Pedderz0912 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I couldn't agree more - 12 million euros for a left back is unthinkable when we can't come up with 4million for a striker (Polish guy) I think we will spend between 3-6 million and get a freebie ie Ledley would be good - But only 1 major signing in my opinion and 2lower key bargains. Just hope Sam gets the right man - Have faith
Boz Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Remember not to get carried away with headline grapping transfer fees. It's the overall package, that the fan is seldom privy to the full details, which is the telling factor.
niggit Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Everyone goes on about Ledley, but there is one thing, he wont be free.
brian_gallagher85 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I couldn't agree more - 12 million euros for a left back is unthinkable when we can't come up with 4million for a striker (Polish guy) It's the in thing these days to blow all of your budget (and then some) on a wing back when you clearly need to strengthen elsewhere...just ask Rafa
Commondore Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Taddei. Jorge Martinez. Aleksandar Lukovic. Marco Cassetti. Cannot agree new contracts with their clubs and maybe leaving on a Bosman come end of season, they are after £35,000-£40,000 a-week to come to England. Would any interest your manager?. Taddei is a prime candidate if Gamst Pedersen goes, Martinez and Cassetti plays in positions were our coverage is excellent. Don't know about Lukovic, who is he? yes,he's scored 8 goals in 25 league games. Betis were asking £10 million for him even after they were relegated. So he never got his move. Betis are struggling too, doubt they'll come back up. Just heard Gojko Kacar available for around £4.5 million after Hertha's relegation.Patrick Ebert £2.5 Million.Arne Friedrich £3 million.Steve von Bergen will leave on a free. Raffael,Adrian Ramos and Fabian Lustenberger can leave too. Lots of interesting names in that relegated Hertha squad. I can however see there being a bidding war for several of those players, not really Allardyce's style.
Hughesy Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Everyone goes on about Ledley, but there is one thing, he wont be free. No he won't but he won't be too expensive either.. It would go to a tribunal .
Veevs Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Lots of interesting names in that relegated Hertha squad. I can however see there being a bidding war for several of those players, not really Allardyce's style. Yeah wonder if Basturk knows any of them?
tcj_jones Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Everyone goes on about Ledley, but there is one thing, he wont be free. Was just gonna point that out. However, that doesn't necessarily mean we shouldn't go for him. I'd be interested to hear an estimate on the figure a tribunal would come to for a player of his age / calibre.
BPF Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 We're all talking about adding this shyte player, that shyte player..dindane, piqionne...all this rubbish...I say, sell Jones for £10m, sell chimbonda, jacombson etc and invest in some real quality. We're not far away from being a europa league tem..look at fulham...they've spent a few bob more on Zamora/Duff and its paid off...I'd like us to go for Robbie Keane. Yeah! Damn Right! Sell 90% of the squad and give Man U close to what they paid for Berbatov. Then we truly can play long ball with only two players - Robbo and Berba!
andyroversmad Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Everyone keeps going on about ledley but is he even any good ? I've only seen him play 1 or 2 times but I've seen nothing from him to suggest he's good enough.
Ricky Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I'm pretty sure that Cardiff turned down a £5m+ bid for Ledley either last season or the season before. I guess the tribunal would take that into account when setting the compensation level. I reckon it could be quite a high fee set.
herbergeehh Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Don't know if it's been mentioned; Sunderland wants to sign Stephen Ireland (The People). Ideal partner for N'Zonzi in midfield, and only 23 years old.
bluebruce Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Don't know if it's been mentioned; Sunderland wants to sign Stephen Ireland (The People). Ideal partner for N'Zonzi in midfield, and only 23 years old. Ideal partner, yes. Realistic partner, no. Surely far beyond us- he was exceptional for City last season and most of this, keeping huge names on the bench. I'd be astonished (and worried) if Sunderland could pull it off either. We've no chance, but I'll say this- I'd happily blow our budget and sign only him this summer if it were possible.
Bazrakats Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 didnt ireland have alot of health problems this year. He would definatly need a good medical if we could get him. Hoep we do though fantastic player much better than O'hara.
Hughesy Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Was just gonna point that out. However, that doesn't necessarily mean we shouldn't go for him. I'd be interested to hear an estimate on the figure a tribunal would come to for a player of his age / calibre. Well City wanted £10m compo for Sturridge (who had prem experience) - they ended up with just £3.5m..(possibly rising to £7m dependant on success & goals)...so that should be a good indication that you dont get market value at tribunal. He was also 3 years younger, so had much longer to grow his potential I'm pretty sure that Cardiff turned down a £5m+ bid for Ledley either last season or the season before. I guess the tribunal would take that into account when setting the compensation level. I reckon it could be quite a high fee set. Id be SHOCKED if it was more than £3m given past tribunal prices. Don't know if it's been mentioned; Sunderland wants to sign Stephen Ireland (The People). Ideal partner for N'Zonzi in midfield, and only 23 years old. Im with Bluebruce - id happily blow our entire summer budget on him, but the fact is he will have far bigger fish to fry - United have been tracking him for ages, Liverpool are also reportedly monitoring him & if they both fail then the likes of Sunderland will go and offer him 70k a week. No chance im afraid!! didnt ireland have alot of health problems this year. He would definatly need a good medical if we could get him. Hoep we do though fantastic player much better than O'hara. Are you not thinking Michael Johnson the alcopop??
niggit Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Even so, say it's 2.5mill, that's pretty much our budget, before a striker.
LeChuck Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Bouma released on a free at Villa, could be a decent option if we want to add a proper left back to the team.
The Rover of Finland Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Bouma released on a free at Villa, could be a decent option if we want to add a proper left back to the team. Great shout!
67splitscreen Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Brouma used to be good, why would they release him, no doubt a medical will answer that one.
Darwen Rover Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Right been thinking, with our embarrasment of riches at CB... Nelson / Givet / Samba / Jones Would it be worth selling... say Samba if we got £15m an re invested in other areas of the team i.e. quality midfielder as well as a proven striker?? We would then have Jones / Givet at CB and Nelson as back up, i know its a risky strategy....
Mozzer Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 sell our best central defender ? that would be sensible wouldnt it :/ yes we need a quality central midfielder but maybe getting rid of players like diouf, chimbonda, andrews with their combined fees and transfers we could get someone like jamie o'hara - with the way allardyce found nzonzi maybe he couldnt get another one like that .. id personally like us to sign a left back , right winger, central midfielder and a striker ..
JamieUK Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 id personally like us to sign a left back , right winger, central midfielder and a striker .. Why does it seem this has been the same shopping list for the last few seasons?! Hopefully we can get something at Villa and move up to 10th adding another £2m or so to the projected transfer budget.
vintageadidas Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Get rid of: Pascal - SA signing Diouf - SA signing Jacobsen - SA signing Kalanic - isnt good enough - SA signing Di Santo - not good enough - SA signing Players who made real strides this season: Jones - already here Olsson - already here Sam's good signings: N'Zonzi Givet Salgado Maybe Sam's take on a player isnt that good. I think with the limited budget we have he has to do some serious scouting this summer, we cannot waste any of this limited spend we have.
