The January 2026 Transfer Window
KentExile replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
should have been able to convert Toth at the beginning of January Gueye qualified for a standard work permit, Kargbo, Henriksson & Baradji are the other ESC slots -

Ah yes, I remember about Gueye now. Shows how pointless the point system is when someone like Gueye automatically qualifies but a better player, like Toth for example, doesn't. I'd imagine they'll get that Toth paperwork sorted..right after the window closes. -

So what's your usual name on here then? -

I think we should have 1 spot with Toth being converted. Gueye never had a slot. Its hard to sign a reasonable striker for a cheap fee and cheap wages. But if we put too much focus on Championship experience in the most expensive position then we will only be able to get unwanted crap. Players like Lyndon Dykes, Frey at QPR, and even then their wages might be too much. We are short of Championship experience but up front its goals and pace we need more. -

Gueye didn't take an ESC slot anyway. One available providing they convert Toth is my understanding. -

Whilst I agree that's the likely profile we get with our budget, what market do you think we should be looking at, with our obvious budgetary constraints? I'm not sure if we even have an ESC slot free anymore (until Gueye moves), can't remember. But I'm sure Kent and Wilsden can. -

Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
JHRover replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Mowbray got 5 years of running the place on a relatively big budget and was left in place without pressure despite numerous long winless runs. JDT wanted out and offered to go, even publicly took the piss out of the Chief Executive, and was left in place to derail the season as he didn't want to be here and forced his way out. That nearly relegated us and he only went after turning on Venkys and their stooge. Eustace wanted out and was in talks with other clubs yet they were happy for him to cart on in the dugout. Seemingly he had threatened to walk in the summer before they caved in to his demands. So to have Val here, playing along with the 'project', not kicking off, 3 years on his contract, even giving up his free time to hold Q and A sessions at £35 a pop, yeah he's as safe as you could ever imagine, as long as he's happy to go along with the ride. Football results? League position? Performances? Why would anyone take an interest in those things? The owners and board haven't done for many years. -

Did he make any claims about the potential timing and quantity of any signings? Was he asked why we havent signed the players we "expected to" before Hull? -

agreed, it sounds like a genuine cut price alternative, or a wonderfully well pitched bit of nonsense, to stir up the forum. It sounds very Rovers -

Youan would also make sense as a cut-price alternative to Reyes Cleary, similar profile of versatile forward with some pace, though perhaps more record as a striker. -

We do have a track record of returning to targets we were linked with in the past, not sure if that makes our scouting team persistent or uminaginative? -

I think @MarkBRFC's suggestion that we'll sign Mullin is looking more and more likely. They'll just wait a little longer to avoid maximum backlash. -

As I mentioned in my last championship review, at any other club Ismael and his staff would be under significant pressure, as would the owners and board. Here, if you didn't know any better you'd assume we were right up there challenging for a playoff place rather than stuck in an endless relegation scrap. Zero pressure. -

My point was only that his goals record there isn't as good as people are making out. When adjusted for the league it's likely worse than the goals scored by a striker who is criticised for not scoring enough, and his work rate may have improved but it would have to be by a hell of a lot to be on Ohashi's level so it's another area he isn't as good. So I'm not bothered we sold him as it stands. He may well be better than Gueye, but the failure wasn't selling Leonard (who probably helped fund Gudjohnsen who is better). The failure was in not also shifting and upgrading on Gueye. But yes I wouldn't have objected to loaning him instead, unless it meant no Gudjohnsen. Although as we have seen, these loaning clubs often seem less likely to give our loanees regular minutes than when they sign them permanently. I remember Fisher getting no game time at all I think when we loaned him to MK Don's or AFC Wimbledon. Then they signed him the next summer for free and immediately he became their first choice. -

It does make you wonder when someone joins a few hours ago, and their first post is a transfer link, which they seem to have "dropped and then ran" That being said, it sounds cheap and shit enough to be true, so either thanks for the info, or well played whichever is applicable -

A punt on an injury prone, allegedly lazy and disruptive Frenchman in a position we don't use in our tactics? Glad we're 1 step ahead this January -

I wanted Youan when we were linked last year, not prolific but plays all across the front three, mostly from left or as a striker. First two years at Hibs in 22/23 and 23/24 were very good. His best recent run for Hibs came in December last year when he was playing striker, couple of goals and an assist, but then was injured for pretty much rest of season. Not an inspiring signing, but a decent back-up forward imo, scored a couple last weekend vs Kilmarnock as a striker. -

Sounds very plausible. Heavily linked with him last year and in the final 6 months of his deal at Hibs. Hibs are trying to bring in Cadamateri which suggests they think one of their forwards may be moving on. He's got pace I suppose. -
