[Archived] Poll - Falling Attendances.

Rovers are a victim of their own successes. Firstly when we were promoted in the days of 1991 we had King Kenny and the club was on a massive upper, we win promotion spend a few bob and hey presto 4th, 2nd then the Championship. It was the following season that set the trend we now find ourselves in. Rovers failed to build on that championship team which ultimately resulted in the break up of the squad. after short forays into Europe we ended up with relegation, all the time our crowd dwindling, at the same time add the fact that the cost of watching football soared and unemployment figures increased. A short stay in the first division helped win some fans back but, as clearly stated previously, after the Worthy Cup win we have been served at Ewood with a mixture of dross, crap and utter sh**e. Some of us fans are fortunate to get to away games, and I for one can say that our away form is 100% better or was over the past 2 seasons. That is the simple reasoning behind it all. No matter what John Williams has promised, no matter what efforts he has put into bringing fans back to Ewood, the fairweather fans (and I am being very diplomatic) have seen fit to still remain away from Ewood due to the performances. You can add more reasons from the following: a. becoming a selling club (I dont mean Dunn and Duff) b. limited budgets resulting in players with limited amounts of skill c. no commercialism skills whatsoever in respect of merchandising d. the continued spiralling costs e. a complete dislike of sourness and his merry men f. no directiveness on or off the field football wise g. too many excuses h. a poor behind the scenes coaching set up i. a refusal to blood the youth prospects (please dont mention Stead) j. media reports of the problems within the club k. continual beratement of referees rather than addressing our on the pitch problems l. excuses excuses but no responsiblity m. gross mismanagement of club transfer funds and finally a serious lack of communication with the fans and public. there are probably many more which I have failed to mention and I am sure that other members will add them. -

prof Gray has been the only attacking player down the left, he is simply showing Pedeerson what is required for the left midfield berth. as it stands and IMO Pederson needs to be educated in the reserves. OHHNNOOOO I hear you cry ! At the moment I think Rovers should be playing Gresko at left back (if fit) and Gray/De Pedro on the left midfield. It sort of balances the side up. Emerton is slowly breaking the shackles of Sourness from his legs as we saw in the second half. the whole feeling on Saturday was not that we had won, not that we had a new manager nor that we had a bit of luck when Fuller looked for the dive, the feeling was of a new dawn and fresh ideas. i just hope that mssrs Hughes,Bowen and Nedzweicki can harness the huge amount of talent we have coming through and reap the rewards. -

a good performance wasn't the order of the day, it was the result that mattered. Performances can be a lot better, more like starting the game like the second half from the off against Charlton next Monday. If Rovers can get a positive result there, and we have no reason why we shouldn't, then that will really kick off the season especially with the international break looming. -

well look at it this way last season we lost this match 2-1 If sourness had remained in charge we would undoubtedly lost today Hughes has instilled already a unity amongst the players - this is evidenced in the way they fought for every 50-50 challenge, the way they stood together at the end and the way they came off the pitch together. This was never there in the last 12 months of the sourness era. I think its a massive step and now we have a week where the club can rest players, work them as a unit, let the kids and peripheral players take the field in the cup matches in reaienss for a tough outing at charlton. -

neither psychic or psychotic Rad I have the club in my veins and I know exactly what it means to be part of Blackburn Rovers FC as many on here are alike. I can tell you without even thinking about it as can most of board members. in fact I will add the fact that he probably got a point bonus in his wage packet at the same time ! Heart and consideration is the way Matt Jansen applauded the crowd, love and adoration is the way tugay salutes the fans at the end of every game, feeling for the club is the togetherness of the players and the management. Now that final one is something we have not had at Ewood since winning promotion back to the PL or the Worthy Cup Final. -

well they have two opportunities before Charlton away the reserve game at Blackpool and the cup game. I would rest both Dickov and Stead, Fergie, Matteo, Niell, Gray and Emerton. Bring in the likes of Nissa, Gallacher,Donnelly,Bruce,Corvoni and Peter and ensure that in the Lancs cup the likes of Barker and Garner (JHC The Memories) get a decent run out -

Greggy When Sourness ran down the touchline at winkers stadium it was out of relief rather than caring for his players and in particular the supporters. Maybe sometimes his attitudes was misdirected -

It was nice to have someone in the dug out who seemed to care about his decision making, cared about the team formation and cared about the result. Not to mention the appreciation of the supporters. -

ll there is one more thing about his departure When Matt Jansen was being interviewed in the tunnel after the match you could clearly see this message written all over his face "Sourness, you made one hell of a cock up. I hope you get what you deserve at Southampton tomorow, absolutley FAFF ALL) -

RD Looa looa was not even playing the Yak got crunched first minute by short and flitcroft and was so far out of the game it made him miss a one on one from 13 yards. Fuller was just the plonker that he is, useless, although he did hit the outside of the post in the first half. For the penalty shout, couldnt get a clear view but looked liked a swan dive following a miss by friedel -

well peeps just back in Leyland from the game and the weather is glorious, the England cricket team face the Aussies in the semi final next week, the Ryder cup team are doing okay as we speak and the Rovers have just pulled off a great result to welcome the new manager. Pleased ? I am bloody delerious. As for the match, well lets say firstly it was not a classic. It was one of those games that you felt we had to win for any number of reasons. a. to win for the new manager. b. to win to boost condifence. c. to win to excite a dreary crowd in the doldrums d. to win to kick start the season after a terrible start. before today I can honestly say I was dreading the game, pompy are on an up and we are on a downer, they have pace in abundance up front and a work ethic second to none. But we are here to talk about our team and here is my summary. Freidel - passenger Neill - steady but gave too many loose balls away in the first 60 mins, needs to learn to close defenders down Gray - steady usual performance Matteo - played well how he didnt score with the outside of his left foot is a mystery. Best game in a Rovers shirt Short - was playing well until his injury Ferguson - man of the match but went missing for 15 minutes second half. Emerton - a good game but why oh why cant he have the confidence to shoot and so nearly scored a super goal with his left foot, crossing poor Flitcroft - steady won a lot of 50-50 balls nothing fancy Pederson - clearly out of his depth Dickov - annoying little c$$$ but a great performance - deserved a goal Stead - too lightweight, not enough balls to feed off, low in confidence subs Amoruso - good outing, nearly scored ***Jansen*** Sourness are you really sure he needs confidence, great finish and thanks Matt you showed your appreciation to the Rovers faithful. Bothroyd - clearly a handfull and did okay. I dont aim to take any negatives from today. Only POSITIVES. Clean sheet Home win Jansen scores Team togetherness and finally I am pretty positive that young Pederson needs to be played in the reserves for a while to learn the English way of football. He is a lost soul in the dark. Thanks for a great saturday evening, the dog can rest assure safe in the knowledge that his leader is in a happy mood, the wife and kids can come into the front room without fear of an angry husband/dad and the off licence will make a few more bob when I go and buy my nightly allowance in about 15 minutes. -

something noone may have picked upon on their magnificent performance for their new manager. Souness appears to have taken his injury curse with him No change with his after match comments His first class replacement in Johnny Foreigner smacks of desperation, I just wonder if Souness had contemplated him signing for Rovers. In a way I am seriously glad he left before wasting more money.
