The Harwood Yankee Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 It's either going to be no manager or someone with a maximum 2 days in the job come Saturday so why not let us trusty Rovers fans pick Saturday's team?! Let's face it, we're a right bunch of know-it-alls on here, and when else would such an opportunity arise? We know our players better than a new manager would and we've seen the different formations come & go. Maybe a poll with the most popular keeper, 4 defenders, 4 midfield and 2 strikers starting... Just to start the ball rolling, my team would look like this: Robinson Ooijer Nelsen © Samba Warnock Emerton Dunn Tugay Pedersen McCarthy Santa Cruz subs. Brown, Mokoena, Grella, Andrews, Treacy, Roberts, Derbyshire

AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The only two changes I would make to your line-up and substitutes, are the following; Robinson Ooijer - Kisha - Samba - Warnock Emerton - Dunn - Tugay - Pedersen McCarthy - Santa Cruz Subs; Brown, Nelsen, Grella, Vogel, Treacy, Roberts, Derbyshire

Vogel for Andrews I'd have no problem with - to be honest I'd forgotten about him!
Mafioso Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Is Dunn fit to start ? In my opinion i would shift Emerton back to rb. He may not be the best defender in the world but he did a pretty good job at it, plus offers us alot more going forward than Ooijer does. Lets get Olsen loaned out and give Treacy a run, I mean how badly does Pederson have to play for Treacy to be considered ?? ..........................Robinson Emerton......Nelsen..........Samba.......Warnock Derbyshire.....Dunn..........Tugay.........Treacy .................McCarthy........Roque P.S McCarthy is just a temporary alternative. Ideally we'd have a new RM and Derbs up front. Oh and looking forward to Jansen being fit. Lets give him back the number 10 shirt ! The world cup's just around the corner !!!
chorleyrover Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 well for me after watching rovers perform so far this season id pick..... ...........robinson............................. simpson...oojer...neilson...warnock.... emerton..vogel...dunn.....treacy... .....roberts .....sants cruz... fingers crossed for saturday...
neekoy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I would pick every player that hasn't played more then two games, at least they might ahve some hunger to play well to get a chance in the first team since the rest take it for granted
Lurid Coat Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 My ideal first XI would be: Robinson Simpson (Simply because he's a specialist right back and much faster than Ooijer) Zurab Ooijer Warnock Emerton Vogel Dunn Gamst Pedersen Roberts McCarthy (Santa doesn't seem up for it at all nowadays, sadly)

