[Archived] Souness Goes To Newcastle
Hughesy replied to Brownie's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
From a geordie message board Lee B Shepherd has lost the plot completely!!!! We sack a manager that has achieved 10 times what Souness has achieved and recruit someone who just managed to avoid relegation last year! This is a progressive step?? Tony B "Catastrophy. 48 years of suffering for that lot - what an Earth for? They'll never win anything, they'll never command respect. Shepherd is a complete fool and there's no way of getting shot of him. No more. Seymours, Westwoods, Rutherfords, McKeags, Halls and Shepherds. Like a history of cartoon buffoons out of Brass. One thing in common - absolutely no understanding of what it takes to run a successful football club." Steven M "Absolute disgrace. Boycott Blackburn game immediately." Jamie L Sacking a manager and replacing him with one who is two places below him in the league. His record in 2004 is played 24 - won 6! Alan R -

I have to agree with some posts on this board and I agree totally that we need to thank Souness for his time with the club. Souness was a class manager who I admired, especially when he was going off his head on the sidelines. I believe he had taken us as far as he could and now, I just hope we can find the right replacement who isn’t going to mess the club up like Kidd did. Please do not sign Walter Smith!!!! Once again, thank you Mr Souness. You did good and good luck for Newcastle. However touch Big Brad and you will be hated! Take Emerton and you will be a legend! -
Much bigger job than managing us though. Its his home town and no doubt it would be much greater expectations

Birmingham have spent a fair chunk, what have they won?? Should bruce therefore be sacked? -
Who me? why?

I think with the midfielders we have then there is no room for tugay, and to be honest i dont think we should of extended his contract. For now, Ferguson and Flitty in the middle, until thommo regains full fitness. Did he get injured against manure or not?

I just think that if you're doing a bad job as a manager then you should be given the chop. Regardless, of how nice/old/funny/loyal etc. you are. Obviously, you don't get rid of managers after a few bad results. But if you enter an apparent irreversible spiral of decline than you have to consider a change. Especially if it involves a club who've spent as much money as Newcastle have. Spent as much as newcastle?? How much did they spend this summer? Or how many players did they purchase? -
[Archived] Striker Signs!
Hughesy replied to Blackpool_Rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I for one am glad that we have got rid of Yorke and cole and have brought in some younger additions. If you ask me then id say having Stead, Gally, Jay, Dickov and jansen as in there you have 5 strikers who all want to play and all want to prove themselves. Yorke and Cole have already proven themselves in the past so i felt that they believed they didnt have to work as hard. 10/10 for the signings, given our financial climate -
Why cut and paste Dale Johnson's profile on Souness, it would have been easier to have posted a link to the full article, instead of taking comments out of contect. Dale Johnson - Graeme Souness Profile. The link is on page 14 then!

I didnt say it, the guy who did the report on soccernet did, but i have to say i agree with him
-
Agreed, topics merged. Sorry

Souness has proved himself to be one of the best managers in the Premiership working on a small budget. He may claim Rovers have reached their full potential by claiming sixth place in the table, but he has the ability to take the club further. REMEMBER THIS!!!

So this man has helped us achieve big improvements over the years but now we are in a sticky patch. We had a poor season last year and we have started with 2 disapoiting games against West Brom and Southampton. So how long exactly does everyone think Souness be given if the bad run continues? I for one dont want Souness to go and dont think we have anyone who could do a good job in replacing him. So what does everyone else feel? Mid November if the poor run continues?
