The Republic of Ireland midfielder made the discovery when scans were taken on his persistent problem. The verdict is that he will be sidelined for around five months. Reid had played in pain earlier in the season and has been missing for the past few games as Mark Hughes's medical team tried to get to the bottom of the trouble. Now the news is bad and Reid may be in traction for about six weeks before further checks are made to see if the injury has healed properly. Blackburn skipper Ryan Nelsen will be out until the new year after his major hamstring operation.