Sorry Accyrover
Manc Rover Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Robinson Emerton Ooijer Samba Warnock Derbyshire Vogel Dunn Pedersen RSC McCarthy
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 If there isn't a new manager in place by the weekend, it will be interesting to see who gets picked and in what positions. Will they follow what Ince has done previously by playing people out of position or will we actually see what they really thought.
Hughesy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 ----------------Robbo----------------- Simpson----Samba----Zurab----Ollson ---------------Vogel/ Axe------------- -----Dunn ----Tugay----Pedersen--- ---------McCarthy----Roberts--------
Bobby G Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 -------------Robbo-------------- Emo-------Samba---------Zurab--------Warnock -------Vogel-----Tugay------MGP -------------Dunn------------------- ----------Roberts------Roque
Plastic Head Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The team is irrelevant ....it's the physical and tactical preparation that matters. If Laurel and Hardy are still in charge were doomed.
Majiball Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Sorry Bobby and Hughes, Vogels not ready to start a game no way after 5 min all season. ----------------Robbo--------------- Ooijer-----Nelsen----Samba---Warnock Emerton--Tugay------MGP----Olsson ------------Benni------RSC------------ Yes I've done an Ince but MGP has done nothing out wide, I see a few similarities between Barry and MGP when they where both wingers I'd like to see how MGP gets on in the middle. He's got the engine, defensive minded great strike. We have to try something with him. Also after watching him saturday he plays in the middle anyway. Vogels not fit, Andrews not for me and Emertons needed out wide and before you ask Aaron who? Solid at the back (gulp) Well its going to be a fight and so I want old heads, Simpson and Olsson will get battered against stoke. Emerton on the right, who else. Olsson on the left, we are inept on this side, Ollsson did well playing here last year in the reserves. Benni and RSC as it should have been on Saturday. Zurab's the only defender the rest are all attack minded I would be going for it on Saturday, we need at least a point (it should be a win). A traditional 433 if we're chasing. Subs: Vogel - Tugay Derb's - Benni/RSC Villa - MGP/Ollsson Bunn Zurab (get fit) Judge Treacy
brfcs5359 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Let's start with players who shouldn't pull the shirt on (in their normal position); Roberts, Nelsen, Samba, Warnock, Treacy, Pederson, Derbyshire. Robinson Simpson-Ouijar (capt?)-Kinish-Ollson Dunn-Warnock-Emerton (capt) -Villenueva RSC-Benni
Pugg Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I also heard Zurab won't be fit and i'm presuming Dunn is fit to start. Robinson Emo-Nelsen-Samba-Warnock (used to playing together last season, so might slot back into decent defending) Grella (or Vogel, depending who is hungrier/fitter) Dunn-Pedersen Villa (is he still here/alive/fit) Roberts-Benni (apparently enjoy playing together, might get them motivated and combining well).
Brfcrule1 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 right for me I would go for: Robinson Simpson Samba Nelson Warnolk Emo Dunn Vogel King Carlos Roberts McCarthy Subs: Brown,Treacy,Derbs,Ooijer,Tugay,Zurab,Pederson but would only bring on Pederson if one of the strikers gets injured and stick him up top I know this line up will cause a few eyebrows with regards to RSC not being in the line-up but would rather give him a rest and get this back injury if true sorted if we continue playing him it will probably get worse and we do have other strikers who could do a job and are probably more hungrier but let's hope as they say a new boss is in place by saturday.
joey_big_nose Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I would be happy with: ---------------------Cruz --Pedersen-------Carlos-----------Dunn -------------Grella-------Vogel Warnock---Ooijer----Samba----Emerton --------------------Robinson Subs: Bunn, Nelsen, Zurab, Tugay, Andrews, Derbyshire, Roberts I think that will give us a lot more attacking options - Warnock and Emerton can get forward, Grella and Vogel can protect the back four and retain the ball, Pedersen and Carlos and Dunn can support the front man. If Grella isn't fit or Vogel still not doing it in training then Tugay to take one of their places. We need Cruz to have a performance otherwise we are toothless as we need someone to hold up the ball.
Pugg Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Hmm I think you have just changed my mind Joey. I like the look of that team.
farhanology Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 since Ince's old guard is presumably taking reins for this game: im going for an ultradefensive team but with a flair and finishing (as to not squandering the possible sporadic chances) Rob Ooijer-Nelsen-Samba Emerton Axe/Vogel Warnock Tugay Carlos/MGP McCarthy - Santa 3-5-2, Warnock needs to be in top gear, just a one-off lineup to ensure we do not dissapoint at home. (Warnock and Emerton as fullbacks)
Hughesy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The new man in charge should get it quite good really. He will have Dunn, Vogel & Grella all back to fitness very soon. He then has Emerton, Ollson & Roque who have just got over their injuries too.
The Harwood Yankee Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 Just read thru this thread and all the various permutations. Even with our relatively small squad there's decisions to be made in just about every position, except the keeper. Big Sam will have his work cut out in a way he wouldnt have had he taken over at the start of the season. If I was him I'd go right back to the formation and selections left by Hughes: Robinson Ooijer or Simpson; Samba; Nelsen; Warnock Emerton; Tugay; Dunn; Pedersen McCarthy; Santa Cruz That said, there are arguments for Grella and/or Vogel to start in the middle, depending on whether Dunn is fit enough to last 90 mins, and whether we'd rather give Tugay the first 70 mins or the last 20. What's glaring is that few people think Ince signings Andrews, Villanueva & Fowler have much of a role to play for us in the long term. Interesting...
SerulRaze Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I'd probably say: ...............Brown........................... .................................................... .Emo...Samba..Nelsen...Warnock. .................................................... .MGP...Dunn....Grella...Villanueva ................................................... ..............RSC.............................. .................|................................ .................v........Derbs.............. i think that line up gives us definitely the best attacking options. if MGP's right foot is as decent as they say it is, maybe putting him on the right wing might be a good idea.
