neekoy Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Spain and the Swiss to walk it in. Gutted we won't get to see Carlos Villanueva on the world stage just see how good he could have been.
philipl Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Hmm, Spain have just walloped Poland 6-0. The only bet against Sppain to win this World Cup is the one they peaked too soon and there is a Jose Mourinho somewhere amongst the other managers. Not in this Group there isn't though. Switzerland v Chile is the decider here and I think that is too close to call between two rather similar sides.
tcj_jones Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 The Spanish could rest half their team and still walk this group, winning every game 3-0. They're going to be an absolute joy to watch.
philipl Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Spain must be watching the rest of this competition and fancying it more and more thus far. Remains to be seen whether Germany simply caught an ageing slowing Australia as they all struggle for form and fitness playing without a forward to speak of.
philipl Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Lets see what Spain make of vuvuzuelas and rubbish footballs!
67splitscreen Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Chile 1 up at HT, look good on the attack, could be a surprise in store for Spain, ? is, can they defend under the sort of pressure Spain's MF will put them under.
neekoy Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Chile had a good qualifying campaign, I don; think they will scare Spain but they have enough quality to go through to the next round above the Swiss. One of the better games so far
Eddie Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Lets see what Spain make of vuvuzuelas and rubbish footballs! Nearly 30 minutes gone and they don't look good at all. No chance of winning the world cup. No chance at all! I take that back, their diving looks excellent. Iniesta twice in two minutes, very impressive stuff.
Commondore Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 The Swiss are kicking Spain all over the field, probably the right way to go for them.
Eddie Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Can't blame them for it, although I don't think they've been particularly dirty. They aren't a very good side, so it isn't as if they'll be able to trouble Spain too much going forward.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Pretty boring game so far in my opinion. Obviously we have to judge Spain on their amazing run of form which began a few years ago rather than on this performance but if they plan on winning this world cup then they have to learn to break teams down because a lot more teams will be more defensive and look to counter against them. Would like to see Torres come on in the 2nd half.
Eddie Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I think we'll see virtually all of the bigger teams struggle a bit against sides who set their stalls out to defend. The general standard of World Cup football is better and the gap between sides is smaller, so it makes it tougher.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 What a cock up by the Spanish defence.
Grabbi Graeme Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 OOPS The Swiss 1-0 against Spain, that wasn't in the script was it.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Hopefully now Spain are chasing the game they'll take a few more risks in the final 3rd. They've had a lot of possession but haven't done anything with it. Unless they sort themselves out, this could end up being the shock of the tournament.
BuckyRover Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I think I prefer "kick & rush" football to losing to the Swiss. This would be hilarious and would really be a boost to England (and any other team that fancies their chances of winning the cup).
Eddie Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Rovermatt, Neekoy et al must be choking on their sangria.
Eddie Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Great shame that didn't go in. More terrible defending.
tcj_jones Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Yet another boring match. Spain shouldn't have started with two sitting midfielders against a side that were only ever going to put everyone behind the ball. They desperately needed width and somebody up top to help Villa. Now that Torres and Navas are on, Spain look far, far more threatening.
Backroom Tom Posted June 16, 2010 Backroom Posted June 16, 2010 This second half has been brilliant, Alonso was so unlucky not to score and then so was the Swiss guy
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Since Spain went a goal down, it's actually made the game very interesting and exciting. Switzerland have 10 minutes to hold out but they cannot afford to sit back and let Spain take shot after shot otherwise they'll get punished. Come on Switzerland!!!!!!!!! Hop Suisse!!!!!!!!!!!! (i saw it in a flag so apologies if it's naughty) This reminds me of the England v Argentina match from 2002 when they were trying to batter down the solid English defence.
