Eddie Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 What league was Hughes in when we appointed him? Coppell has a better pedigree and is far more proven at this stage than Hughes was after a fairly indifferent spell with Wales. You are ignoring a lot of facts to dislike Coppell. He'd be a great appointment in my opinion.

AndyC Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 eddie - ancelotti is 7-1 on coral, which are better odds than betfair worth laying if you have big phil and sparky, to cover your bases! also - check this link if you want a free £10 bet. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=free+bet+...F-8&fr=moz2
nicko Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Rung my Italian contacts and they have nothing on Ancelotti going to Chelsea. I suspect its Sparky's lucky day. They might be worth calling later on...once news gets round. I think you will find Rovers allow the talks - the money will be guaranteed from Chelsea - but that AC Milan will play hard ball again. It is looking good for Sparky but there is obviously still some resistance to him at the very top at Chelsea.
nicko Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Apart from him i would try for; Rikjard Grant Advocaat Rijkaard wants a break. He could not be tempted by Chelsea, so with due respect... Grant needs a break. And a personality. Advocaat is on around £3 million-a-year tax paid plus flights and various perks. John Williams would have a coronary.
gazsimm Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Possibly the daftest question since 'What did the Romans do for us?' He has improved every club he has been at - with one obvious exception in Madchester. He talks straight, he's from up here, he gets respect from players, he is a shrewd judge. Nope, don't see the appeal. i can't see the top players we have at the club being really exicited by the appointment of Coppell. He might talk straight and come from near hear, but respect from players i don't think so. Was there not a bit of an incident at Reading last year or am i dreaming of things?. Coppell is an average manager and nothing more, i would rather have bloody Big Sam then him.

mrsjansen Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Its all getting exciting. And seems if Chelski do approach, Hughes has got what he wanted. I hope it isnt BFS, i cant see Roque wanting to play under him. Maybe Brad could be offered player/manager. I do think that he is leaving the club in a better state than what it was when he arrived.

Last year a couple of players refused to play for the reserves, he told them that they wouldn't be playing again for the rest of the season, he handled it well. He may not have respect when he first comes in, but I'd think that he'd gain it fast.

Friedel, Emerton, Nelsen, Samba, Warnock, Reid, Dunn, Pedersen, Roque, Derbyshire - would they look up to Coppell? Yes. McCarthy likes somebody one minute and does a hissy fit the next...so who cares with him. Bentley? Ditto. A couple of Reading players wouldn't play in the stiffs, He bombed them. You would have applauded that - and been right.
joey_big_nose Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Nicko has just sent shockwaves through the betting world. Hughes gone from 10/1 to the best bet being 2/1 now! How can Hughes compete with Ancelotti? The man has won the European cup. Looks like Sparky could be on his way to City and less than an ideal managerial situation of boardroom interferance, player upheaval and dubious availability of transfer funds... would serve him right for trying to game Chelsea and Rovers. If he doesn't get Chelsea he better go to City. Last thing we want is a manger who doesn't want to manage us and no compensation. I am being persuaded by those giving Copell a crack but as he seems a decent sort would he leave Reading after being supported by the board and the fans despite the relegation? Nicko would know....
Scotty Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 In case anyone has forgot, Coppell has just got Reading relegated by playing some of the most tactically inept football ever seen in the Premier League. He does nothing but talk down the expectations of his team, he moans about management in general and whether he's suitable for it, and his teams always play the same way. No ta.

But I'll check in again.
dellinsert Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 So in view of this mornings developments, is it worth betting on Allardyce for the City job?

M-K Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 What was Moyes' reputation before he went to Everton with topline stars? The next big thing with Preston, wasn't he?
nicko Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 So in view of this mornings developments, is it worth betting on Allerdyce for the City job? Already had a small dabble. But it's not at that stage yet. This would be comical if it wasn't so serious.

Do you really think the players are going to look up to a manager who has just got his team relegated (i don't think so)
cn_barlow Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 All Hughes's good work will be gone by christmas, if we appointed him. I can see that you're remaining open minded about this! Have a think about it....how many times has John Williams let us down? he got us Souness, and then went for Hughes when their were bigger names wanting the job. Whoever is appointed will be the best man for the job. end of.
Blue n White Rover Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Already had a small dabble. But it's not at that stage yet. This would be comical if it wasn't so serious. Not being awkward or anything Nicko, but could you sum up this mornings gossip for me? Ive read the thread but still confuses me
