Fylde Coast Fan Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 A new goalie would be nice Robinson's not the best keeper in the world but he's far from the worst in the division. A more attentive, better organised back four would improve our defensive record, we'd need to spend £20m+ on a keeper who could keep a significant number of the goals we've conceded out.

mellison24 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Alladyce's tactics are the way there are because we have no quality in our side to play any other way. Ince in my opinion took us down here, Alladyce is doing the best he can with players who don't cut it. We can't attract anyone decent to the club anymore. It's gonna be another struggle. Players like Gudjohnsson ain't going to come to us, only players in league 2 in Kuwait or some joke of a leauge would come to us at the moment, especially on the pitance we'd pay them (I really hope Gudjohnsson comes though ) Wrong. When we attack, and play it on the ground (under Allardyce at least) we play well. Yet he refuses to change tactics, in order that we do this more often.

Yet he refuses to change tactics, in order that we do this more often. With the mugs we have playing for us I think he's doing an alright job. If we got rid of him we'd go down, takes a while to get the team to where he wants it. Poor geeza is getting mugged off when we get done 4-1 away to Man City, one of the best teams in the league. He ain't got no money to work with either so he ain't going to get the stars he'd like in. I don't see what more you people can expect?
Jim Royle Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 why would we need new players all we need BFS to do is get: his goalkeeper to keep goal rather better than he has been doing his defenders to defend better his midfielders to both defend and attack better and his strikers to, er strike better That's it, job done! oh and if you can't manage that BFS then you'd better feck off and be quick about it Calling mr Hughes....yes we do love the welsh and we hold no grudges whatsoever please answer our SOS

And get 3 men attacking (2 strikers with Dunn in the hole OR Dunn and Pedersen behind a lone striker). We have nothing to lose with the way we are playing right now so attack. ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 A new goalie would be nice I think we all have short memories - though I would never place Robinson up there with Friedel - he too made some howling mistakes (remember Birmingham away ?). Goalies are by nature of their position unfortunate - as any mistake more often than not leads to a goal. There are far weaker parts of the team than Robinson - so I think we should give the guy some slack - he hasn't had a bad season overall - not exceptional, but solid (the odd mistake being matched by unbelievable saves)
sambo Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Apart from Birmingham - what other howlers has Friedel done? I can't think of any

Yeh - attack, attack against one of the best and fastest counter attacking teams in the country - yeh that would have worked. There has to be a balance - which is somewhere between attack, attack, attack and Sam negative tactics. Apart from Birmingham - what other howlers has Friedel done? I can't think of any I can think of numerous matches where he missed punches etc. No goalie is infallible - just some are luckier when they make mistakes.

I don't mean 0-0-11.
den Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I think we all have short memories - though I would never place Robinson up there with Friedel - he too made some howling mistakes (remember Birmingham away ?). Robinson has made more mistakes this season than Brad did in his whole career here.
mellison24 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Robinson has made more mistakes this season than Brad did in his whole career here. He's no Friedel, but he is DECENT. there are far more pressing matters in other positions. Robbo is by no means our worst performer. ALL problems stem from midfield. The midfield doesn't attack competantly, nor does it protect the back 4. that needs sorting before anyone contemplates selling a keeper who can only get better and is only 29/30.

How naieve is that, assuming that you actually believe it? Why can he only get better - why can't he get worse? After all, he has got worse over the years

After all, he has got worse over the years Okay I worded the last bit badly. He OUGHT to get better as keepers generally peak in there early-to-mid 30's. My point about the midfield is true. Everybody has been ranting about it ever since we sold Robbie Savage! We need a midfield that has 4 CM options that can pass at least decently, play consistently, tackle fairly well and be fit. We have all those in bits, but no combination of any of those in any of our midfielders. the closest we get is Grella (who can tackle and pass but isn't fit) and N'Zonzi (who is fit and can pass, but doesn't tackle). We need a better midfield. Right wing is another problem position, although Hoilett MAY yet change that. the same can be said of Olsson on the left wing, judging by his 2 performances there (last night and against everton last season when he scored).

Glad you corrected yourself on the first point Mellison. Now then - your second point needs you to correct it as well. All our problems don't stem from midfield. The goalkeeper is a problem, unless you don't consider letting shots past that should be saved, a problem. The lack of quality all over the park, coupled with having strikers who can't score goals even when they do get opportunities - and a manager who can't see that playing one up front continually is another problem. Yeah I'm in a bad mood after last night, so get things right first time please.
mellison24 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I don't give a ###### how bad a mood you are in. It doesn't mean my opinion will change. There are more pressing matters than the goalkeeper. He is very decent but no more than that. I think he would perform better if he had less to do. The defence is doing OKAY but would be better if the midfield protected it more proficiently. Want me to re-word but essentially say the same thing any more times than I have for the benefit of your grumpiness?
den Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I think he would perform better if he had less to do. The most difficult thing for a keeper is to maintain concentration when they are having a quiet day. Thought everyone knew that? BTW, I was joking about the bad mood.
S15 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I bet if you shut up for a but it'd help his grumpiness.
mellison24 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I meant less for him to do, while the defence and midfield do their defensive jobs (which they arent doing). I think he's a good keeper and hopefully will get better. HOWEVER, I wouldn't be completely against giving Brown a go, if it would get Robbo playing for his place.

Want me to re-word but essentially say the same thing any more times than I have for the benefit of your grumpiness? The midfield isn't the only problem, but if we got that right it would play a huge part in getting us on the right track. The defence was woefully exposed and made to look worse than it was last night by the gaps in midfield, and as for our striker(s) not taking their chances, well I can't honestly remember them getting that many to miss. Kalinic was begging for the early ball again last night and getting nothing, kind of reminded me of when we first signed Andy Cole. A better goalkeeper would have seen the game finish 3-1 last night, instead of 4-1. Midfield is the absolute priority for me.
ffan Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 According to Gary Jacobs on his live window chat thing "Does Stoke City have a chance at signing Ruud? by Androo at 1/12/2010 1:32:53 PM1:32 PM I'd be surprised - and his wages are large. So Real may have to pay some. Ruud to Blackburn would seem more realistic by Gary Jacob at 1/12/2010 1:33:26 PM1:33 PM" And also he says Rovers would like to sign Kenwyne Jones but he is too expensive. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article6983749.ece
