"...Villa will receive a 17.5million fee plus right back Steve Finnan in exchange for a midfielder who will fulfil his wish to play in the Champions League this season after all...To find the money, Liverpool needed to provide the bank with a guarantee that funds to cover the move will be raised during the remainder of the close season..."

From Sportsmail.

Not often you hear of a club needing to provide a bank with a credit note.

Any wonder that Randy Lerner (a very successful banking entrepreneur) simply told MoN to cancel the deal?

Lpool's billy big time efforts to sign Barry, and Barry's own disparaging comments about MoN and Villa might just have tweaked a lions tail. Maybe the chance for revenge and to humiliate Benitez, Lpool, Hicks, Gillete, Gareth Barry and all was the reason for Lerner instructing MoN to 'give way' on the Barry issue last week just after Lpool had signed Keane. No doubt Lerner knew that Lpool could not finance BOTH Barry and Keane and just wanted to embarrass the club and create a stand off with Benitez and his bosses.

Was reading something that shows they've spent more over the past 3 years than United.

Heck, Mascareno and Torres were about 40-50 million combined (I think Masch was 19 and Torres 24, but not positive).

To me the sequence of events is the same as when Benitez left Valencia

Whinging about money, whinging about transfers, the sooner he is gone the better for the PL

It shows how weak the ownership is that they haven't simply fired him already.
