daren Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 hahhaha, Apparently, the Tottenham boards have offered a ridiculous fee for Nicko. Half of us want to sell because he might leave anyway, half of us don't because he might not, and 3/4 of us are preparing effigies to be burned just in case. West Ham might jump in (god knows they're butting in on everything else). Birmingham are "too big a club" for Nicko. Sunderland have gone for the Championship version, but paid over the odds. Newcastle offered him the sun, moon and stars, but are having problems giving him anything at all. Burnley have a six fingered version who can't write and who's dad's his mum, but are determined that he's better than anything on the Rovers board. And at the end of the day, Nicko's the only one who knows whether he'll stop posting or not. Edit: I'm quite tickled by the idea that the only reason we're getting so much information is that he hasn't figured out how to log off. I know it's not true, but it makes me laugh anyway.

Back in business. I would have failed a medical anyway. Santa Cruz signing was a very good PR exercise and he did well to pose for pix and sign autographs. A good day all round
they_think_its_all_rover Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Do you have any idea why Skysports News seem to be failing to show it?
Antgrad Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Do you have any idea why Skysports News seem to be failing to show it? Because its Blackburn. Like "who cares?" Pathetic.

nicko Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Sky were there. I don't think they did it live. It should go out soon. Roque is a very decent guy, speaks excellent English. His big pal was Owen Hargreaves. As for being 'sexiest player at the World Cup' - I will leave that to other people to judge. The manager seems very pleased. Thought it was interesting that it emerged Roque was first choice for 'about four or five weeks.' So we got lucky with the name when we did. The chairman said Sparky kept going back to Roque despite other names coming into the frame. Can't think who. Hopefully more of the story in the papers tomorrow.
nicko Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 The old knee is it Nicko? No, the old fatal lack of ability problem.

Thats intresting that he was our no1 target cheers for the info nicko. How did u get into sports jurno btw?
sussexrover Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I'm sure he was high up in our priorities and the 4-5 week timescale suggests that as soon as the Bellamy deal seemed unlikely he prob became a serious option. But in all honesty, Hughes was hardly going to sit there and say that we wanted somebody else. Remember McLaren was 'always' Englands number 1 choice.
nicko Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I accept what you say about Bellamy, the timing fits. However that one was always going to be hard because of the cost. To be fair to the manager he has been on Roque's case from about the time we had the name. It took time for several reasons, but he stuck at it and got his man. PS - can yer man dunnfc send me a personal message re sports journalism and I will reply. Tried sending 'cold' and failed miserably. It would bore the ass off anyone else, anyway.
Dunnfc Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 cheers nicko my internet is being slow so icons aint showin or flashin.
nicko Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Something wrong at this end too. For those not interested...look away now. But for the prospective journos. I went to the Mirror Group training scheme in Plymouth about 30 years ago because they gave you the chance to specialise in sport. Did the usual local news stuff in the first year and then did sport in my second year as an 'extra.' There was a deal with the Mirror to go onto one of their papers, I went to Manchester on the Daily and then went on from there. If you want a start the local papers are OK but basically use you as cheap labour. Better to find a course where you can get your qualifications, take your time, make contacts and get a job. Cheers anyway.

Yeah and Javi De Pedro was our no.1 choice according to JW & GS despite the brief dalliance with trying to sign some Norwegian left midfielder.
Lee Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Any pictures knocking about? Here you go And there's one picture there that keeps it on topic

Backroom trueblue Posted July 31, 2007 Backroom Posted July 31, 2007 Seems to me, Nicko is showing and saying something to Roque in that photo.......what could it be? The Santa-Clause ??
USRoverME Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Speaking of clauses, any word if there is a clause in Sant's contract?

Come to think about it I'm half qualified already!
nicko Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Rovers won the Lancashire Senior Cup tonight. It was 5-2 when I left. Joe Garner got a hat-trick of striker's goals. Might be enough to earn him a move. Dundee United boss Craig Levein was there to see him and has to be impressed. He could have been sent off for banjoing a boy on the ground, mind you. Some very reasonable talent in the side. Tony Kane will make a right back and the midfielders Royston Griffiths and Brian Hodge are handy. There could be a few goood loan signings for people there. Miles better than Bolton, don't know why it was 2-2 for so long.
John Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Garner is very highly rated by the club, I would guess a loan move would be on the cards.
nicko Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Probably striker number eight just now. A year in the SPL - where he would score goals - would do the kid no harm at all. Penalty-box animal and with a nasty edge. Got a chance.
