I always thought we passed up a good opportunity when we opted out of signing Pongolle on a permanent basis, especially for the asking price and with Bellamy leaving shortly after. He looked a very promising player.

With regards to the Stephen Warnock situation,

His response was...

'I am very happy where I am, I will not be moving anywhere this season, especially not back there!!!'

I think that is pretty clear... unless he is pushed, he doesn't want to go... Very much deserved player of the season, he has been fantastic & everytime there has been speculation, he has quite rightly quashed it, again showed lastnight to my mate!!!

Was it just me or did Pongolle not look completely out of his depth in the Premiership?

The pace and physical side of the game was just to much for him from what I recall. He went to Spain and was a real hit in his first season where you get 5 minutes to think about which pass you’ll be making next.

But a Premiership player???

Maybe wages was the issue, especially if McCarthy was already being lined up at that time. Not sure if Pongolle would've made the impact as Benni did that season.

No Rovers transfer news this morning, but the interesting piece is:

I'd like to think we'd take a look, Benitez is quality and would be the perfect replacement for Cruz if he leaves...

In reply to Philip's post, there is that to it, but Flo certainly whizzed up and down the wing, I felt he had something to offer there and could develop. Oh well, we will never know now.

Aguero most definitely... Just looked at Diego Forlan's goal ratio for Atletico this season, 35 goals in 45 appearances

The seaon when we had Pongolle and Bellamy upfront, we played the best football ive seen us play for many years. The movement and pace upfront was amazing. Neither were 20 goal a season players but the amount of chances they created for each other and the team meant goals were coming from everywhere, not just relying on one strikers like we do at the moment. Thinking about it the squad that finished this season would get battered by the team of 2 or 3 years ago

Aguero most definitely... Just looked at Diego Forlan's goal ratio for Atletico this season, 35 goals in 45 appearances

He won the Golden Shoe this year with 32 league goals, miles ahead of anyone in the Premier League. Oddly enough I believe Marc Janko came second.

That squad would have finished 5th this year in the league.

I'm going with Scott McDonald or Nacho Novo, assuming whoever said that the player in question has scored goals just not in the Premier League is correct.
