lraC Posted yesterday at 07:40 Posted yesterday at 07:40 (edited) The third pre- season friendly sees us visit the quaint Pinatar Arena in the Murcia region of Spain with a 7.00PM kick off, local time 6.00pm UK time. The stadium itself is a a 3,000 seater arena, which is part of the larger Pinatar Arena football centre, which includes a sports club, hotel, training facilities and other amenities. It is the first time I remember Rovers playing a match in Spain, either a friendly or otherwise, although my memory is not what it was, so maybe we have played in Spain before, in my lifetime. The match is also part of a two game tour, as we are due to take on La Liga bound Elche CF on Friday 25/07/25 also at 7.00pm local time. The match should provide some more match fitness to most of the squad, as I suspect changes will be a plenty as the temperatures in the area just now are pretty high. For those travelling there are a few bars in the area and I can recommend the corner music tavern a stones throw from the stadium, where you will find a nice selection of drinks and food. I know nothing at all about the opposition, so perhaps those with any knowledge of Qatar SC can give us some idea of the quality of the opposition and what Rovers will be up against and if this will be a stiff test or not. MarkBRFC Posted yesterday at 07:48 Posted yesterday at 07:48 Only other time I remember Rovers playing in Spain was a mid season friendly against Barcelona in 94-95. I imagine we will go with our "second 11" to start this game, saving our stronger team to start against Elche, but imagine most will probably come off the bench in both games due to the heat. Pears/Michelski Alebiousu Atcheson McLoughlin Pickering Mullarkey-Matthews Buckley Montgomery Karbo Tyjon Gueye Quote
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted yesterday at 08:04 Posted yesterday at 08:04 Even at 7-00 pm it’ll be hot. The village we spend time in has a summer inter bars football tournament and they don’t kick off until 9-00 pm. Quote
GHD Posted yesterday at 08:05 Posted yesterday at 08:05 Didn’t we once play in Spain in the 70’s, in an end of season thank you trip for the players? If memory serves me right, we played a team of waiters, so the club could legally claim tax relief on the cost Quote

I wonder if Tavares will be able to play in either. Quote
MarkBRFC Posted yesterday at 08:24 Posted yesterday at 08:24 (edited) Well apparantely he got injured in the first training session with balls, and that ruled him out for four weeks, which takes us to tomorrow. So maybe they could give him 10 or so off the bench in the second game? Edited yesterday at 08:25 by MarkBRFC Quote

The Spaniards thought I was loco. They go either at 6.00 or 7.00 in the morning or after 9.00 at night. I think I’ll have to go a bit later this year as I’m getting older. Quote
philipl Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago We beat Barcelona 3-2 in Reus with a Shearer hattrick. So is this the Qatar WC squad we are playing? https://www.rovers.co.uk/matches Gobsmacked- there is a GBP5.99 offer to watch both Qatar and Elche on Rovers TV! Quote

Here in Malta I am out for my morning walk by 6.30am and go for the evening walk at 7.30pm or later. Heat won't be so intense at 7pm CEST but will still be a shirt soaker for our players. In contrast, the Qatar players will be in their thermals as it is mid 40s and upwards there this time of the year. Quote

Its Rovers under Venkys, it would be far stranger if they followed normal business practices and did advertise it 😉 Edited 19 hours ago by KentExile Quote
philipl Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) Payment has just failed for the fifth time. Meantime I have made two other online payments from the same card without any problems. This is pathetic Rovers. No wonder they are far too ashamed to advertise it. Edited 18 hours ago by philipl Quote

andyh Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Interesting....I am having the same issue trying to use my credit card to buy the 25/26 pass which is now on offer. It's interesting to hear that PayPal may work, although that isn't a great option for me. Let's hope the Rovers can fix....some hope....... 2 Quote
