Anything over 20,000 was a big thing for us regulars back then. From memory, we used to get big gates for the Burnley games (Xmas and Easter) in the old Second Division.[/i] Part 2 Here`s the top 20 attendances at Ewood during the 80s & early 90s...... v Aston Villa (16/2/80).............29,468 (FACup rd5) v Sheff Weds (22/4/80)............26,130 (div3) v Man Utd (15/2/85).................22,692 (FACup rd5) v Man City (2/3/85)..................22,137 (div2) v Liverpool (8/1/83)..................21,966 (FACup rd3) v Coventry City (26/1/80).........20,785 (FACup rd4) v Nottingham Forest (29/8/79)...20,458 (League Cup rd2) v Leeds (26/12/84)..................20,150 (div2) v Derby County (10/5/92)..........19,677 (div2 play-off) v Newcastle (11/2/92)..............19,511 (div2).....speedie hatrick ................................................................................................ v Sheff Weds (14/3/81)............19,222 (div2) v Newcastle (20/4/84)..............19,199 (div2) v Liverpool (5/1/91).................18,524 (FACup rd3)....the ballgirl game v Man City (21/1/84)................18,201 (div2) v Sheff Utd (7/4/80)................18,140 (div3) v Leicester City (18/4/92).........18,075 (div2) v Preston (26/12/80)................17,726 (div2) v Aston Villa (20/2/88)..............17,356 (div2) v Man City (15/4/89)................16,927 (div2) v Chelsea (15/5/88)..................16,598 (div1&2 play-offs) .......please discuss

Just shows how far we've come in what we expect our attendancies to be these days.
CAPT KAYOS Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I remember chelsea taking the blackburn end twice in the 80's, was only a kid watchin from riverside upper but remember it wasnt the play off game it was early / mid 80's. Definitely not the play offs far earlier than - not sure about them taking the BB End but they had a go they ran through the Riverside climbing where it used to meet BB End - from memory it was one of those surges then everybody running back then happening again. Play offs was when they had that garish illuminating fluorescent green strip and Kerry Dixon stole the show toatlly outplayed us Leeds (26/12/84)..................20,150 (div2) - I am sure this is when some of the Leeds fans turned up in a pantomine horse costume - have said it before but nobody else seems to remember this v Man City (2/3/85)..................22,137 (div2) - kicked off big style on Blackburn Boulevard - when the City Guvnors came to town v Derby County (10/5/92)..........19,677 (div2 play-off) - just think all the Rovers fans knew we would turn this around even after going 2 nil down v Leicester City (18/4/92).........18,075 (div2) - is the one when they beat us and the baldy bunleh reject scored? v Aston Villa (20/2/88)..............17,356 (div2) - felt as packed more than I have ever known it on the BB End
Ray-Von Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 v Leicester City (18/4/92).........18,075 (div2) - is the one when they beat us and the baldy bunleh reject scored? Quite right - "Rooster" Russell - a one season wonder if there ever was one. Horrendous mis-kick by Bobby Mimms in front of loads of Leicester fans in the Darwen End. At least we had the last laugh at Wembley.

Play offs was when they had that garish illuminating fluorescent green strip and Kerry Dixon stole the show toatlly outplayed us. THAT's THE ONE Leeds (26/12/84)..................20,150 (div2) - I am sure this is when some of the Leeds fans turned up in a pantomine horse costume - have said it before but nobody else seems to remember this. WAS THERE AND I REMEMBER IT CANTERING AROUND AT HALF TIME v Man City (2/3/85)..................22,137 (div2) - kicked off big style on Blackburn Boulevard - when the City Guvnors came to town. LT WENT INTO MELTDOWN CONDEMNING THE HOOLIGANISM. WASN'T THERE A RUNNING FIGHT IN MARKS & SPARKS AND AINSWORTH STREET GOT BLOCKED FOR A WHILE? v Derby County (10/5/92)..........19,677 (div2 play-off) - just think all the Rovers fans knew we would turn this around even after going 2 nil down. THE ONLY NE OF THESE I WASN'T AT BUT LISTENING TO THE ROVERS COME BACK MADE THE DRIVE FROM READING TO CHICHESTER THE BEST EVER! v Leicester City (18/4/92).........18,075 (div2) - is the one when they beat us and the baldy bunleh reject scored? YES- I WAS IN THE RIVERSIDE AND SUDDENLY FOUND MYSELF SURROUNDED BY CELEBRATING LEICESTER FANS. MADE THE PLAY-OFF FINAL EVEN SWEETER! v Aston Villa (20/2/88)..............17,356 (div2) - felt as packed more than I have ever known it on the BB End. I WAS IN THE BLACKBURN ENCLOSURE AND THAT WAS EXTREMELY TIGHT> MADE MORE BEARABLE BY THE LOVELY RED HEAD PRESSED UP AGAINST ME.
Ozz Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 There was a lot of trouble at and after the Man City game 1985, more reports here. Got chased up Bolton Road and dived into Ewood WMC for safety.

Not sure about M & S but it was free for all amongst the bus shelters and not many police about at first. I know about another M&S situ with Chelski fans though after we had both played away somewhere (Brighton/Southampton?) Obviously there have been other occasions on matchdays but not seen anything as bad as that when Rovers have played at home. Was only 15 at the time but remember it clearly
brfcs5359 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Back then several thousand £s gate money disappeared with cash in pocket/people climbing over. Bradford one christmas ay home was full. Secondly and on a similar point, no Burnley yet every game was sold out.

Secondly and on a similar point, no Burnley yet every game was sold out. Apart from the pre season games i think rovers only played bumley 1 season in the 80's and after the aggro of the game at turf moor on the boxing day the following game was all ticket at ewood which didnt go down well in them days lol, and that kept the crowd around 14k i think.

I know about another M&S situ with Chelski fans though after we had both played away somewhere (Brighton/Southampton?) I seem to recall a mass brawl in Debenhams in the late 80's, with possibly Man City. Truly a strange sight seeing women’s underwear and men’s suits flying in the air as 40 or so lads try to knock seven bells out of each other. Think one lad on here made the mistake of wearing his favorite white Lacoste polo shirt that day, and got a good whack in the nose, shirt ruined
