completely uncompetitive within games. Say what you like but for me that's the sign of a team that's clocked off mentally, the players just arent having this fella at all. We probably thought we'd seen it all after the O Brien then the Mcguire debacles. However as a deliberate act of sabotage, refusing to compromise with the popular Eustace over his own contract and player extensions, and then giving this guy who had no obvious qualities to make him a suitable candidate a three and a half year deal, well that will sure take some beating. -

"Unfashionable" might not be unfair, To call them "two absolute non- entities" definitely is. -

That's very unfair. I watched Spurs v Bournemouth last week and they were absolutely brillant, played Spurs off the pitch and could have won by 5 or 6. It doesnt matter what your "size" or background is if you have a good manager and a good set up behind the scenes. Bournmouth seem to have happened on two successive wealthy owners who have been extremely good for them. Listened to an excerpt from an interview with Bournemouth's current American owner last week and he sounded incredibly enthusiastic about their future with massive plans for their infrastructure. What a difference from our owners who appear to have lost any limited interest they once had and management desperately trying to screw every last penny out of it before the gravy train is finally involved in a fatal crash. -

Have always said Hyam is an absolute liability unless he's alongside someone who's playing particularly well, i.e. Scott Wharton for a period or Batth. -

You should know the site rule by now, blame Pears for everything including black death and bubonic plague. There's only him on thr pitch. -

As the Chief critic of Eustace's decision to up sticks and leave for Derby, what do you make of our Club's decision not to offer him an extension on his deal which ran out at the end of next season, but to give the current bloke a 3 and a half year deal? -

Think it's pretty obvious that the players arent having this bloke. Agent Ismael has done his job for this season but even Waggott might be scratching his head about now wondering how he's going to keep our heads above the relagation places next season. -

Agreed. Should let the young no. 3 keeper have a crack. If he played in any other position on the pitch he'd be getting some sort of chance -

Wonder if the players knew about the impending arrival of Valerian when they downed tools at Swansea as well? -

It's obviously not fair to say that he should be sacked after 2 games but I can't see why it's unfair to pass judgement on his first 2 games and imo its been an absolutely dsmal start. The majority of the time you'd expect a "new manager bounce" and the players to look like they're prepared to run through a brick wall for the new man. At least until the honeymoon period wears off. That hasn't happened with us, in fact arguably we've gone worse. We were also extremely lucky to finish with ten men on the pitch against Norwich! I didnt want him as manager in the first place and there's something about him I cant really warm to therefore Im probably somewhat biased against him until he proves me wrong. However I have a very bad feeling about the appointment, I think he's completely the wrong fit, he's not someone anyone seemingly really wanted as manager (probably not even the Club) and bizarrely we've given a 3 and a half year deal to someone who's never lasted more than a year anywhere he's been. If I had to predict, I'd expect this season to tail off spectacularly, our better players to be wanting out, him to be refused funding to rebuild the squad in the style he wants in the summer and to be very unhappy as a result and for us to be firmly rooted in the bottom 3 by the time ten games of next season have passed. Whether we'd be willing or could afford to part Company with him in that situation is anyone's guess. Just standard sort of fare for being a Blackburn Rovers supporter these days I suppose. -

Seems that way. Why would you refuse to extend the deal of a Coach who was doing well for you but hand a longer deal out instead to a completely unknown quantity? -

For me, we've gone from a "we're all in it together" type manager to a disciplinarian. Was always a big risk the players wouldnt take to him. Maybe that was Waggott's hope. -

We havent had a new manager bounce off this bloke at all. And I think thats a bit of an understatement. -

Just a hunch but when a group of players dont like the manager they suddenly go down with a lot more injuries -

Just seen an article on FLW alleging Toth is on 10k p.w. For a Club that's allegedly skint we dont half like wasting money on players that dont contribute like Toth, Sigurdsson, Dennis, Woodrow etc. Absolutely ludicrous
