Ozz Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 They should not be playing at all today, but I think there are some refund issues which will be minimised if a certain amount of overs get played in the day. Cash is king these days with the ECB, witness the Taffs getting the First test.

Scotty Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Haddin's broke his finger and had to be replaced by someone who sounds like an exotic bird or summat. Not going well for the Aussies this series so far.
AussieinUk Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Ok, I understand Hughes for Watson (in a way). It seems that the selectors have woken up to the fact that Hughes has been sussed against the short ball. If Watson plays well in this position, it could really open up his future chances as a test regular Haddin breaking his hand is a big blow for Aust.. The selection of Manou smells of the McGain scenario. Again, Stuey Clark is not included. This the point where Phil Jaques would step in to his natural role as a very solid opener (very good test record)
SouthAussieRover Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 There's a hint of panic I think in the decision to drop Hughes. OK, he's not been brilliant and has a few issues to overcome, but he's young and looks promising. Who's going to open now? The Guardian seem to think Watson will - which, if true, is just a huge gamble on the Aussies part. As an England fan I'm quite happy though. A Leftwinger moment I'd never have predicted Watson doing so well at the top of the order in a Test.
jim mk2 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Poor bowling performance by England and unfortunately by the two Lancashire players in particular ; Anderson bowled too full and wide and Flintoff bowled too short. Stupid comments by Strauss before the game too.
Nate Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Stupid comments by Strauss before the game too. What did he say?
SouthAussieRover Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 What did he say? http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...75-2722,00.html ???
Nate Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Whilst I don't disagree with the comments, he should of kept it in-house!
Scotty Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 A Leftwinger moment I'd never have predicted Watson doing so well at the top of the order in a Test. No, I stand by it. Watson played very well yesterday, and deserves credit for that, but I still think he's under a lot of pressure and time will tell if he can take it. One swallow doesn't make a summer. The dropping of Hughes was a very unAustralian thing to do and a bit strange - like I said, a touch of panic I think. And I don't see what was wrong with Strauss's comments - he's just telling the truth. On the evidence of this series so far neither side has much of an aura about them.
modes98 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Brilliant start. Looks a different pitch, something in there for the bowlers today.
DeadlyDirk Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Bye Ricky!!!!!! Looks like he's chewing a wasp again Come on England!
Guest Kamy100 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Onions making the Aussie eyes water. I'll get my coat....
DeadlyDirk Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The ball moves late....... not as late as Rudi's finger!!
DeadlyDirk Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Lot of swing out there, won't be easy to bat when we get in if the Aussies start swining it . Oooh as I'm typing it Johnson's been done completley by a swinging beauty, first ball. Wooooo Swing when you're winning Looks like it was going over the top, but no shot played, looked out at first glance, you're always at risk when you don't play a shot and the line is on middle stump. Shame Jimmy didn't pick up his hat trick, double wicket maiden is decent though.
jim mk2 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 "I cannot believe that England are serious about picking Graham Onions ahead of Stephen Harmison," said Shane Warne. "Australia will just smash Onions around the park." Thank you for the insight. This match could be over in 3 days. Problem is, I don't have any faith in England's batting so either side could win it !
T4E Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Problem is, I don't have any faith in England's batting so either side could win it ! Pretty streaky so far. Serious questions need asking about Cook.
jim mk2 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Bell out plumb leg-before but not given; umpires are asking to be made redundant.
DeadlyDirk Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Bell out plumb leg-before but not given; umpires are asking to be made redundant. Shocking decision, huge bit of luck for Belly. And now were off for bad light, probably the end of the day's play.
